Just brought one of these laptops from MCS technology as my last laptop finally died on me and I've been rather impressed with it so far as a cheap laptop for my uni work.

Oooh nice x Although the graphics card seems pants (useless) and no opersting system is just adding to the cost :/ x

You can pick up a bit windows key on Reddit for £11

Not cutting edge, but I wouldn't say pants - far better than no graphics card.
So for £240 you're getting a fairly nippy laptop with the added bonus that it can play games with about the same quality / resolution as an Xbox One.

I have Dell inspiron from MCSCOM, very good service.
Does anyone have any issues with their laptop draining quickly after shutting down?
The battery holds charge for almost 3.5 hours. Since windows 10 upgrade drains constantly overnight!

You sure it's shutting down and not in standby?

Wadz - I have had similar issues on my Lenovo Yoga - try uninstalling Intel Management Engine driver (version 11.0... you have probably with Win10) and try installing Intel Management Engine but older version than 11 (Intel website), please check if your laptop is actually going to "sleep" - or you can hear it going (CPU fan, HDD?) - that was an issue for most Lenovo + HP laptops after upgrade to Windows 10

Sell the 1TB HD before installing any OS. Buy a SSD got a pretty fast machine.
I'm looking for a 14" laptop with similar specs with Microsoft already installed. I won't be using it for gaming, just word and browsing and the odd film. Ideally want it for around £200.
Any recommendations?

HD 8730M is similar to my 740M I have in my laptop. If you're ok running games at 720p (which, to be honest, won't make a lot of difference on a small screen like this) then it should be fine.

The screen resolution means higher would be pointless anyway.

I've ordered my son a Acer Aspire E5-521 (AMD A6) laptop for his birthday which I am now about to pick up from Tesco's. He's not a heavy gamer but does like to play some games - how do this Dell laptop compare. It seems from the specs that it could be a lot better but I'm not that computer savvy!!!

It looks very similar to a laptop a family member recently bought. The build quality is horrible, mainly the touchpad/buttons feel cheap.

In the Christmas just past, the seller did 30% off everything.
When the deal first started, there were so many good refurbs at very good price. They were so tempting.
The stock went very quickly. The next day I check, the price was not so good, it may be seller deliberately increased price or all good ones are gone.
If you need a laptop and do not mind refurb, and close to black Friday or Christmas, it does not hurt to check the seller out at those days. You might get yourself a very good deal.

If I recall (as I was also after one at the time) there was excess stock of inspirons and business range. The one I was after went very quickly so passed in the end, but I don't remember price being increased. Some identical models were cheaper than others because of physical defects like large scratches or random missing bezel

Sorry but this is miss information. 3d mark score for this card is about 1500, a xbox one equivalent gpu gets about 6000 so its roughly 4x worse than an xbox one. You will not get anywhere near the same performance. Not saying it's a bad deal but if you want that level of graphics detail you will want at minimum something like a 860m gpu and laptops with that cost at least £600-£700

Check the review I posted earlier. It shows some games it can play along with the frames per second.
Anything above 30 fps is fine.
If you want one - be quick! There were 12 units available at the beginning of my lunch break - and now there are only 7.
Cheers again!

Thanks I've tried that site but they layout is horrible and usually end up running off pass mark scores only.
Guess I'll stick with a 950m laptop choice.

Not sure how many this helps, but mine has arrived this morning, looks in pristine condition and actually has windows 10 home loaded onto it, pretty much bloatware free, just without a valid licence key.

mine arrived today, around 10 am. ordered yesterday around 2pm. laptop in mint condition, the only thing which indicates that laptop is not new, small scuff on the panel which hides battery. put ssd in it, just flies now.

I've never bought from MCS before but I've been tempted by their Dell tablets a few times.
I've got a Dell outlet laptop now and it was mint when it arrived, has been faultless for a few years I've had it.
