Alba and Goodman brands have been selling at Argos for decades and Alba and Goodman fulfil a healthy market share and the customers have happily done so for the last decades. They know better since electronics started to be imported in container loads from the far east in the 1960s. Budget price for budget quality, you pay £ you get £ quality (you pay ££££ you get ££££ quality).

Personally, any DAB radio i buy from now on will only be DAB+.....
The D2 multiplex is starting in a months time. There will be more stations and some of them will be broadcasting in DAB+. DAB+ can produce higher quality and stereo sound at much lower bitrates than ordinary DAB.

I managed to get one from Selley Oak. As expected the sound quality is a bit carp but for the money it'll do for the bathroom. Thanks op.. Heat added..

Is that a Wogan tribute? A radio half-mast.

They don't make anything - just brands slapped on products from various sources (usually Chinese).

Planet Rock, Virgin Radio, Absolute all appear to be in mono. Classic rock in mono? Ridiculous.
Radio 4 Extra, which has access to an excellent archive of STEREO radio programs - e.g. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - lovely stereo production among many other series - is in MONO.
No incentive to install a DAB car radio, or DAB home Hi-Fi then.
But for workshop or kitchen, DAB is the new Medium Wave and this Alba is priced right.
And it says "Headphone socket for personal listening" I suspect that'll be stereo on the handful of supported channels.

It all depends what you listen to, we had every incentive of installing DAB radio in the car, mainly because we find the likes of Radio One and Radio Two absolute travesties for our own musical tastes and thankful the likes of 6 Music exist.

Beside BBC stations, only these which mirror the FM broadcast are stereo on DAB (Capital, Heart, Smooth). This makes having a DAB radio a bit pointless…
In case its of interest, this is the site I've always used when I want to check what new stations might have sprung up and what sort of quality they are broadcasting in (link on there to the local ones).

This is not rocket science guys.....
Depending on the radio station in question DAB is broadcast in either Stereo or Mono.
However, regardless of whether the station is broadcast in stereo or mono if you have a mono DAB radio you are only going to receive your broadcast in...yes you guessed it 'mono'.

Just in case you haven't noticed the stereo has disappeared from DAB broadcasting, they never announced the fact they just did it. The point is that the description says mono, all DAB radios are!

BBC stations are in stereo on DAB...... and other stations that are 128kbps or more.
They just aren't the stereo quality of FM.

Nonsense - my transmitter's still broadcasting in stereo on DAB. I think you have a duff radio. Do yourself a favour and get a decent one.
