£3.33/kg. Not as good quality as fresh obviously and has added water but still a good price.

My cat says that's a decent price, but she is a bit fussy!

Because of lack of local access to supermarkets, my butcher buys stuff close to their best before in B&M and sells them in his shop for over RRP. He also sells his daughters terrible cup cakes for £1 each. So, no, not all butchers care about providing value for the community.
They work with very small overheads and struggle to compete with supermarkets. I'm guessing the ones doing great deals are near supermarkets, I'm also guessing they cut corners somewhere to get that meat...

British or imported? Every time I see prices like that, it's from somewhere in the EU.
I have yet to see cheap British chicken breast at a butchers. :disappointed:

Not everyone is going to have space for 6kg chicken though

Our local butchers are all more expensive than the supermarkets. I tend to get my chicken from Costco or Musclefood.com

85% chicken so 1.5kg would be 1.275kg of chicken so about £4/kg.

Not all butchers are line that, your example just sounds like a poorly run business

Or a very well run business? As I said, the thing that drives down butchers prices is supermarkets. That's a fact.
He knows the nearest supermarket is a 20 minute drive away so he has no need at all to sell at competitive prices...
That's why it annoys me when people refer to 'local butchers' like we can all get amazing supermarket beating prices. It just isn't the case...

I have a good butcher near me(well 2 miles away) that does cheap deals, what he does is gets his stock in first thing in morning and whatever isnt sold at end of day goes into packets which he freezes and sells cheaper the next day so its then £2 for 1 pack of meat or 3 for £5, I end up getting the sausages as you get 10 in each pack and easy to cook as they arent full of fat like supermarket ones.
He does say not to refreeze them as previously frozen(at least he admits it) but I do so anyway as its already frozen or mostly frozen when I get it.
Theres another butcher across the road from him which is expensive.
1 mile from me in another direction has a butcher that does certain things cheap and rest reasonable priced and everything great, then a posh butchers around the corner that they want like £1.20 for a chicken burger(its 63p at the other one and I prefer it) and another mile down the road is a very posh butchers, there is a point of you get what you pay for in some ways but if I can get good meat that is far superior than supermarket stuff for dirt cheap why do I want to pay 2-3 times that at posh butchers for the same thing.
So you get good butchers around and some that just charge what they can by way of making out they are the posh equivalent.

So far I haven't managed to find a butcher that's cheaper than my usual supermarkets. But there are things I can only get from the butchers like decent beef or pork ribs, goat or rabbit. Look around, you might be able to find a decent butcher who sells quality meat at a reasonable price. If not you can still go to supermarkets.

Most butchers are prepared to do a deal to take some of the money away from the supermarkets.
These frozen ones from Tesco (100% chicken breast) are on offer 3 for £8 at the moment so 2.1kg of chicken (no water or salt). This works out at £3.80 per kg so not much dearer than this deal which is £3.33 per kg.
