this was the only coffee I used to buy, until I tried Aldi Alcafe Gold Freeze Dried Instant Coffee. Now I top up the Douwe Egberts jar with Aldi coffee.

Strange, went into Tesco, and these are not reduced, so not sure what is going on here.

It's all an elaborate hoax. We're all in on it.
Or perhaps your local store are a bit slow, or, maybe you went in a metro/express and the offer is only in big stores?

What store was that ?

reduced at my local
bought 1 of each type, cheap but nowhere near as good as gold blend, carte noir instinct, millicano , nescafe parisienne etc

Planned to go to Tesco early today but only managed to get there at 6pm. Got a little lucky as I grabbed the last indulgent and gold. One each...

Balls. Didn't see the indulgence on offer today, would've had that instead of the other.
Have been finding the Lidl Columbian and Aldi Columbian rather insipid of late (used to love both). Also, found their 'Gold' ones to be even less tasty (when they have previously been fine). They smell ok. Perhaps I need a new tongue.

Staff aren't always the quickest to print and site new promotional shelf edge labels as they have to prioritise price increases first for legal reasons.
Only drink this or Carte Noir - only two home instants that taste anywhere decent !! - (in my opinion of course !!)

I agree and I rarely drink instant coffee but it may be worth trying the Aldi coffee as recommended in the post above yours. Good price for Douwe Egberts. Thanks for posting.
£7.99 for this in my local Co op!

I am aware this is a bargain for Douwe Egbert. Hot for this ....
Does anyone know, what type of raw coffee bean do they use for making of this soluble coffee, is it Arabica or Robusta ??
The one in Lidl is 200g is sold for about £2,60 using 100% Arabica Coffee bean. In the meanwhile, Nescafe from Nestle is using 100% Robusta yet is sold at higher price.
Thanks

"a blend of the finest quality beans".... but doesn't specify Robusta/Arabica.

Looking online it is apparently a mix of both but with the actual ratios undisclosed.
Thanks for the deal OP, I am going to pick a few jars tomorrow.

That doesnt seem like a lot of coffee.

Irrelevant you get 190g of instant cofffee regardless.
Missus saves the jars to put lemon and lime water in...totally off topic but there you go even the jars come in handy

Serious question, I`m no coffee connoisseur (that took a lot of Google lookup for spelling!), but is this any better than the supermarket own brand freeze-dried fare which box-ticks well?

Depends which one tastes better to you.. there is no definitive answer to such questions.

I first tried this one a few weeks ago and I have to admit this is the best coffee I ever tasted. I'm obviously not comparing it to costa, ...

this is the only coffee we've drunk for a few years now, might try the Aldi one but seeing as you can always get these jars for £3.99 or under we've stuck to Douwe. Only problem is, the cupboards are now over flowing with the jars because the girlfriend refuses to throw them out, we use them for everything lol

Sneaky of them to drop the size from 200g to 190g, so maybe not such a good deal as you might think.
