This is a really good price. Hope this helps someone out.

Maps for ppl who know where they are going and where places are. Not 21st century numpties who teleport from A to B with a sat nav but couldn't tell anyone which way they took to get to a place.
I have both btw. I only use sat nav in city's I'm not familiar with but for long journeys get a map out will you.
Well worth 50p IMO.

next time you use a sat nav look to see how many satellites you're receiving a signal from, mine, I generally have 6 or so, with multiple others just out of range, it would be neigh on impossible to be in a position where no gps signal can be found, you may have trouble locking on to more than a couple in some locations so pin point accuracy wont be there, but it would be highly unlikely to not be able to get some form of location

just because you're on the internet , by whatever means, doesn't mean everybody is.... plenty of the older generation don't have any form of internet access

Because the welsh valleys are positively bristling with WiFi?

I have not yet found a satnav or satnav app that has scenic route plans embedded. A fair proportion of paper atlases do, green shading alongside scenic routes and viewpoints shown too. Be interesting to know if this 49p one has this.

Satnavs are great but it's really helpful to have a map in the car too so you can see the road layout in context and plan a route, especially if you are doing the touristy thing and driving down the West coast of Scotland. I don't see it as map versus satnav, rather they complement each other.Good post OP. Heat.

There are dedicated lorry satnav systems with data about bridges height and roads width, but these cost more so I guess some drivers just buy a cheapo ebay car unit instead.
Paper map won't tell me where I am even in good weather, so I still fail to see an advantage over google map in my phone.

That's exactly where smartphone has an advantage with wifi based location tracking.

Sat navs need a good view of the sky, they struggle in towns sometime with all the tall buildings so it's not inconceivable they could have problems in the welsh valleys, depending on where exactly the GPS satellites are!

You don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to see a Luddite who does not understand how the technology works.

It doesn't work in the Welsh Valleys and there are signs up telling people this.

Satnav's don't work in bad weather and in doesn't work in certain places of the country.

And they have a nasty habit of directing lorries onto roads far too small for them - I live in the country & seen it happen several times, including an articulated lorry damaging a bridge, resulting in the road being closed for several months & a 30 mile detour for locals

Not sure about that - it's based upon GPS which should always be available. What you might have concern with is downloading maps on the go. But you should get round that with a dedicated Satnav unit or downloading the maps to your satnav ap when at home with wifi or similar.

Agree that sat navs are more accurate, but I also use a road map to educate my kids on the geography of our country & to gain an insight into the different cities & areas. It is a great way to keep them entertained on long car journeys - far better than staring at small screens & potentially getting car sick!

Any France versions please?

Any half decent satnav will be more accurate. Especially Google Maps which is also free.
Not to knock the deal though, well worth picking one of these up for 49p

A lot cheaper than a satnav and more accurate.

Show me one of these Atlases that will take me to my front door. Will never be as detailed as online maps or SatNav
No, My last purchase was in about 2012. And I don't really use that. Pre-plan my journeys online and transfer to phone. That way I'm not taking your eyes off the road when lost in Bumpkinsville.
