Decent price if imperitive to obtain 4G, but all other specs are at a minimum (or even non-existent e.g. no flash / torch) but arguably acceptable for price.

I can't recommend this phone. The screen is one of the absolute worst quality panels I have ever seen. It's got a slow response, washed out colours, very poor viewing angles, and a shimmery top layer thanks to poor quality plastics.
There are other phones around this price point that have better screens with similar hardware specs.

Can you say which ones, where to buy etc? I got the Vodafone Smart First for £20, just to connect a Mi band, but if this is 4G then i could use it as a MiFi too, for £32 unlocked.
Great spot that's worthy of it's own thread :smirk:

In my experience, all cheap Android phones suck. The Moto G was the first that didn't, and since then we had a few other options. Of course after three years, even the Moto G is beginning to get annoying, and this phone is worse.
My advice: avoid if at all possible. From about 80 pounds you can get a phone that is actually nice to use.
If you only have 40 pounds... well, this is probably the best you can do, but you have been warned.

It depends what it's being used for though doesn't it? As a main phone with continuous use, this probably isn't going to be great. As an emergency spare that doubles as an mp3 player for the gym, sat nav for the car, etc... this is pretty good for £40

Bought LG Leon for mum from vodafone. Paid £50 and £1.59 for unlock code, it's a perfect little device running on snapdragon cpu. Fast and smooth, never had any lag issues, battery life is really good as well, and camera takes good photos for what you pay. If anyones interested http://m.gsmarena.com/lg_leon-7053.php
It's available at carphonewarehouse in gold colour, looks way better, but costs £69.99 + £10 topup from what I remember.

Search for 'EE Rook Unlock Code' on ebay. There are loads of listings, starting at £1.69. It's a ZTE unlock (ZTE manufactures the Rook).
As a smartphone, I can't recommend it at all. However, if you need 4G data, it will probably serve you better than the Smart First.

no root that i can find, as a basic phone its ok but I cannot recommend the battery wears down fast and at 2 months old I struggle to get half a day out of mine. Skype calls are impossible as constantly stuttering. Plus I fight the out of space battle with 3 apps installed constantly. The biggest plus is that it fits nicely in a pocket.
