This is the cheapest I have seen these, there are not many reviews about a couple on Amazon but they seem to be favourable. I got one to see if there was an improvement in sound especially when watching Blu-ray films after geting an AV amp (Sony STRDH550) didn’t want to go mad with either amp or subwoofer and it make a huge difference to the low frequency effects.

I have this and a KEF sub. This is NOT as good as the KEF but it is very good.

very good price, I was looking for this sub one year ago, prices was over £200, but than manage to found more powerful sub sw700 for £250. Anyway £99 is a bargain.

20hz is as low as anyone can hear, but this sub is stated to go down to 28hz. If you could find a £100 sub that got down to 20hz snap it up.

Sorry, my mistake. My speakers go down to 20Hz. The Yamaha down to 28Hz. Appreciate that there's more to a sub that the Hz though, so I'm still tempted by this offer. It seems like a very good reduction.
Hm. These go down to 28Hz. I've just checked the frequency response of my speakers (Q Acoustics BT3) and they go down to 20Hz. Is 28Hz really low enough for a decent subwoofer?

Yeah connect the sub out on the AV amp to the LFE and let the amp handle the cut off that way you're guaranteed of not cutting any frequencies accidentally

Cheers. Should go well with my keff sub and drown the other half out.

I was thinking about the same. Pairing with a KEF sub that is.

What does an active subwoofer do - run around the room?

It has an in built amp so it only needs signal connection.

I have an Allroom Air One wireless speaker that will accept an active sub-woofer connected to it.
There's only an rca connector marked sub out marked on the rear. Will that connect to the connector marked 'LFE Input 3' on the Yamaha?
Can't see what else it would hook up to on the rear.

You could connect it to that or the top RCA of the pair of connections if you only have a single output.

Can you literally just plug a co-axial from the amp straight in to the back of this? Currently have a SONY one to match my SONY Amp and Blu-ray etc. whilst it sounds OK, it's black and whilst hidden at the side of the sofa, still quite cumbersome. This one looks like it would blend in to the room better but I wouldn't want to sacrifice quality.

I don’t think you can use a co-axial connection, I use RCA connectors from the subwoofer to the amp it also has an LFE for single connections from the likes of a Denon MD39, if you don’t have dual outputs for the subwoofer the top connection will do and finally if you have no subwoofer outputs you can take the outputs from a stereo amp into the unit and then out to the speakers and adjust the frequencies between 50-150 Hz you want the subwoofer to use.
