At least with the plastic ones you can keep them outside for ten or twenty years without them going rusty until you realise you're really, really not going to use them. Then you can't even give them away and you end up taking them to the dump where you'll struggle to heave them over the side of the skip because you never worked out. Or so I've heard.

Shame it's vinyl. 20kg of plastic is too light for me, would have preferred 20kg of metal.

Not able to buy it. when clicking "buy it now" or add it to basket it comes up with an error
Good price but for £13 more you can get a pair of new 10kg proper Hex Dumbbells off eBay. These things are usually overly large and ungainly to use effectively.

You don't need massive weights to get results but this set looks like it's all plastic so maybe better to look for something else if you'll be using regularly for the long term

Good deal but do the plastic ends come loose when training with them. Have some similar to these but have to stick a little blue tack to stop this.

I may be thick but the weight doesn't add up! 4×3kg=12kg + 4×1.25kg= 17kg + 2×0.5kg = 18kg so do the 4 threaded collars weigh more than the bars at 0.625kg?

It's 4x1.5kg, not 4x1.25kg. Argos have the description wrong. If you zoom in on the picture you can see it printed on the weight.

the small weights are 1.5kg so according to the 20.5 total they are 0.375kg each which still seems high for plastic
maybe 20.5 is boxed weight or the bar weight has been rounded down just
edit: as guy above says^^

Bulky and not worth it, better getting metal weights, worth the extra, you would quickly progress from 9kg on a dumbbell no matter how weak you start, at least with metal you can add more weight as you get stronger without it looking like you're holding a sofa

Personally don't think this is a particularly good set for a beginner if you're intending to do a full body workout. The lowest weight combination is almost certainly too much to do certain shoulder, upper back and forearm exercises properly while on the other end of the scale with little scope for buying extra weights you'll outgrow them almost immediately for the larger muscle groups. Spend £7 more and get a cast iron set with 4 x 0.5kg, 4 x 1.25kg, 4 x 2.5kg. Much better incrementations and easy to buy new plates which you'll need very quickly.

Weight is weight at the end of the day but do agree with the comments the previous posters said about this....go for metal plates if you can........if the lifting bug catches they will last you a lifetime.........
Personally I would buy of ebay/gumtree etc....always used kit up at bargain prices....

20KG will get you quite far on biceps, but little else. You'll max these for chest, shoulders back etc. after only a couple of months. You wouldn't want to just do biceps either as you'd be out proportion; much better off looking for a 30KG set instead.
Will they carry them home for me? They look heavy.

I would be rightly impressed if someone can lift 1000kg. Anyway, the point is you gain strength and most would quickly exceed the weight these provide and they are unwieldy for their weight.
