Delicious lychees have once again been reduced in lidls. Came down from £5.99 to £3.99p/kg, but now half the last price £1.99! Emptied a box from the shelf when I came across these :)

Is this because you usually buy tinned fruit? Lychee skin is always pinky red in my experience, it's the fruit when peeled that is white Can't think why you wouldn't buy fruit from Lidl? Pretty sure it will be the same as other places.

Its an exotic fruit. Comparing it to grapes or strawberries does it a huge disservice IMO.
Just buy 1  & try it!

Aromatic flesh, not super sweet but they're still amazing. The flesh has a really meaty texture to it that is quite unique.

Never seen red lychees lol. This fruit is either amazing or rank depending on its quality and how ripe they are. I never buy fruit from lidl personally.

Apart from their grapes, I have no reason to fault their fruit in recent years.

i agree. I've never seen red lychee either. My granma buy it from the market and it's usually a pinky, dare I say, light maroon colour

I just wish hygiene was better at Lidl. Too many grubby, unwashed hands touching fruit/bakery items....

I wash all fruit and veg wherever they come from. You can also wipe clean or quickly rinse under a tap bread from lidl with thick crusts like the rye loaf they make. Then just leave to out dry.

Taste isn't dependent on the colour. I find the better the lychee, the thinner the skin ;-)

Crust washing is a spectator event in Belgium, along with tie dying of a banana loaf and who can forget blueberry ducking.

I tried these for the first time this week, One of the only exotic fruits available that I had not tried.
Am I the only one that thinks they taste just like Rose Turkish Delight?!?!?!
So if you like rose turkish delight you will love these IMO. Also the price is fantastic, Very cheap!

Love lychees ever since I tried my first fresh lychee smoothie in Thailand a few years ago. Will see if I can get some from Lidle to make my own, although I'll probably need 1kg just for 1 glass of smoothie (not much left after the shell and stone are removed).

lychees are a great fruit, very aromatic & fragrant and perfect after a heavy, savoury meal. pick the largest, pinkest ones for best quality and beware of mold or leakage.

Bought some at £1.99 per KG an hour ago. Tried a couple and they are very sweet. Really tasty and a very good price. I did spend a good 5 min or so picking the red ones then weighting them on the scales to hit the 1 KG mark.... :-)

good price but they 'were' 3.99..5.99 was ages ago - bit misleading just seasonal changes

Lychees taste absolutely fantastic when fresh. They taste rank if they are overripe. Have to agree, a thin skin on the lychee means that the fruit is ready to eat while a thicker skin lychee may taste sour.

How do you prepare these these? Can they be added to a smoothie whole, unpeeled ect?

waaaht? no - peel them and stone them first
stone is about half as wide as the fruit itself

Don't know how to upland pic on here from the app but I just brought a few. The ones in the box were very few left and looked a bit off but still picked a few to try out. When I got to the checkout saw a big handful in a bag left over from a customer so I swapped them and took a few out as there were too many. Got about 9 for 31p so cheap!!! Cheaper than the Choctaw I brought. Really nice and cheap. Should have got the rest that were in the bag too.

So f'd off! I only purchased a wee bag and specifically asked the girl at checkout, when does the offer end and in reply "oh it's not an offer its just normal price" so I then thought ok I can get them after work tomorrow so when I went back, they were back up in price!! I actually am really mad at her D:
