I always find it weird how farmers are so badly done to, and work for scraps. Yet I have honestly never met a poor one lol, driving around in there range rovers and Bentleys, and living in houses the queen would be proud of

Lol farmers and bentleys. Yeah they have range rovers but there like 20 years old and the reason for that is they are better for climbing hills.
Farmers don't make a great living unless they can find a side line earner for there land like banger racing or moto cross.
Your eyes would jump out your eye socket if you saw the debts they carry with the banks. You have to keep expanding or get out of farming. It's only when they sell the land that they make big bucks but ofcourse farmers keep it in the family for generations.
To give u some idea of loans they must take out a combine harvester can be bought for up to a million pound so that the type of overheads they have with the banks.

Oh I didn't mean to stereotype, I can only go off what I have experienced! I used to deliver for a large bed company, for some reason we used to deliver to a lot of farms, probably's because I am based in Lancashire. They must of been taking out second mortgages on there 6 bedroom farm houses to afford the £3000 mattresses they were having delivered! If I knew they were so hard up I wouldn't of took the £20-£30 tips they were given to the 2 of us

The 'Farming Simulator 15 - Official Expansion (GOLD)' expansion pack is also on sale, is that worth it? What does it actually offer for the extra £8odd?

Gold expansion adds a new map and vehicles. For a new player it's probably not worth the extra cost unless you're sure you want it right away. Also it'll likely be cheaper in the future and at the current cost isn't amazing value compared to the base game

They do own the farm, the people I rent off, his grandad purchased the farm, it was handed down to his son and then to his. My friend will either hand it in to his 2 very young children if they want to farm or sell it. The farm itself is very old, our cottage is the oldest property here, built around 1550.
Many farmers round here are tenant farmers, some for private landowners, some on council owned farms - that should get some grief on here, councils owning farms!!

I doubt most could afford a new Land Rover, and if they could they would rather save money and buy a older one. Round here you can tell the people from towns and cities, they drive spotlessly clean 4x4's and usually very badly, scared to get to close to the hedgerows when someone struggles to pass them on a narrow lane. Can't possibly scratch it, and it's a nightmare if it gets dirty!

No the farm was in the family for 3 generations, most farmers haven't popped to the bank for a £3million mortgage. The cottage is kind of worthless, it can't be sold as its in the middle of a farm, they couldn't risk selling it and having complications in the future.
I know some wealthy 'farmers', they have had large investments made by outsiders in partnership so they could diversify, one sells bottled water, another is now a huge cheese producer, I wouldn't say either are farmers anymore though.

Most of the cost of a house is the land, the house in question has probably been there for hundreds of years and they probably DONT own the farm, you are assuming they own the farm, most are leased so it could easily be they lease the whole business then let the cottage out to help pay the lease.
Don't make assumptions you'll make an ass of yourself

What a stereotype you're confusing a farmer with a LANDOWNER the guys you're talking about own the land and lease it out to the guys who do the actual work for relative peanuts given the hours they work with no guaranteed return on the investment.
Most farmers drive round in clapped out **** landrovers not brand new ones, in fact i've never once seen a brand new land rover on a farm doing actual work

But they can still afford to own a cottage and rent it out.
I can't even afford to own a 2 bedroomed terraced house in the biggest slum in the UK! :disappointed:

Maybe in the Home Counties but down here in Devon most struggle to get by. I rent a cottage on a farm here and our rent is a large chunk of their income. Unless you have huge sums to invest in the latest tech like robotic dairies or diversification it's a difficult life, long hours 7 days a week. My friend got a couple of hours off Christmas Day, that was it. He's happy but I wouldn't trade lives. We get lovely fresh meat though and I know where it's come from!

I played this for a week, but getting up at 3am every morning got a bit tiring, plus for some reason I fell suicidal and I never earned enough money to live on. I'm hoping there's a patch so I can grow hemp for pharmaceuticals then it should all be worth it.

Cultivate, sow, fertilise, harvest and sell your goods. Then learn how to grow different crops, cut down trees, upgrade farming equipment etc.... Great game that seems to get you hooked with many hours of fun.
