Been a long time since this amazing series has been this cheap. Normally always £18+ . Not only one of the best anime series but just one of the best series full stop. All 37 episodes across 9 discs.
IMDB score 9/10

Awesome series, worth every penny. I recently got into anime like 2 months ago, this was the first series I watched, problem now is I can't find anything anywhere near as good as this.

I prefer brotherhood too but I think a lot of people will watch FMAB and want more and as a result might look at the original but they can't enjoy it as much because they were "spoilt" by aspects of FMAB such as the pacing, animation quality etc. There are still some differences between FMAB and the manga and some details that were missing from FMAB that were in the manga was in the original adaption, although I think it's all fairly minor.
If you have to watch one, of course watch FMAB. I watched FMA first because I saw many positive comments about both series. Plus the author still helped a bit and did like what the studio did with it. All in all, it's opinion at the end of the day, FMAB vs FMA seems to cause some divide with people.

From what I understand, the original FMA anime was produced before the manga had finished. The series caught up with the manga then had to take it's own path. Brotherhood was made after the manga had finished so followed it completely. Thats why the first 15 or so episodes are pretty much identical, then they branch off in completely different directions.
I saw Brotherhood first, a couple of years ago and loved it. I only just watched the original very recently and it really isn't anywhere near as good in my opinion.

Blu-ray release just came out in America and is likely to come over here too.

Depends, the BD release in America was done by Viz Media as they have distribution rights. in the UK it's a different company Manga Entertainment.

If it ever does get a bluray release they will no doubt drag their feet with it, due to all tgevred tape. Could be atleast 2 years easy. The current US release will be Region A locked to, so pretty much out of reach.
If you get this DVD version now youd still get your money back on it aslong as you looked after it if you sell it on several years down the line, if you did ever get a bluray version.

I thought it was and is very good, I personally like death note and have watch most things DN related however its refreshing to see some major changes to the story and it is a bit darker which is what I like although its definitely not everyone's cup of tea.

Attack on Titan is the big anime series at the moment. Its by the same creator aswell. If you love Death Note you should really enjoy Code Geass. The main characters have similarities and they both have the same theme of wanting to change the world using special powers.

Really recommend u to watch the series called Code Geass it has 2 seasons total 50 odd episodes and this is as close as u will get to a death note type of series. In fact I watched that thinking it's not gonna beat death note but after watching how Code Geass ended I think it just about edges it out its really good!

I'd recommend the original full metal first then brotherhood. The original follows an original story but offers some better character development imo. The pacing is a bit slower which is why if you end up really liking brotherhood you'll want to watch more but because of that you won't enjoy the original as much.
I thought what was the point of watching both, surely just brotherhood is the only one but I see why most people either recommend watching just brotherhood or both but original first.

Brotherhood is essentially a remake. It is considered better than the original. Both base stories are the same but they have their own differences on certain parts of the story.
There are 2 movies aswell , but they each go with their respective series. The Sacred Star of Milos is the movie for Brotherhood and you may not understand certain parts if youd seen the original . Same goes for the movie for the original series , Conqueror of Shamballa.

Nice, I'll definitely check it out soon.
Should I watch the original series, or is Brotherhood a standalone type thing?

Anyone who likes death note should watch the Japanese live action series that came out in 2015 - its only got English dub but it's really awesome - I watching it at the moment!
