I actually cant believe people still bang on about supermarket fuel quality. Given that its the same tankers, with the same fuel that deliver to supermarkets and the branded filling stations alike. Admittedly there might not be the same additives put in after delivery but as a big fuel user, about the only difference I see between the two is maybe (and that's a maybe) a minor (and that's a very minor) increase in MPG over supermarket fuel.

It's actually impossible to tell, unless you're literally draining your tank each time and putting in the same amount and doing the same route.

The biggest difference I notice is when a fuel pump clicks off as being fuel, in a supermarket it seems to click off sooner than in a shell. I used to work in the asda one, and I discussed it when we had a refit. Basically, asda want you to think your fuel is cheaper so it clicks off earlier, whereas a shell garage wants you to think the fuel is better, so clicks off later so you're getting longer between fills.

great price, but (and this is coming from someone who was born in Dewsbury) the Dewsbury ASDA is pretty rough. might want to bubble wrap your car to avoid the locals who seem to use the roundabout at the entrance to play elaborate games of chicken with oncoming traffic.

I'll stick with the Huddersfield branch - as ridiculous as it sounds it's much more civilised.

Pump prices are heavily taxed and with oil prices dropping so much hmrc are losing out massively which means the government will need to recoup is money somewhere else ..

My local Morrisons, in Stratford-upon-Avon, has also dropped prices to 98.9p for petrol and 96.7p for diesel, a penny cheaper than yesterday.

Been 96.9ppl at the local GULF station (Didcot) for months!!

Its about the additives though. Think of TV's - Samsung & LG probably supply the majority of Panels, however just because the panel is from the same place, does not make all TV's the same. Its all about the other little components that go with it.

Now what I do find odd is that Tesco Fuel is more expensive in West Wales, than it is in Swansea, yet Tesco hide behind the fact that it's more expensive because of transport costs, despite West Wales being closer to two refineries.

More likely the Shell has anti foaming additives so it fills easier.

Misinformed? How so? Firstly, it keeps the engine fuel system clear of hydrocarbon deposits that can cause damage costing thousands. Secondly, it gives more torque at low rpm and if you use that to shift up earlier then you will be using less revs for the same performance and will enjoy an improvement in fuel economy. Thirdly, all modern engines are certified for mpg and CO2 in the ECDC lab tests on the best fuel available (to give them the best chance). Fourthly, you also get more top end power, typically 10% more, and if you want to use that rather than the increased torque you can enjoy better performance but, of course, by using more revs you won't get better fuel economy.

If you really want to fill your car with inferior quality fuel, then please DO go ahead...

lol mate, they up the price because you are happy to pay it, don't be fooled by what you read. The deal is for fuel, not for what the rip off merchants put in it.

I've been using it for eight years. Nothing to do with what I read but actual experience: with a cashback credit card and money off vouchers from Shell, I pay less for more MPG.

A 9% increase in MPG for a 7% increase in price - do the maths, son

no my fuel gauge is fine went to total garage tonight put another £10 in just to see lol and suprise suprise it actually moved up just goes to show cheap is not always the answer as my dad says lol it's a Vauxhall astra 1.9 cdti that I drive x

Yesterday ESSO here was 97.9 and 96.9 respectively today both 99.9 so can be had at non supermarket garages sometimes (this garage is owned by MRH, 2 days a week fuel is cheaper)

Asda Morley-95.7p. Not sure if price has changed
