Thought I'd give it a listen on YouTube - using Incognito mode, just to be safe. Awful. Especially as I misplaced the tab it was playing in and had to locate it. :P

I think I can make up my own mind thank you very much. It's not like it's a 90 min movie.

Everyone has their own taste in music so I really don't see how anyone can 'review' it.
The only thing more stupid is letting it sway your decision as to whether or not this album is worth listening to.

I liked an album that got the worst review ever given by Select magazine. No review is going to tell me not to like '12 reasons why'!

I recommend Coldplay fans to search for "carpool karaoke Chris Martin" on YouTube, it's really funny, it's basically James Corden and Chris singing Coldplay songs in a Range Rover, Corden has a feature on his US show when he does the karaoke with various artists, Stevie wonder one is good too.

FWIW - I have a fairly diverse music tastes that starts at slipknot and ends with girls aloud and I think it's a pretty good album to be honest.

I doubt a comparison with something else is necessarily a fair evaluation in most cases for music, especially in the bland forgettable spectrum (YMMV, naturally). It's not as criminally offensive as a lot of 'pop', but their main crime is being being - in some opinions - utterly beige.
I mean you can't exactly draw a comparison to, say, Darkthrone. That would only serve to be dismissive of the person who doesn't like Coldplay.

it sounds like Coldplay with all the good bits removed. If you dont like Coldplay this won't change your mind. If you do this won't get played much, though i can imagine putting this on to get to sleep quickly. It lacks any excitement, just music by numbers and 11 tracks that would have been rejected on any of their previous albums.

imo its the same with movies ive learnt over the years not to listen to reviews from media or even friends at worst ill lose 90 mins of my time and in many cases I get to see a great film id never have seen had I followed the masses and their critic!

This is not music, its cynically focus grouped music product for radio. I was actually at the meeting where they talked about adding a little Calvin Harris sparkle to their formulaic stadium rock "because people liked that kind of sound and it sells". Obliviously it's not true....that i was there. I heard the album inspired the new Sainsbury's mums clothing season.

I bought this album when it first came out. I only really listen to a couple of songs on it. The problem (well, my problem I suppose) with Coldplay is that all their songs merge into one. All their music is just theme and variation. I still like Glass of Water, though.

Why does it need elaborating upon?
You can't compare film reviews with music reviews.
A film focuses the attention, so a review could help on whether or not to waste 90 mins on it.
Music, people either like or dislike it once they've heard it and it's a medium that lends itself to other activities, like washing up or driving.
There's no logic to say that music reviews will help decide if you like a song.
