To be one of the cool kids keen to show they don't really understand technology I think but I am guessing.

However if it's cheaper than normal and you need a £250 watch without GPS that doesn't actually look nice then its a good deal.

Do you ever get the impression that apple have lost their way? New updates are solving problems that don't exist. new products are ..... of zero use unless you are a propper geek have no conversational skills and need something like this to talk to people.

... time to move on apple - try and think of something..... NEW! LOL

But this type of comment has been said alot through the ages about all sorts of things that eventually become the norm. Look at the changes the phone has gone through to end up today being a full computer in your pocket, do you not think people have also said this sort of thing through all its stages. And do we need to buy new phones every 1/2/3 years and yet the mobile phone market is still strong. When I look around all I see is people starring at their phones (even when driving) and talking about the content their looking at, is starring at a watch much different? New generations, new toys.

The smart watch is the just start of consumer wearables and will go through many changes and refinement. Ok so today for the mass its not essential but can you not see a day when it might be? It may become your mobile phone/computer, a wear one device and it does it all product. And Apple like all business who manufacture products have to come up with new things to increase profit, how many new products can Apple come up with? How many can you come up with that can reach global markets and generate millions?! While its not changed the world its still generated alot of interest for a first gen product.

Its easy to suggest Apple have lost their edge because they are huge and the exception that every product they make will me the next ipod or iphone. Its takes time to grow markets and prepare the mass for new things in order to maximise profit.

When I bought the first ipod or the first three iphones most people I knew didn't care for them or have any real interest even though they were game changers. Damn, it was just Nokia Nokia Nokia (and they knew how to milk the market)! Now everyone has a smart phone and wants to show you features or talk about tech or just take for granted like we've always had such powerful and exciting products. So now we have smart watches, then VR for the mass, then smart cars, then driverless cars. Its just going to keep coming and people will want it. Do we need any of these things really? At least be thankfull they create jobs.

While I heated this deal for the discount, I personally will be waiting now for version 2 or 3 before I take the plunge because I'm waiting for the refinement.

Wow, that was alot of blah blah!

Cool story. You don't get it. Fine. Skip the article. The word "crapple" is so old and tiresome. I have an iPhone. Never click or comment on Android/Samsung posts because I know they aren't for me.

When you post something like "crapple" everyone else just looks and thinks you are trying to justify your choice of tech to yourself by slating the other. Enjoy what you enjoy and understand people have different tastes. Neither phone manufacturer is better than the other. Chose what you like and shut up about it.

No, but they have my sympathy.

That's great, they are both decent devices. Not sure what point you're trying make here though. I also own similar models, they are two of many different types of tech I own.

Garage Windows? But how do you open them? I hope you have a long pole. Did you mean to say 'garbage'? Again, as I said before, perhaps returning to school wouldn't be the worst option.

I have finally relented.

I have so wanted one since they were announced, but wasn't prepared to pay the price.

I got the last 38mm Milanese Loop Apple Watch for £439 from John Lewis Nottingham. A saving of £120.

I have to say it is absolutely stunning and works so well.

After 3 days with it, I am blown away with it's functionality. If I'd known what I know now i'd have got one 9 months ago at release (as I almost did at the time).

In particular I love all the fitness stuff, the heart beat sensor as well the camera function and notifications. I really have become more active now! And Siri now actually works..... well!

I honestly think that this is Apple's best product yet. I really do think they nailed it.

I highly recommend at this price.

About broken iphone screen.
beware error 53, and non apple replaced screens.
http://www.engadget.com/2016/02/05/apple-iphone-error-53/

IbrahimLafayetteabout an hour ago

Here's a rather disappointing story about error 53:
iPhone 6 dropped, screen shattered including the home button which is the important factor (Touch ID). An iPhone with a shattered screen is not nice, but still usable, continued to use it. OTAs were always denied, one day decided to update via iTunes. Everything goes normal, at the end iPhone reboots, I get error 53, iTunes service cannot verify Touch ID. After a quick google research that brought me to the apple forums, I quickly found out that this was a common and apparent problem.
Device was still within 1 year warranty, contacted apple support, arranged repair. They demand a security of 350 € on your credit card, that's the price of a replacement unit or most expensive repair, furthermore you have to agree to pay this amount in the worst case scenario. They don't send you a quotation, once you've agreed to repairs, they find out what's wrong and fix it.
I was prepared to pay the ~ 150 € for a display exchange. They denied to do the screen and sent me a replacement device instead. Replacement was ~ 350 €.
Certainly it was my fault to drop the phone, but if just the display appears to be broken because of that, the worst case has to be to repair the screen and not pay for a replacement, because of touch id security. 800 € spent on iPhone, within a year add 350 € for a replacement.

