BT Mobile have an offer on the 20gb tariff for £16 a month for BT broadband customers (or £21 a month for non BT broadband customers).

If you have BT broadband at home, then select "got BT broadband at home" at the top and the price drops to £16 a month.

Also, possible £35.35 TCB.

I think this is a great deal as long as you dont need tethering as BT Mobile do not allow this.
Otherwise, the network has been great. I have been with them since they started and data speeds have been consistent throughout the day ranging from 25mbps to 30mbps.

They are also offering an add on for an extra £4 a month which doubles the data speed to up to 60mbps (I havent tried this yet)

I think the hotspot option is blocked on iPhones unless you jail break but should be ok on android. I don't see their logic of not allowing tethering on a limited data tariff. Not a huge deal for me. I rarely tether and have another phone to do it on anyway

Typical rang EE to cancel my contract so could take this out
Their best off was 16GB data, unlimited text and unlimited calls for £34pm
So continued with cancellation and purchased this deal

1hr later EE ring me back asking why I am leaving, told them and they offered me this

18GB Data, unlimited texts and unlimited calls for £15.99pm (tethering allowed)

not bad at all.

o2 couldn't really care less - they eventually offered to knock £3 off their 12GB data, unlimited calls/text package and just kept repeating that they had an extra 50% data deal at the moment ... they couldn't grasp that the BT offer was a lot better ... and obviously can't get near this deal at all.

I couldn't believe the deal they offered to be fair, maybe it was because I rang up, cancelled and asked for my PAC code all at the same time

I can confirm too its the double 4G speed that you get and you signup for 12 months

The wording seems to be really clever. EE are quite clever for example in their wording which allows them to increase the contract cost every march/April at the current rate of inflation

Well things have started well with BT Mobile i phoned them yesterday to say still not got my sim which i ordered on the 4th Feb at 10:30am and looking on the site i should have had it before the 8th Feb well for some reason the order got delayed and the guy on the phone said it would be with me today.....Guess what post has been no sim :-( Phoned again to be told it will be with me tomorrow and they are very sorry!

If I'm honest guy on the phone did not even sound bothered and i had to give him my mobile number now so i can text them to say the sim has turned up tomorrow. What is that all about but told me he will text me first today which was over an hour ago but still not text!

Has anyone else here already got their sim?
Mentos
9 Feb 16 #120
Unfortunately if the terms say no tethering they have every right to enforce that.

Ultimately network capacity has a cost to them. They dimension their network based on subscriber metrics. A 20GB data allowance likely has a very different usage pattern when restricted to mobile use only. Ignoring more complex modelling of when and where the allowance is used, at a very basic level subscribers on such a tariff are probably less likely to regularly get through the full allowance as opposed to a tariff which includes tethering.

As I said previously they may not police it now, but that could change at any time. Even on a per subscriber/area basis. For example in areas suffering from network congestion they may investigate and first weed out people abusing the network before taking the costly step of increasing capacity.
Mentos
9 Feb 16 #119
Well thats very much dependent on where you use your phone. A network that has poor coverage for you may have the best coverage for someone else (and vice versa).

There are plenty of coverage maps online to give you a good indication of coverage in the areas important to you. However, even using those you may find a place important to you (your home/office/etc) is a dead spot in terms of signal reception. If you're moving to a network for the first time I always advise picking up a Paygo Sim to check reception in the places most important to you.

Generally most of the networks cover the vast majority of the population and those living in cities should find the differences between them marginal. Except for dead spots specific to certain places based on the frequency they use and the location of the nearest BTS and network congestion.

7 Feb 16 #104
If you're using it occasionally fair enough. But if you need tethering regularly I'd advise getting an appropriate contact.

Just because they aren't enforcing the policy now that could easily change. Most networks generally have extremely punitive charges out of bundled data. And since this is a contract not paygo, they have everything they need to smack you with a massive bill.

Thank you HUKD! Just bought this. I've been on a 30 day rolling contract that is a lapsed 12month sim only deal for unlimited texts, calls and 4gb of data with EE, costing £22.99 per month. Got to say everyone I spoke to at EE was very friendly and tried their best but could not match, best they could offer was £21p/m for 10gb and unlimited calls and texts, which isn't bad but doesn't compare considering you also get BT WiFi hotspot usage with BT, plus £40 quidco has tracked!

