it depends on what you need, the note 3 has no SD card slot and no removable battery or backplate where as the note 2 has a smaller battery and no fingerprint reader. I like the note 3 but don't really need a fingerprint scanner. I am however someone who likes SD card storage for easy transfer of files from one device to another or simply to store ROMs, pics, music or video on.
I also like the ability to swap the backplate out if you scratch up the old one or want a new look. personally I love the note 2 but if SD card storage ain't your bag and you are cool with maybe getting a case on your phone, go note 3 :sunglasses:

Has someone from the group received the phone?
I paid with Paypal. First they wanted my identity card , I refused, finally the idea of Paypal it's just this.
Second the number of the transaction , I gave it to them as confirmation that it's me.
And I receive this:

Then we will cancel the order and issue you a refund. Please check your account later.
Please note: For credit card refund may take up to 10-15 days to process and appear in your account.

So this gets shipped with Chinese rom? And where do you get normal unrooted rom?
morty to ssjinzo
4 Jan 16#71
You can get it of miui site.
For the money this is a good mobile it has a few bits it could be improved on which i hoped the note 3 would of solved but it hasn't.
camera is poor
800mhz not being unlocked is annoying but not really issue unless you are o2.
miui not a fan of
battery life could be better but i think this is kernal/software related
You can flash once with official rom and be fine no need to keep flashing that is people being fussy and the whole need 800mhz is rubbish if on three or ee you will be fine.

4 Jan 16#68
Camera is rubbish on this phone I do not know how people can say it's good.
Location over wifi works fine for me so it may be the rom or settings in your case.
Why are people going on about band 800mHz this effects o2 others like Three and EE will get 4g fine and if you are not then other issues are causing that.
Tafkawac to morty
4 Jan 16#70
The 4g issues were caused by the lack of 800mhz band. The WiFi Scanning issue is a logged MIUI problem. I actually took some good shots with the camera. It's a good phone if you're prepared to accept limitations and are prepared to faff about flashing ROMs and reflashing if a feature doesn't work. That's not for me, I'll send my money on a less troublesome device.
Tafkawac
4 Jan 161#67
I've had one of these. It shipped with a ROM full of adware/ spyware. You can reflash the official rom and keep unrooted (therefore Sky GO /Banking apps work) or you can root/ flash from the .eu ROM (and Sky Go/ Banking apps won't work)
The camera is pretty good and the device performs superbly...BUT the ROM doesn't fully support Fine Location (WiFi Scanning etc) so it relies on the GPS for location. (Means that in a built up area it suffers from drift and Maps/ Ingress can be a bit of a pain. Also it does not support the 800mhz band on Three - meaning when I used in London it was often on 3G when it should have been on 4G (My old Moto G 4G was on 4G in place the Note2 wasn't).
If it didn't have those limitations I'd recommend in an instant, but it does and they should be bore in mind.

How is the picture quality?
avalon50
3 Jan 16#65
Ok, but again on the WillMyPhoneWork site the Prime version only works on bands 3 and 7, and not 1 or the 800mHz band
avalon50
2 Jan 16#61
Does this work on 4g with either virgin or EE. On the WillMyPhoneWork site it says there are 2 types: This one 2015051 (FDD TDD LTE Model), and this 2015052 (TDD LTE Model) .The 2015051 model works on Band 3 and Band 7, while the other model does not work on 4G
morty to avalon50
3 Jan 16#64
That is only for the 16gb models.
32gb version is known as Prime so the only networks which 4g wont work on it is vodafone and o2 (providers that use either of those two networks will have issues as well)

I bought mine from a third party source in china very good service but costly as nowhere else had them in, now everywhere does so I would suggest banggood and expect 3-4 weeks shipping

Tried running a miui rom on my note 4 but there were bits of chinese in there. Does the EU rom for this have solid English with no Chinese? I also couldn't find a way to specifically only show certain Google contacts only those with just phone numbers not groups. Considering this as the wife now has an iPhone 6s and a bit jealous of the metal build and better fingerprint scanner.
Captain_Cretin to nikc0069
2 Jan 16#60
You need the "Global ROM", are you running a Samsung Note 4? I wasnt aware the MIUI would work on it anyway.
MIUI comes in Chinese or Global, you can set the language to English in both versions, but you will get Chinese specific apps with Chinese names if you dont use the Global ROM. Make sure you get the release that works with your phone, as they have versions of MIUI for different cpus. Visit http://en.miui.com/forum.php

Not according to Xiaomi it doesnt; either you have a Note2 or a fake. Is the battery removable? Most of the fakes use the same basic chassis with a removable battery that they use for fakes of various makes of phone.

I must say I own a note 4 and can happily report on Lollipop 5.0.1 it was lagging bad randomly, but after the 5.1.1 update it is silky smooth again. It shows though that a bad software implementation can wreck an otherwise great handset and I am glad I held off from rooting it for now.

The mini s3 has a 4" screen and the redmi note 2 has a 5.5" screen. The difference is huge and the redmi note 2 is too big for some. I personally don't go for anything larger than a 5" screen. People have been forced into buying these big phones by the manufacturers not giving them much choice but most people when asked say 5.5" phone is too big to handle and too big for the pocket. This is especially true for women.

brought this on Christmas eve for £106 from EU warehouse. still waiting for it thought allthough order processed with hermes yesterday. got a galaxy note 3 that is nearly 2 years old but is starting to break. gps doesn't work, wifi signal very temperamental and now the speaker volume is very low and people complaining they can't hear me. oh and a crack in screen lol. don't look after my phones so plan on taking a sim only package and then just changing phones every 12m. love my note 3 and this seems very similar.

the advanced note 2 still has 2GB ram but the processor is clocked at 2.2Ghz rather than the standard 2Ghz, real world use there is little difference, its just my ocd made me pick the 2.2Ghz version.
the note 3 advance version has 3GB Ram but on both standard and advanced the processor on the note 3 is clocked at 2.0Ghz
I like the small touches on miui like being able to swipe anywhere on the screen to pull down the notification tray or swip up to quickly search for an app, music or anything really. its nice that so many options are just there by default, I was always a stock android fan until I used miui and its just so much better than any other skinned oem android rom and love the miui community. I can see big gains in the mobile market by xiaomi this year since more people are spreading the word of how low cost mobiles can perform amazingly well

Agree with you and stone trap completely it's just iam would prefer better build quality and the metal unbody of the note 3 tips it in its favor over the the sd card in terms of usage for me but houses for courses I like keeping my phone lite in terms of junk stored on phone as I have noticed slow down when it's full of files I don't need. Also I keep most of my media collection on a network hard drive which I can access via ftp as well if needed of course you need data too but when iam at home I can add and remove files and just take what I need. But if course people have there own preference
