This is a pretty special trip. New York and Iceland. First off, Iceland! You'll fly to Iceland from Manchester and you'll have two nights/3 full days although you could book longer. The bargain flights are with Iceland Air and you need to book three legs first leg UK-Iceland, second leg Iceland-NY and third leg NY-UK. There are a whole range of sub £300 flights from lot of UK airports which is fantastic for both Iceland and those in different parts of the UK if you want to depart from other airports rather than Manchester the price won't change too much. I'm a bit Iceland obsessed at the moment and this is a nice amount of time to visit the Blue Lagoon (book in advance) and do the Golden Circle. I've based you at Reykjavík for 2 nights at the Artic Comfort Inn. I've chosen October as the Northern Lights may be visible but you can adjust accordingly.
On 6th October you'll fly direct with Icelandic Air to NY. Now I've picked a pretty good hotel here, smack bang in the middle of Times Square. If you wanted to do a more budget trip look at places like the Jane with shared bathrooms or places in Harlem, Little Italy, Greenwich of China Town. This hotel is ideal for those that may want to be in the heart of it nxt to Times Square. The reason this hotel got me interested is that I couldn't find any reviews of the Shocard Hotel in New York but when I Googled the address is appears the hotel was known as something different but is now shut until end of April as it is reopening as a new 4* hotel apparantly! It had good reviews before and it looks like it will be pretty damn swanky when it opens and for those that like to be in the heart of it you couldn't get more central! Details of it can be found here http://hotelshocardnyc.com It was previously known as Hotel 41 incase anyone is interested.
You don't leave NY until late on your last day so plenty of time to explore!

I'm just off to Iceland and New York on Friday on a similar trip but its only costing us £500pp. Good effort but usually Holiday Pirates put together much better deals. Given that the Iceland tours and a lot of things in New York are quite expensive, its worth waiting for a better deal.

I use to work for HP so I know, it may have even been one I blogged ;-) The reason this is more expensive is because the hotel is better than others. I could probably reduce this price by a couple of hundred quid in a Chinatown hotel or one in Little Italy. This is also 5 nights in NY and 2 in Iceland.

Not of use to me but just wanted to thank Rachel (and/or Gromit) for their efforts.
Just because I can't use it, doesn't mean it's not appreciated, thank you for posting

There are cheaper options nearer Little Italy, Chelsea, Chinatown etc. I got a hotel glitch when I stayed so was in the Wyndham New Yorker but the transport systems are so cheap in NY it's no big deal wherever you are. The 7 day subway pass for around $30 is worth its weight in gold!I know some people like a nice central hotel which is why I picked here but you can save cash and pick somewhere in Harem, Long Island etc...

would look elsewhere for NY hotel TBH
Stay away from the tourist trap of times square.
Manhattan is easy to get around & you may prefer somewhere quieter.
I personally use Priceline a few days before a room is needed when hotel hunting.

I have been before and it is some place. I really want to go back and do the ring road in a motorhome. Only problem I found was trying to fuel up the car but once you have done it once it is easy.

I know, it looks amazing. We are marrying there this year at 9pm in the evening next to a waterfall and I cannot wait! We then have 2 weeks to explore Iceland in a motorhome.
