This deal is based on 2 adults flying out to Athens from London Stansted on 15th August returning on 25th August. You will be staying for 2 nights in Athens, 3 nights in Paros, 2 nights in Naxos and 3 nights in Santorini.

Trip breakdown

15th August - You will leave Stansted early morning on August 15th landing around 12pm giving you the whole day to explore Athens! I've chosen the Cosmos hotel because it's location is good for the short time in Athens and easy access to the port.

16th August - Check out early and head for the port, the ferry to Paros leaves at 0645 and it's a beautiful sail which takes about 4 hours. Once arrived in Paros head to the hotel Villa Melina which has a lovely pool and close to the beach

17th - 18th August - Enjoy Paros

19th August - Check out and head to the port, the ferry to Naxos leaves about 1145 and takes just under an hour. I've chosen the Rea hotel which is in Naxos town, this island is full of history and beautiful beaches.

20th August - Enjoy Naxos

21st August - Check out and head to the port, the ferry to Santorini leaves at 1250. Once you arrive in Santorini hop on the bus into Fira and then to Perissa where the hotel is located. I've chosen the hotel Villa Spyros which has great reviews and is located close to the beautiful black beach.

22nd - 23rd August - Enjoy Santorini

24th August - Head to the airport to head back to Athens, the flight only takes around an hour, spend the rest of the day exploring Athens, I've chosen the same hotel that you will be staying in at the beginning of the trip for convenience!

25th August - Head to the airport for the early flight back to London.

If you wanted to spend longer in Santorini there is a flight to Athens which arrives at around 1am, you also wouldn't need a hotel in Athens as you'd only have 5 hours between your flights so you could stay in the airport, the choice is yours!

I've done similar to this trip twice now and I love it, can't beat island hopping around Greece!

Price breakdown

Flights to Athens booked with Ryanair - £211.96

Athens hotel booked with Hotels.com - £44.62

Paros hotel booked with Expedia - £94.53

Naxos hotel booked with LateRooms - £53.86

Santorini hotel booked with Expedia - £129.27

Flight from Santorini to Athens booked with Ryanair - £52.99

Ferries booked with BlueStarFerries - £90

Total price for 2 people - £677.23

Total price each - £338.62

This deal only includes hand luggage however you're entitled to 2 10kg cabin bags plus and additional handbag so this is plenty for this trip if you pack wisely, personally I've done this trip with just hand luggage. If you want to add a 15kg case it's £75 each so make sure you pack wisely!

If by 'next to' you mean 1000 miles away then yes, these islands are 'next to' Syria.

Also you seem to have concern for destitute families (concern that extends to avoiding them at all cost) but give no thought to the fact your attitude, if held en masse, would amount to a boycott of these islands as a tourist location further destroying Greece's economy, making Greek families and businesses destitute and (thus) also reducing the already crippled ability of Greece to cater/shelter effectively to the tens of thousands of refugees/migrants arriving at it's shores.

It's just room only or B&B you won't find many hotels in Greece that do meals except maybe a pool bar, Greece is fairly cheap to eat out though

It scares me silly that you're titled a travel expert!

It's next to one of the most volatile areas on the planet, with tens of thousands of refugees fleeing on a daily basis. Death occurs within the waters you bathe in, with families destitute and torn apart on islands nearby.

Unlike you, and the Greece Tourist Board, I would not want my family anywhere near there.

Been doing the Greek Islands for the last 4 years with the little one, I'll stick with two weeks in one for now, have researched into doing two, but often it's financially best keeping it to one, and exploring the Island with a car.

Perissa was our least favourite but cheapest town on Santorini
BlueSkies
7 Feb 16 #29
Yer there's plenty of places to visit with the car, Greece has so many beautiful beaches and excellent resorts, probably best if you start off with a shorter ferry ride but to be honest the majority of the ferries are really comfortable so once the little ones a bit older give them the iPad and relax! Defo the cheapest Perissa, we've stayed there twice, heard Kamari is lovely too but we've always just headed upto Oia during the days we've not spent on the beach, such an unreal pretty place!

These ferries are going to be chaos - good luck - -wouldn't do it if you paid me....they had to move all the ferries last year to cope with all the extra passengers...ones that were left were packed - read all the reviews about it..when it is all sorted then it would be lovely.....
jaycrooks to Bargaingirl
7 Feb 16 #36

You base your views on the fact that "they had to move all the ferries last year to cope with all the extra passengers."
no links to your preposition at all, which is fundamentally very poor evidence.