LOL!
I've used Macs since they were first introduced here in the 80s. I was teaching and had a room full of these then 128k 'newbies'. At the time it was great, 128k? Sounds like a joke now. Anything Apple is a rip-off, we all know that, if you think it's not, look at their profits! However, the Apple Watch is the biggest rip-off of the lot. Would I buy one? If it dropped to under 50 quid, then I might consider. WHY do you think the price is falling? They have these made for next to nothing.

Consider an alternative, they work. Not only do they work, they are almost 'free' in comparison! Where do you think these are made?
My no brand name smart watch works superb. The only downside for Apple freaks is it doesn't say Apple on it. But then nor does the i-watch!
These are HOT deals, the apple i-watch is NOT!

Incredible deal. I've had mine since October and love it. For someone who has never owned a watch before since I was a kid, I never saw the point of spending so much money on something that just told me the time and looked nice. But this can do so much more. It's genuinely great. Tip if you do get one is don't buy straps from Apple, they're so overpriced it's insane. I've managed to pick up a genuine Apple Sport Band Blue from CeX, even came in a case it was practically new and had no visible wear marks. and only cost me £12 vs £39 from Apple. Picked up a Black band too that was a bit more pricey £18. But now since Christmas they've put up the prices of a lot of the Apple Watch Stuff on CeX but it's definitely an option still.
I've bought a leather loop clone off ebay for £16.99 but it hasn't arrived yet so can't comment yet how good third party bands are but they look decent enough rather than spending £129 from Apple.

Thats incredible 9 smashed screens in approx one year, I would try and get a decent home insurance cover for accidental damage with a £50 excess or always opt for applecare plus with those stats (also try to reduce to 2 or less incidences per device! get kids to be a little more careful or not covered) don't buy ebay applecare plus cover.

Also I use the media devil 'crystal clear' screen protector. I have dropped my phone on hard services a few times and its not smashed (but don't try this at home!).

Quick staw poll of the office, we have blackberries with broken screens (and keypads) androids, apples and a couple of windows phones.

Hmm wonder what the connection could be...oh yes that glass stuff.

Treat it clumsily and it breaks.

Funnily enough, all those regardless of being android, apple or windows who put their phones in a big bouncy case, ala Griffin Survivors, look imaculate, not cracked screens.

However, I understand it's much much cooler to have a naked phone, even if you look like a clumsy idiot with a cracked screen.

You have no understanding as to how this site works have you. It's got nothing to do with you wanting, liking or needing anything, and you are obviously not the target market for a smart watch if you think a smartphone shouldn't be £500. This site exists to help people find offers, price cuts, deals.

For an item to be added on here you simply need to ask if you have found it at a lower price than it usually sells for anywhere else. If it is cheaper it's a deal. The bigger the saving the 'hotter' the deal. And it's for items found in the UK. The clue is in the name.

I hope that helps.
jk80 to m4rc
5 Feb 16 #124
I find often people's opinions on the items can be just as useful as the deals themselves. There would be no need for a comments section if it was only about finding lower prices for products.

I don't want a smart watch but I have never slept wearing my watch, I take it off and put it on the bedside table as do most people. I wouldn't think it was hygienic to wear a watch 24/7, I used to work in a jewellers and have to change straps and batteries, often spent 10 mins cleaning the thing before we could get the back or strap off. So leaving a watch on a bedside table overnight is logical to me and most people I would say, what's the issue with sticking it in to charge?

When we started buying smartphones everyone was saying how bad it was having to recharge each day as our nokia 6210 lasted a month on 1 charge, yet it soon became second nature.

4 Feb 16 #102
Indeed. Why go for a run with one device, when you can go with two.

Apple logic.

No GPS makes the device gimped. Dependent. Your watch has many features the phone has, wh are those OK, but GPS isn't, by your 'rationale'.

Which is why I love all the marketing shots of fit people in lycra running around with a shiny watch when in reality they'd also need a bloody great iPhone strapped somewhere to their body. Quite happy with my first gen £50 Microsoft band, which does all the notification stuff I could ever want and, more importantly, tracks my rides with GPS without needing my phone to be with me.

Only found out that your pulse is logged on your phone every 10 mins - lowest has been 41bpm during waking hours !

