I just popped in for some sandpaper and they are discontinuing a few shades. Reduced on the tin to £19.74 from £39.49 then had a sign saying 75% off marked price.
Selected colours. This was in Homebase Peterborough. Near the checkouts.

Not according to a blind test on Savvy Shoppers last week.
Experts agreed it was overpriced at £40, but agreed it beat Dulux and Crown.

no it isn't rubbish its very good paint with good coverage, but it is overpriced, I would take a colour sample and get it colour matched by Johnstones or dulux.
good price if you can get what you want

Worth it for a fiver definitely - I'd stock up if I had a Homebase near me  Saw it on Savvy Shoppers during the week too

Dulux and Crown are water-based paints, F&B is oil-based, so an entirely different product really! I would NEVER buy Dulux paint, unless it was their 'professional' paint similar to trade paint...

Crap paint!! Get colour want want them straight to b&q for colour match for half the price and better paint!! Boom. I've just saved u a boat loads of ££

F&B is water based. They stopped making off the shelf oil based paint a few years back.
The retail offerings from Dulux and Crown are very poor in comparison to their trade ranges.

I think you'll find F&B is water based like Dulux, Crown and Johnstones. F&B stopped making oil based paint years ago. Personally they do have some nice colours but is it worth what they charge for it........NO!

Johnstone's colour match all of the F&B range to the tee (they have them listed on their mixing systems). Works out much better if you are looking for a particular colour plus you get a choice of the excellent bases Johnstone's carry.

My good lady insists upon F&B paint because of a) the colours and b) the paint finish - do Johnstone's do something with a similar finish??

I also think F&B paint over priced. Had fault with both Dulux and F&B paint in past, Dulux compensated for labour costs but F&B wouldn't accept liability, compensate or apologise in any form!!!!

Yep , Farrow and Ball came out on top as the best paint to buy in cover age and opacity , but too expensive , so at the op price this should be hot.

So if you need to use two coats of Dulux and Crown to stop grinning and only one coat of Farrow and Ball it then works out at the same price. Approximately, that is.

Great if you get a tin for £5 but you will be kicking yourself a year down the line when your walls need touching up and it's gonna cost you £40+ for another tin! :smirk:

We paid £40 each for two tins of very nice colours for the boys room and it went on well with good coverage and dried to a perfect coat. You get what you pay for and the naysayers are the same people who would compare a Ford to a BMW.

more or less what I was going to say....it is good but actually harder to apply than other paint. We colour matched through Johnstones....

Don't buy it, in fact don't take it unless it's free, it's the most expensive but most rubbish paint you can buy! It has a nice colour spectrum but it's thinner than poster paint. Do yourself a favour and buy volspar from b and q, they'll match the colour and the paint is too notch!

I checked Homebase in York, asking two assistants and neither knew of the discount. The pots of paint were spotted at the exit (discounted) but I couldn't see any additional 75% off. The selection of colours was poor, else I would have snapped any white up in a blink of an eye. Voted hot.

I don't think they would be discontinuing white somehow.

i use johnstones to colour match all Farrow & Ball it really is just as good. dont forget these paint companies axzo nobel and PPG want this kind of business so it is in their interest to make it as near as possible to the original product

A few tins in Brecon for £19.75, but no 75% off. Also had no samples for the colours they had, so you had no idea on what you were actually buying. So I asked them to honour the 75%, but they said no. Assistant was very nice tho and she did ask the team leader who was too busy eating donuts (or whatever) to speak to me

It's amazing how many people like the colour choices that Farrow and Ball give us that other paint companies can't give us.

I have used their acrylic base matt and it worked really well. They do a range of other bases depending on what you want to achieve. Never used F&B so can't really comment on the "finish".
