Almost identical to the lenovo one posted a week ago but with windows 10 pre-installed.

Good review here - this is probably good if you want something compact and aren't that botherered about streaming, but the wintel box is probably a better buy if you are after windows and want streaming. Although I've got to add, for the price at 46 quid it's a bargain for a system that will run windows, kodi and probably stream a lot of what is available with no problem - just not the really hi res stuff.
look good - would this be better than an android tv box? I have an M8S, but fancy one of these too for windows

Just ordered one using the free delivery without a tracking number. Thought that a tracked package would attract more attention in tge customs but am now slightly worried as I've read some reviews claiming the website is a scam. Anyone had positive experience with them?

Ive used Gearbest ( and Banggood and Aliexpress, DX.com etc) for ages now and have orders well over the price you are paying and never had an issue, there are very few people who actually have issues outside of things going missing in the post ( it happens with general Royal Mail post as well, ive actually lost more via Royal Mail and internal UK post) scammers who've received the item and are trying to get their money back as well, and those who have broken their items and are trying for a replacement or refund. I did some work for one of the returns/sorting houses and you'd be surprised how many people break their stuff and try and claim it arrived like that.

it'll be just fine and dandy for Kodi, it's as well spec'd as any of the kodi specific droid boxes you'll buy for similar (or usually more) money

Also been toying with the idea of buying one of these to replace a struggling Shuttle media centre PC with a failing motherboard. If I was going to buy one it would have been one of the branded versions from Lenovo or Intel that come with a better chance of future support. Personally, I wouldn't trust the Windows install on an off brand china stick. Just playing the waiting game now for the new version to hit the shelves.

Look into Intel, Lenovo manufacturing. good chance the intel or Lenovo sticks are coming from the same factories in China as the non branded ones.

this looks amazing! excellent for a Kodi setup! with the massive advantage of running windows 10, so you can literally do anything else you want with it too, far better than an amazon firestick

similar sort of specs to the Linx 10 tablet, which actually handles quite a few games in my Steam library pretty well
had a blast with WRC powerslide on ^ that with an Xbox 360 controller attached
sucks at real big big high res vid files though, really really does :disappointed:
just doesn't have the grunt (or the RAM)
be great for Kodi etc though, with the added bonus of win10 sitting there should you need it

There are a LOT of these older Baytrail based mini PC's being dumped on the market now, they do have a few bugs, but for low end usage, they're ok-ish.
The newer Skylake based ones are what I'm waiting for, much more stable and capable.

Hi. Do you think it will be powerful enough to play minecraft?
They have it on their consoles etc, but keep going on about getting the PC version to play all the mods that the youtubers go on.
Ta.
JimBobJr to benskia
1 Feb 16#34
No, it will probably be worse than the console version. If you're kids want modded minecraft look out for openbox deals on misco or amazon for i3 (or i5) PCs or ones with an AMD A8 (or A10)
chewchewtap7846 to benskia
2 Feb 16#48
not really.
it will play minecraft around 30fps on the lowest settings but its ugly with horrible draw distances.
The Windows 10 app version of Minecraft plays perfectly although its a more limted version of minecraft

You don't pay none because they state to custom the value of the package is less than £15 (Anything more your liable). All the stuff i buy from China maximum stated to custom is $20 which is less than £15.

All of the reviews I managed to find for the Z3xxx series and X5-Z8xxx series CPUs seem to suggest that H.265 films at worthwhile bitrates are pretty much beyond these - choppiness and stutter being evident.
the X7 cherry trail CPUs seem like a possibility though..... I'm eyeing up the Voyo V3....
This lools better than the lenovo as it does not appear to have a built in fan.

I encode most of my blurays at 1080p .mkv with H264 and either AC3 or AAC. File size is always around 3.5gb and plays fine for me using a low end nuc so this will play it woth no issues.

As other comments have said possibly. However GearBest do their best to try avoid charges like this and of the 3 items ive ordered from them, none of them have been taxed (Phone, Case & Gift Sets)
stuellis
1 Feb 16#21
Depends how honest they are when sending it, if they claim its under £15 or a gift it will most likely get in without additional charge. If they declare its true value then yes VAT & Import duty will need paying on top plus an admin charge
rev6

It's possible.

1 Feb 16#18
3.4Gb means very little on its own - it could be 8 hours long and therefore be streaming at a much lower (and more manageable on lesser hardware) bitrate than if its 3.4Gb and 15 mins long.
rev6
1 Feb 16#17
It depends on the codec and encode.
For example. 4K trailer of Elysium encoded with H.264 Bitrate 26.3Mbps which is decoded with QuickSync (hardware accelerated) and it uses 0.5% CPU. Hits near 20% usage with software decoding which wouldn't be handled too well with something like this.
Newer Intel CPU's support H.265 hardware accelerated decoding with QuickSync which is what I'd aim for.
Test was done with MPC-HC (LAV Filters).

1 Feb 16#16
Either software or hardware. I've got some 3.4Gb mp4 files. Wondered what the minimum I needed to play these in VLC?
hitman007
1 Feb 16#14
Does it play 4k video?
rev6 to hitman007
1 Feb 16#15
Hardware accelerated? Some H.264 encodes with QuickSync, yes. Not H.265
The CPU is most likely going to struggle decoding it.

Where is this company based, seems to be lacking any contact information for the company which is a big negative. Looks to be from outside the EU but that is a guess, if it is you could get stung for VAT, import duty and admin

I've posted a question about whether it comes with a Windows 10 licence. There is a similar question last year, posed, that asked about a Windows 8.1 licence, answered in the negative. I doubt, at this price, it will be licenced, but it's a consideration when purchasing.
Still, good value in itself