They must have changed the rules then. I downgraded once within my 12 month contract, to the lowest tarriff, then went back up to the 2gb one, and yesterday upgraded again to 20gb one. Every change i made has taken effect from the date i updated online.

You are only allowed to downgrade once in a 12 month period. but can go the other as many times as you want (which would be 2 upgrades from the lowest one).

Doesn't work.
I downgraded but that doesn't tale effect until the 4th of next month. There is no option to upgrade because I'm still on the 20gb until the 4th. The 4th is my refresh date. Seems I'm gonna be stuck with 2gb for a month.

This is perfectly priced and I guess to catch all the moaners who've been kicked off the Three One Plan. I'm on a crappy 2gb plan on EE and just come out of contract so this is perfect.
My issue is at the moment my BB is with Sky until May. I have two choices if I want this deal:

- take it at the £21 rate and hope I get the discounted £17 when / if I join BT BB in May.
Or

Ok so we can tether but if you take the **** they will remove it, fair enough. Whats the service like (I live in east/central london) and can BT sims go straight into a EE phone?

But not on BTs page, which would be a worry for me.

They seem to have dropped the #10-#20 Amazon gift card at the moment, which is a shame. My son got the 2GB plan for a special offer #8/.mth (BT household) with #35 Quidco and #20 Amazon gift card, boith of which he has received no probs. Makes the plan 3 and a half quid per mth over 12 months. Crazy deal. The gift cards will be back so keep checking.

The amazon voucher is actually mentioned on TCB's page. (At least for me anyway)

If you are already with bt mobile on a lesser tariff you should find you change your plan to this one at this price if you want to and it won't extend your existing contract period. Hate that I can't tether to my iPhone with my bt mobile sim in though!

Thanks for the heads up Bud...only just activated my sim yesterday at the old £20 price. Rang them up and they reduced my bill.

Vodafone offer Wifi Calling as well.

What I do miss from EE is VoLTE. Vodafone are supposed to be implementing this as well, but currently the phone still switches from 4G to E (GPRS) when making/receiving a call. Can be a bit annoying if you need to use the internet soon after the call as it doesn't always switch back instantly to 4G. I assume BT would have it implemented since they're using EE's network, as unlike Wifi Calling theres no additional network components/config required.

Hopefully this offer or similar is around in a few months when my Voda contract comes up for renewal. As I can use it to beat them down  (one big advantage with Vodafone for us is free spotify).

Don't forget 35 pounds Quidco!
Scorpion
5 Feb 16 1 #15
I've currently got a 12 month BT 2GB SIMO contract. Got it during Black Friday, £8pm, but I got £35 quidco and a £20 Amazon voucher from them. Given I use Amazon lots, it was like getting £55 cashback, thus making the contract £41 for the year or £3.42 a month if you prefer. A good deal for 4G coverage that works virtually everywhere I frequent!

N.b. when ordering online keep screen grabs of your order, as initially BT tried to tell me I ordered by phone and wasn't due the Amazon voucher, that wasn't true, it was only thanks to my extended browser history plugin and going to the trouble of PDF'ing lots of their e-mails and so on that I was able to get the Amazon voucher.

Just to correct you here, not in a nasty way but just for your info, WiFi Calling is a new feature in iOS 9 (I think) but is currently only used by EE in the UK. It basically routes your calls via your wifi if you don't have a good mobile signal. Unfortunately as yet BT Mobile don't offer this, whether they will in the future now they own EE is another thing

I was reading that you need to be a BT landline customer to use the wifi calling? Unless I got my wires crossed. OK very last two questions can you receive calls through wifi calling. Based on someone calling your number? Sorry just want to make sure as I'm very tempted
d84rk_knight to ayaz51
5 Feb 16 #9
No you cant receive calls through wifi by someone just calling your number in the usual way. Wifi calling will only work through apps like whatsapp or skype.

I think your getting confused with the bt smarttalk app which is for landline customers which allows you to make calls through wifi and get billed through your landline account (useful especially when abroad because you get charged as you would when calling from the UK, so if you have free evening/weekend calls, then calls will be free to make back to the uk. But be careful with the time difference as you need to look at the UK time). But even this app does not allow you to receive calls.

They run on the EE network, which has now been taken over by BT anyway.
