Bit of an odd one this, just seen in store and the Payg upgrade is £319.99, unusual for straight price to be cheaper.
Anyhow, not bad for a great little phone (apart from the flap issue, I don't think the Z5 compact is that big sn improvement)

I've had this phone over a year without any case or screen protector and I don't have a single scratch. Some people are just careless.

Just got round to opening mine today. Certainly looks the part, but I am a bit concerned about the flip out socket covers. If anyone could recommend a magnetic charger that's not likely to make it explode and a case/cover that doesn't add too much bulk I'd be more than graceful to hear them.
Cheers folks!

I have used this cable the last year with no issues...

This is a really nice phone (I have one for work), especially in the sub-5" market. The flap covering the USB charging port is annoying, but you can get a magnetic charger for it and a case is a must because of its glass back. I'm in the Marshmallow beta programme ("Sony Concept") and it works well on the Z3C (it's good enough for public release now, IMHO).
Only thing I didn't like with Marshmallow is the tiny battery percentage figure (inside the battery icon rather than alongside it!) and the percentage is maddeningly replaced by a lightning flash icon when charging :-( I reported both issues, they accepted them months ago and still haven't fixed them after several beta updates.

I have one. Great phone. I wanted a bigger display so I gave it to my wife who was adamant that she wanted another Samsung, but with a small screen. She now loves the Sony and I have a new Z5. We are both very happy with our phones.

What makes this worth paying more than twice as much for than the Alcatel Idol 3 (4.7), which is £99, has 1.5gb of ram, has an almost stock android, weighs only 110g, and has excellent stereo speakers?

Good price for one of the best smaller handsets on the market.
I would however recommend taking insurance if considering this, it's very fragile. My mate dropped his onto a sofa and the rear glass cracked. Also worth googling the many threads regarding spontaneous cracking and Sony's refusal to acknowledge the issue.

I've been looking at getting this on contract, but might be worth looking at SIM packs now this deal has popped up... Why are decisions so ruddy hard these days? Heheh!

Just to add I got one for £150 from Smartfonestore (grade B, but very good nick) couple of weeks ago, now out of stock, but they did have a couple of Z5 Compacts (B's I think) for £250 yesterday.

I have this phone and wish I bought one with a bigger screen. It is really, really small and the 720p resolution can be annoying at times. The camera is actually quite bad unless you get the perfect lighting.
However it is a silky smooth experience. Never has crashed/frozen once. But then again I'm too afraid to upgrade the software as I heard it can make the phone slower..
The number 1 problem with this phone is that it is a scratch magnet. The first day I got it, it ended up with loads of annoying micro scratches on the screen. I have met some other people with this phone and the first thing they say is about the scratch problem. A screen protector is a must.

I'm posting using this phone now and disagree with pretty much everything you've said!
Mobile phones are expensive and valuable bits of kit. They need to be looked after. Screen size and resolution is wonderful for a compact phone, my charging flap is fine, I've only got a few scratches without any screen protector, battery life is the best of any phone I've had, camera is great too (although not as good there as an iPhone - but then it's not £600, so why should it?).
Heat added!

I also had this phone, great phone alot of power but agree with the camera issue my old M7 took better pics than it. The phone is also too delicate imo ending up smashing the screen twice during 12 months. I ended up selling and went for an Xiaomi don't miss the Sony one bit.

Amazing phone with a few niggles. The charging flap is a problem and will come loose after a few months as the little nipple that locks it into place is made of a **** plastic that wears away, not a major issue as i easily replaced mine for 4 quid.
I had to send mine back though as the headphone jack became faulty, just received it back from repair and I'm afraid to use the headphone jack so use bluetooth phones now.
Besides those two problems, it really is an amazing phone. Use manual mode on camera and you get amazing results, battery life is phenomenal, took mine off charge yesterday at 3am in the morning and I still have 25% left, that's with spotify streaming, gps running with bluetooth etc
As said above, it is amazingly fast. Get a cover and a tempered glass screen protector ready to put on as soon as you purchase the phone!
