I miss the times when phones had a great battery life lasting over a week on a single charge.

Kind of unfair, because with old dumb phones we didn't do much except the odd call and text, now we use the smartphones for everything so obviously it's going to last a lot less longer. I can get at least a week's use out of any smartphone I've used if I leave wifi off and use it purely for the odd text or call.

Well everything else within the smartphone has advanced technologically, even applications which are now bigger (and more power hungry - literally) than ever before, why not batteries to keep up with the increasing demand for power required?

more powerful battery, you say??? Good point, but that would be for the next 'innovation' to get us to keep buying the latest and the latest and the latest and on and on .......before we realise (if we ever do) we've spent £1000s chasing the "latest" every few months or a year instead of say £2/300 phone that'd do the job satisfactorily for 3/4 years.........oh btw, when you meet the "latest", say hello from me,

While battery endurance tech itself may not have been improved, I do feel the battery "problem" has been exaggerated. It's not a big deal to simply put it on charge every night, and with technologies like quick charge and wireless charging it's never been more convenient to give your phone a quick top up.
hass123
1 Feb 16#32
Putting it on charge at night does ensure that the phone is ready to use every morning, but having to do this everyday increases the battery cycle. And the higher the battery cycle the less power the battery retains, and the battery runs out of power faster throughout it's life. An increased battery size (in terms of the power it can hold) would ensure a lower cycle and more power available, prolonging the battery life.

I've found it's never worth worrying about your battery cycles. Charge whenever you want, as much as you want and don't bother following any "rules" about charging. The battery degradation will still be small and after 3 or 4 years it's likely you're going to want a new phone anyway.
