I can confirm that you can't actually order them by phone, or have them heated in store.

Any chance of a comment about what these Chinese meals are like rather than those about specific store cleanliness?

Thank-you to all who provided commentary on the pros and cons of their local supermarkets. I do have two questions though:
Firstly, what the **** do any of these comments have to do with this deal?
Secondly, where do I go to get back the precious time that I just spent reading about the state of the shelves in your local Asda?

Unfortunately all the supermarkets get tied with the same mass produced factory stuff brush.
That's why Morrisons stuff is done in thier M Kitchens by trained chefs and not folk in factories following formulas.
I'm not knocking the latter. But most people are cost driven but want quality. Something has to give somewhere. So to remain price competitive. You get a bit less in weight. Though the meat to sauce ratio is better too.
Morrisons could have increased the weight amount and just added more sauce, but it's about getting it right. That's the difference. Am sure if you try it, you will realise. Like I said, shame we just look at it andoes think....."Wow that is expensive for the amount you get" When it's probably a smaller profit margin too.
Anyways, enjoy to those buying em in. Am sure this is a small loss leader to get some new customers trying out the range.
Oh and a side note.....Sausage rolls cooked in store and doughnuts are the best tasting out of the supermarkets too. Give me a Morrisons Sausage rolls over a greasy Greggs every time!

Don't think this is an interesting observation relative to the deal. In fact why would this be at all relevant?

Tried the crispy battered sweet & sour chicken (the one in the foil tray) tonight and it was excellent. Sauce was very rich & tangy. Chicken was breast fillet (not reformed). Overall even nicer than Sainsbury's version of the same meal - and I never thought I'd say that. Bargain at £1.50.

Aldi/Lidl will soon reach a peak and then start to loose it.
They have a few problems which they dont seem to be addressing:
1. They dont seem to be any cheaper than the main supermarkets if you stick to buying supermarket own brand stuff
2. They only have 4 checkouts at the ones in our town (vs 20+ for Tesco/Asda/Morrisons/Sainsburys) so theres allways long queues at the checkouts
3. when you are at the checkout, your goods are flung through at hyperspeed, meaning you have to chuck everything back into the trolley that you have unpacked so you can then re-pack it into carriers away from the checkout. Its just hassle!
4. Aldi/lidl are set out like warehouses (Like Asda of the 80's) so everything is a jumble in no logical order. They just dont seem at all welcoming (Very German)
5. A LOT of things on sale are very close to sell-by-date (was uncovered on Dispatches a few months back) and some even considerably past the sell by date
I briefly tried Aldi/Lidl as the main supermarkets but i quickly uncovered their flaws and switched back to Asda/Sainsburys

Except you don't have to feel like a poor person when buying their store-brand stuff at aldi/lidl like in tesco/asda the packaging for that stuff in asda/tesco is just dreadful and the quality is so much better than the nasty nasty made in UK stuff sold in asda/tesco.

I've found the Indian and Chinese Takeaway food really nice from Morrisons. The containers looknow to have less product than you'd expect. But the quality of the food is very good.
Shame it's not on the Indian too, but I will be stocking up.
Worth paying but more for quality, but with this deal you get both

I have had a few of these before (yellow stickered) and I can confirm in my humble and opinionated opinion, it tastes the same as any other stores takeout range after a few drinks, with the exception of Asda which is pretty spot on with the dodgy takeaway with a very generous 2 star hygeine rating.

I should hope they're £1.50. The portions are TINY with these. I'm sure they'd try and tell you it's 'portion control' but I am a grown adult now with an appetite bigger than an anorexic water vole. No way are they ever worth full price.

If you rate Tesco sandwiches then Morrisons sandwiches must be really awful! As soon as you open the packaging on a Tesco sandwich the bread dries out faster than bread in a toaster! Pitiful quality really :-(

My local morrisons is very poor . The self checkouts are slow and not fit for purpose ( and they are the new versions) . Apart from the specials , most items more expensive than asda/ tesco . Always 50% checkouts closed ,except Saturday's. Unrewarding shopping in a competitive market.. especially as Home Bargains/Aldi/tesco/wilko/cheaper local butcher/fruit shop, all in walking distance of my local .. Special offers the only time I venture in.Cant see them surviving long term.
Askrulous

Re comments about poor standards at Morrisons, I think it's store management dependant. For example my local was selling rotten meat for a while, like it was the norm. Also, some of the staff were communicating in their ethnic language, which is fine in the staff room, but very rude in front of customers. So, in spite of it being my nearest supermarket, I gave it a swerve for a while. Anyway, went there recently and spotted management faces which I hadn't seen before. So far no rotten meat and everyone speaks English in front of customers, which is nice.
Oh, and heat for the deal OP!

Are you sure you are not talking about Tesco which has always looked grubby.

I prefer Morrisons over other supermarkets, but use all of them for offers when i need to.
Asda is the worst.Their shelves look like a jumble sale if there's anything good on offer like cereals.Empty box flung everywhere etc..Misprices all over the place. You've got to scrutinise your receipt before you go.
Aldi is great for same date bread and bagged salad. Most people don't even realise, they just take them off the shelf without looking.

- Local Asda, clean, no problems, bread has better sell by dates than Aldi and is the same price, way more expensive for meat though (but so is every supermarket)
- Aldi, good, cheap but hit and miss on sell by dates, especially for free range chickens and bread
- Morrisions/Tescos, fine but dearer
- Sainsburys, etc. Never gonna happen, way too expensive
I think it depends on where you are in the country and what you buy

3 Feb 16#16
Agreed. It was about the same time they were making staff cuts I started noticing them (tablets), maybe just me, or their rollout! lol.
That's some antiquated management structure! I know they boast of 'Market Street' as being a key selling point, but no need to have the stock management practices of a 1960's green grocer.

My local is good but just never go near their salad bar as they sold me 2 containers of foods that had gone off. Nasty.
jordanc93
3 Feb 161#14
Yes they've been using the tablets instores for 2 or 3 years now whilst this makes the task easier than carrying around folders full of paper it would have been much cheaper to invest in an automated ordering system and using handheld scanners to check for gaps on shelfs and keeping stock inventory up to date/accurate. This type of out of date manual ordering only works properly in shops with a small product range and isn't suitable for businesses selling 1000's products in store.

A few months ago my local one started using 'staff-held' tablets for stock-control/stock-keeping.. Mighty frustrating when I'm chasing 'yellow stickered' items. Still unsure about sales IT actually being joined-up to orders though!

3 Feb 162#11
Morrisons stores are still even in these modern times manually ordering all of their stock item by item. ASDA, Tesco & Sainsburys have an automated ordering system in place to keep stock coming in. I can only guess Morrisons instore managers aren't ordering enough of products into stores as my local store has often ran out of certain products and for more than a week sometimes.

I tried buying their sandwiches about 10 years ago and nearly vomited as I was used to Tesco sandwiches which were as good then as they are now. It was like some primary school kids had bungled an attempt at making the sandwiches, cheap quality bread, over buttered... Yuck

I'm not sure about being grim, but they appear to be the most desperate of the BIG 4 to try and attract customers lost to the likes of Aldi and Lidl.
But, some offers will be beneficial to some. Take advantage.