Nope, No GPS for a while until they've reached a certain iOS saturation point. The idea at the moment is to handicap your watch making it dependent on an Iphone so you buy and stay loyal to two Apple devices. They want you in their ecosystem.

Horrible cynical stuff, but that's the game. GPS will come, but not until it becomes anti-competitive to do so.

Got one as a present, would never have bought 1st gen tech new but hey ho a present is a present.

Never wore my old watch to bed so taking this off and dropping on charge pad is no big deal.
I get two full days out of a single charge without using low power mode.

Apart from being an expensive watch I still haven't found many useful apps, just handy for notifications -super 6, football scores, texts etc.
Apple Pay works well.
Needs new face apps for sure.

Would have bought this used for around £100 or under, can't really justify any more than that.

A cover is a must, tried a glass protector but that shattered in minutes so got a 99p plastic one that clips over front-perfect.

Hmmm, so they release a poor 1st gen and no one buys it. They can either can it or improve it. Not always as clear-cut as you think.

History tells us that the 1st gen of nearly all Apple products were plagued with issues in recent years.. It's much safer therefore to go with the 2nd gen if you want something that is even remotely worth the money.

Apple know that this is how people think, so they'll not can a product that undersells if people generally buy the 2nd gen anyway.

Good price, great device IMO. love mine find it extremely useful. Trolls will be out in force but at the end of the day if you like the device and have the dough its up to you isn't it. If you buy it and decide its not for you sell it on for (at this price) i imagine very little loss.
And if the new version comes out in march and seems so much better you feel the need to upgrade chop this one in and buy the new one

I'll grant you the e-paper devices are a little better suited to the task but I just can't justify the expense for the sake of saving 3 seconds when I get a message, especially as I'd prefer to use my phone to reply anyway.
It comes down to what you get used to I suppose and I don't begrudge anyone having one - they just don't appeal to me - tech for tech's sake IMO (and I am a bu@@er for buying tech)

I wouldn't say that. I've had my original Pebble for quite a few years now, although it's old tech now the battery still lasts well over a week.

Battery life could be better, although I've only had one instance where it ran out of juice (on a 5 hour cycle ride, with the fitness tracker running). As for being thick, it's about the same size and weight as my Tissot.
ollie87
4 Feb 16 2 #26
Hardly a good example, the 3310 was 5th generation of that type of phone, you're thinking of the Nokia 1011.

Recently (say the last 5-10 years) Apple has been treating its first gen products as betas. (Granted I have bought some in the past but now I wait)

First iPod? Only had Firewire and no Windows support.
First iPhone? No apps or 3G.
First AppleTV? Huge - didn't do HD, had basically no features that the aTV has now. Was basically a crippled SFF PC
First iPad? Massively thick - very underpowered.
First Apple Watch? Poor battery life and very thick.

There are more too:
The first MacBook Air wasn't that great until we got the models with i5 CPUs.
The first-gen Retina MacBook Pro had issues as well.
danielson1978
4 Feb 16 6 #25
Decent price for a nice watch - I've had mine about 6 months now and also have an LG Urbane for work, I have just this morning had to take the LG back as I am getting constant disconnecting, why do I tell this story? Because Apple products just work, no messing around, no dropping connection, nothing, the software and hardware is all in sync and the user experience is always smooth - I've had a pebble too and watch OS is easily the most stable, OK the Apple Watch costs a bit more, and in truth part of that is a "status tax" but you can't fault their product on usability
Vanderlust
4 Feb 16 5 #24
Yes he should have said, only mugs buy first gen Apple products.

Which is true, it's not because of available tech improving, it's because of Apple's carrot and stick approach. If much less people bought much less Apple products, they'd be forced to compete by increasing features. Look how long it took for Apple to bring out picture messaging etc. Hilarious actually how terrible they are, but design and usability is king for most consumers who will sacrifice a lot for those things.

FWIW, I'm an Apple guy. 3 MBPs here, a new 27 inch iMac, generations of iPhones, iPods etc. My first computer was a Mac in the early 90s.

You get to know them well and they are very, very predictable. You can't understand Apple and not be cynical. Anything else is delusional.

Just wait until Apple introduce a new magical feature that they've specially created called.. the World Orbital Tracker. It will be revolutionary. A game changer.

You can now go out for a run with your £300 watch and it can track your movement! You can see where you ran on maps, see segments and see your progression! All without needed to have your bulky phone with you. Isn't it just wonderful.

*GPS watch users around the world let out a collective sigh*
