Are these the ones that take a lot of metal off your knives?

I bought this at full price and they work fine. very hard to find a proper knife sharpening shop these days and even when you could it was about 3.00 per knife. You should use a fine knife sharpening steel afterwards to refine the blade.

I have had one for 6 years now and it is first class. Ebay and Amazon sell them cheaper.

That might have saved a few bans that would have otherwise come from people arguing about how this device works

Better than any of the sharpening gadgets I have tried to date, whether manual or electric. HOWEVER, it is worth noting that when you examine the sharpened blade very carefully, you will notice that the blade edge is quite jagged and it is that phenomenon that creates the sharpness. I liken it to micro-serrations on the blade edge.
What it means is that the sharpened edge is fragile and tends to not last very long as a result. That has given me the subjective impression that I am sharpening the blade more frequently and that eventually I will run out of usably 'sharpenable' steel.
The only technique that gives better results is using a wet whetstone wheel with a mounting jig to present the blade to the wheel at the right angle and/or finishing off by hand, again being able to present the edge at the right angle to a stone or diamond steel, which is beyond most of us.
I've tried using traditional kitchen sharpening steels and got nowhere with them, no matter how much I have tried to follow instruction on how to use them.
The biggest obstacle to achieving overall sharpness of the blade is the curve in the blade and the flex in the metal, especially in fine/thin knives.
The Anysharp works better with some knives than others because of the fixed angle of the tungsten elements and the different thickness of the metal in any given knife, but it is not unusual in that respect, compared to other knife sharpeners.
