Young's Gastro 2 Sea Salt & Cracked Black Pepper Dusted Basa Fillets 320g, was £4, now £2, save 50%, £ 6.25/kg. Loads of stock. Seems national. Could not add the image from my mobile, sorry for that.

This is one of those items thats up and down like a yo yo. 2 quid is the normal price, for this range, but every now and then goes up to 4 quid only to drop again fairly soon after. A marketing ploy.

Your statement suggested that a reason to avoid basa was because it was banned in some US states. The homosexuality analogy was simply to highlight your use of the bandwagon/appeal to popularity fallacy, that's all.

As with most of the food scaremongering sites, the linked site mentions a study which actually doesn't back up it';s claims at all (probably why they don't link to it).
Here's an excerpt from the actual Australian study these sites seem to reference:
As I am not a crusader for Basra fish, and still don't get the correlation with homosexuality , I wish you good luck with the Basra fish defence crusade . See ya

You imply that we should be weary because the fish is banned in parts of the U.S. which is illogical. To show that, I gave the example we should be weary or want to ban homosexuality because it is banned/illegal in many other countries.
An unreferenced news article making bold claims such as the fish are "injected with dehydrated urine of pregnant women forcing female fish to grow and produce eggs quicker."
1. How/where do they get the urine of pregnant woman from? I didn't realise there was a market for it.
2. Why would human urine/hormones have an effect on fish?
The horse meat scandal was down to a supplier in Poland. Vietnam supplies basa to the EU, Australia, etc so I'd imagine at least one would have issued warnings or even bans due to elevated levels of commonly tested contaminants.

"Is it possible that the after-school fish stick snacks you have been feeding your child could possibly be contaminated with deadly metals such as mercury?"
I think Betteridge's law of headlines applies

Er, we are talking about fish, don't really see the correlation here..
I doubt British and EU retailers are selling polluted fish which fail legal standards.
yes , we all remember the horsemeat scandal...

I like the taste of bassa but avoid them due to the polluted fish farms in Vietnam

Homosexuality is banned in some counties too so I don't see your point. Perhaps the reason it was banned in some U.S. States was because U.S. fishing industries didn't want the competition but who knows. :stuck_out_tongue:

Crispy Lemon & Herb Tempura Battered Basa Fillets also £2.
Enjoyed the ones in the OP post but found the batter wasn't very crispy. I imagine the tempura one in the above is a litte better

Here's an excerpt from the actual Australian study these sites seem to reference:
The study is also neither about basa, the Mekong River or about Vietnam. It's based on a sample of all imported fish and seafood to Australia in 2008 and does not mention basa, river cobbler or the Mekong even once. Link is http://www.daff.gov.au/SiteCollectionDocuments/biosecurity/import/food/surveys/survey-chem.pdf although it's down at the moment.