Its unbelievable that some people have a simplistic forthright attitude with no knowledge based on a preposition about the future!

Can you tell me with your knowledge of the future when the Calais Ferries and channel Tunnel are not going to be usable as well it might help me run my life more efficiently.

Do you know where these islands are?

A holiday should be a break from worry and stress. There are endless locations elsewhere equally in need of tourism to support their economies. My own personal preference is away from countries in political and financial strife and neighbouring troubles.

There is so much uncertainty within that region, I'm not prepared to risk my own peace of mind about the certainties of a trouble free rest from life issues.

If you want to turn this thread into a call for charitable help for Greece then fair enough, I'll support you.

Thats odd. Its often in the news that the locals are enraged by the NON contributing refugees (and guess what religion 98% are) scaring off the tourists they have, and more coming in all the time, destroying their economy.
Not on the PC media of course. But all over the net - WITH images and video (BBC, Sky etc won't show them of course it's er........"ist" and "phobic" to tell the truth these days)

I watched a programme yesterday; a profile of Hitler. I was left amazed, not by how any one single person could be so monstrously merciless and devoid of human empathy but by how an entire nation of millions could be so full of fear and ignorance as to follow him blindly like sheep. This is a quote from what you just posted maybe other users should read it...

Should I avoid booking?

It’s very much a personal decision. If you are worried about the situation in the eastern Aegean, but are still keen on a holiday in the Greek Islands, there are plenty of the other options - notably the Cycladic islands such as Paros, Naxos and Santorini, the Sporades (Skiathos for example) and the Ionian islands such as Corfu, Cephalonia and Zakynthos.

Family were on holiday in Majorca last summer and a dead migrant washed up on the beach when they were there. Police are pretty quick to remove them though so shouldn't impede too much on your enjoyment whilst there.

I used to love island hopping in Greece and been many times, usual student stuff of: Ios, Naxos, Paros, Paxos, Santorini (Thira), Mykonos, Rhodes, Kos and Crete. Naxos has (by far) the longest and most unspoilt beaches that I saw, mind you, that was 20-odd years ago..Cost of ferries were dirt cheap and internal flights amazingly cheap. Never booked any accommodation beforehand, just got off the ferry and surrounded by Greek landladies offering accommodation. Now, where is my time-machine
BlueSkies
8 Feb 16 #62
Yer it's still the same when you get off the ferries loads of Greek landladies trying you to stay in their place, unfortunately I like to have things planned in advance because this will probably be the cheaper option! Doesn't look like much has changed

smiler03
8 Feb 16 1 #74
Superbly put together BlueSkies.

As a veteran island hopper I would make it a little easier. Miss out the first night in Athens and add that extra night to Paros. When in Paros consider a long day trip or even a night in Antiparos, a short local ferry away. Miss out Naxos and add that extra night to stunningly beautiful Santorini.

I do avoid beaches and prefer to dine out and drink at Tavernas, people and sunset watching. Antiparos has a nudist beach too if that's your thing.

Travelling by ferry is a very relaxing way to travel, you can sunbathe and spend the whole journey on the deck if you can find space (get there quick). When the ferry pulls in at an island that you are not getting off at, watching the organised mayhem at the dock is always fun.
BlueSkies
8 Feb 16 #75
Haha don't be saying stuff like that to me  yer I'm not one for busy so I'll have to look for a nice beach away from everyone else haha we usually get a quad and find our own little beaches anyway, can't be dealing with people haha!!
BlueSkies
8 Feb 16 1 #76
I do love Paros isn't it lovely, never managed to escape over to antiparos though, I am a beach lover though but I like a good quiet beach away from people haha! Nudist beach isn't my bag though haha! I wasn't overly fussed on Naxos but it does have some lovely history, Ios is more my type of island! I love sitting on the deck watching the world go by, going to miss not doing it this year!

Yes but on very sporadic occasions not enough to ruin a holiday. I would wager a guess that there have been less number of days spent on these islands by migrants in the Cyclades , than in any other European country by percentage of population in that country in relation to that of the population of the Cyclades . Which basically means no effect to your holiday :sunglasses:

I did a similar trip 30 years ago. We just got return tickets to Athens and made the rest up as we went along - do not advise this though as we did end up sleeping on the floor most of the time! I have travelled the world but still rate this trip as one of the best things I've ever done.
