In a savage world of man vs nature, are you the hunter or the hunted?
The creators of Left 4 Dead, Turtle Rock Studios, bring you EVOLVE, the next-generation of multiplayer shooters where four hunters face-off against a single, player-controlled monster.
Stalk your prey, execute your attack and prove you are the apex predator in adrenaline-pumping 4V1 matches.
GAME FEATURES
•4V1 - Grab three friends and hunt the monster or stalk the humans as the evolving beast. Whichever side you choose, you will have access to powerful weapons and abilities that deliver balanced, competitive gameplay.
•Hunt Together or Die Alone - Choose a hunter that fits your play style. Whether you play as the Trapper, Support, Assault, or Medic, every role is vital and teamwork is key in surviving an encounter with the monster.
•Beast of Prey - As the monster – the lone predator – you are the boss battle. Use savage abilities and an animalistic sense to wreak havoc, kill the humans and prove you are the dominant species.
•Savage Planet - Neither flora nor fauna are friendly on planet Shear. Fall victim to natural hazards or use them strategically against your prey.
•Character Customisation - Level up to unlock new upgrades, skins and perks for your favorite class: hunter or monster. Earn your infamy on the leaderboards and become the apex predator.

Avoid this game, just saving you from this terrible super micro transaction focused terrible game.

Bought for £5 for PS4. Made it most of the way through the tutorial, couldn't win the fight against the hunters. Just button bashed the four attack types at them with no noticeable damage - cornering them while ripping them to pieces and they still survive. Turned it off and forgot about it.
In short, don't bother.

Yeah, the tutorial was brutal. I played this at EGX before it was released and enjoyed the short match I played there enough to, rather foolishly, go out and buy the it on PS4 upon release. It was the first game in years I paid the full rrp for and it definitely wasn't worth the £45/50 asking price. All the dlc should have been included in the game from launch or at least made free to players.
Working together to successfully hunt and eventually trap and kill the monster is actually quite rewarding (assuming you can find people online to play it with). Saying that it's been almost a year since I last played it... IGN giving it a 9.0 is ludicrous and would suggest they played it for maybe half an hour in total before the excitement wore off.
i thought this game would have had a definitive edition by now with all the dlc... i guess not

The ultimate edition has both season passes, however the skins are not included.
I had a load of skins for some reason when I checked yesterday though and a different variation of the basic characters aswell.

She doesn't explain it as its a tactic rather than a mechanic, only the abilities and how to use them.
killing the medic first in any game has always seemed common sense to me, although I have been gaming for years so...

It makes me wonder why the tutorial didn't explain this game mechanic. Isn't that what they're for?
I suppose the the fast-paced blabber at the beginning explaining the gameplay set the tone...

Yet I killed them within 60 seconds?
Goes like this, down medic, down support, down trapper, down assault.
If you concentrate attacking hunters other than the medic you wont get far, medic down first then they cant heal, then the support because of the shield buffs.
Goliath is the first monster and is easier to kill than the rest, easier to track aswell.
Had a match against an elder kraken and it didn't go well whatsoever.

This game was fantastic whilst it had a player base. Made few friends through it.

It's a relatively poor game using the Free to Play (pay to win) model, but they launched it as a full retail AAA game.
Embarrassing all round, steer clear.

The lack of content in the game is poor. But let's be clear, its not pay to win. For an asymmetrical game the game is pretty balanced. The difficulty is finding a team of 4 whose collective skill is equal to that of the monster player. The strict roles of each player meant that there was no room for a weak link and I think this is one of the main reasons it bombed. It's not like something like rocket league were a good few players could carry a bad player.

Hmmm just been watching some guys on Twitch playing Evolve, looks worthy of 7.99, but I tend to only like to play at 60fps, shame it runs at 30

Am I right in saying this is effectively yet another multiplayer only game that bombed spectacularly?

26 Feb 16#24
Yes. Before launch it became clear there were various DLCs and versions of the game that were firmly down the online only, micro transaction-laden route. It's a shell of a game and probably should have been free, rather than £40

Yeah pretty much, from what I've heard the online user base is pretty dismal. There were articles from March last year saying the player base was shrinking rapidly, I doubt that's gotten any better. However, if you just want to check the game out I imagine £7.99 is the price point that's about right for you.

Does the game offer match making, or must you have your own team?

I really like the game but the DLC pricing model killed it. They basically took a full price retail game and applied the pricing model of a F2P game.
drunkenairguitar

This is a brilliant concept, priced 'about right' at £7.99. To get the most from it, you need a headset and a dedicated team of four as you'll need to communicate effectively to win as the hunters. Good fun as the lone moster too though. However, if you want single-player, you'll be disappointed. This could have been a great game but it just didn't work out that way. Would have been perfect for an (endangered) 4-player split-screen experience. DLC is of laughable value so be warned.
My beta comments were swept under the carpet, awful game. Definitely a contender for a F2P model and proper revamp.
Turtle Rock aced it with L4D2, one of the greatest :disappointed:
