Feel sorry for chickens? Stop eating them. They'd appreciate that a bit more than the faux concern usually shown by meat eaters...who still want them dead & on their plate!!

Amazing price. However, I find it concerning they can sell chickens this cheep.
Seriously though, is there any welfare standards for chicken at these prices? Poor little chickens.

Disgraceful - those chickens effectively were killed for no good reason

What the hell is going on....ludicrous!..........and not just from an animal welfare viewpoint...sometimes it really is true that you get what you pay for.

I agree. In this case it is 5 chickens for a fiver.

I'd rather they were sold for £3 and had a slightly better life.

As above - this vile slaughterhouse society needs to end. A sorry state of affairs. Imagine the conditions these poor animals were raised in to end up being sold for a quid. The only conceivable way to hot vote these, is to have low ethical standards.

Are these chickens live or dead? With no link to go by, I haven't a clue.

Reminds me of a Frankie Boyle comment...during a recession people don't care if the first light the chicken sees is the one at the back of the oven...

well I wouldn't mind if it was £5 for 5 chooks in chooking Middlesbrough or somewhere similarly deprived like Liverpool or Sheffield - they need their cheap protein I guess - but not Birmingham/ Wolverhampton where there are plenty jobs.

No, there's not plenty of jobs in Wolverhampton, especially with half the mander centre closing down, unemployment has increased dramatically in a fortnight alone!

Cant wait to see your surprise when you eventually find out that it was a horse not chicken...

I don't know this retailer but is this not a loss leader to get people through the door?
This is clearly not the usual price after all.
Perhaps they are making a loss and they are normally sold for £3 each?

I highly doubt any chicken costing £3 will have had a better life than these poor chickens. They're probably from the same place! You need to spend more than three quid to get a quality free range chicken.
Spending your £3 would make your conscience feel better but not the chicken (OK...I know it's dead...I mean before it died!).
As for the deal, it's no doubt a loss leader to get mass advertising and footfall into the store - and bearing in mind the deal is listed here, it's a pretty successful promo!
As for whether it's a deal, well, I've got to say yes. I personally don't want to buy it, but I have no doubt that on the rare occasions when I get a chicken korma or chicken sweet & sour takeaway they're using cheap chickens so I can't be too high and mighty about it.
