I politely declined and proceeded to a local pound store.

I smell a rat these reviews are clearly part of some kind of campaign, almost all 1 star reviews are USA locations smyths don't sell to the US, check any other product reviews - location UK / Ireland

My experience with D sized Duracell batteries is they are the same capacity as their AA (2500mAh) but scaled up size wise with no extra power. For a quid not bad but I'd personally look at a decent set of rechargeable D cells if you plan to use them a lot. Should be getting 10,000mAh for a decent D cell
