Great price. I'd buy this over a GTX 980 any day. Similar performance, wattage & price but a smaller form factor. These recent price drops have really helped.

Very tempted!

Would avoid XFX like the plague, had issues with them before and their RMA procedure is a joke.

Had a 6850 that was artifacting when i purchased it, the retailer (overclockers) refused to take it back and said i need to take it up with XFX. The card was around £120 from OCUK and XFX's offer was £97 in credit on the XFX store, of which NONE of the GPU's they provided at the time were near that, in fact THE SAME gpu they did sell, and it was another £50, plus shipping BOTH WAYS. Ended up just shoving it in a box back to OCUK and doing a chargeback through my credit card provider.

All Fury Nano cards are exactly the same. Made by AMD and then XFX, sapphire, Asus etc put some stickers on them.

There's a reason XFX are cheap. I would recommend spending more for a proper brand.

After several months my 5870 developed an annoying issue where snowy white pixels would appear on videos -- it had something to do with video playback when the card was close to idle. They were prepared to give me £80 (i.e. less than half of what I paid) or a 6870 -- a card well known to be lower in performance to the 5870. Essentially, they're not willing to stand by their product fully -- I felt slightly like they were saying I should suck it up despite having paid £175 for the card at the time.

Honestly -- I don't want to be the one to say I told you so, but if you buy this just remember this thread for when it dies.

The Nano is a reference-only card. MSI/ASUS, etc, are all selling the same card with different stickers. Unless you're talking about RMA.

I think Sapphire make AMD's reference cards. I could be wrong though.

My understanding of 'reference card' is that the design is by AMD, but the cards are manufactured by the different makers. If that's not correct then that's certainly interesting.
johnstalvern
17 Jan 16 #8
Well, if that's true I'd say it's a specific arrangement only in place for this card -- as I said, my understanding is that the reference cards are rigid to the original design specs laid out by the chip manufacturers. I have never heard it used to mean that the cards were literally generic rebadges from a single manufacturer.

Yea that is what I understood it to be. Some brands such as sapphire will use better quality components too which can clock higher. When the R9 290 came out I got a gigabyte and it has rubbishy elipda ram

Awesome GPU. I had one of these before upgrading to a Fury X.
The memory HBM helps to create a CARD more efficient than the competition could imagine. Also games load much quicker due to how quickly the VRAM populates required data. Recent driver updates have this beating Nvidia 980 in performance too.
To top it off you only requires 1 x 8pin power connector!
Hot hot hot - but card runs cool, cool, cool.

see benchmarks (pre Crimson update that brought even more performance to Nano's performance than what can be seen in the vid)

Nano using more power than a 980 unless you mean compared to a 980 Ti which isn't in the same range now.

Absolutely no concrete evidence for this. There's nothing official about any delays.

The Drive PX2 will ship Pascal when it's released.

Until NVIDIA actually announce something new about Pascal it's all guesswork.
sam0
17 Jan 16 #15
I think they mean a brand which offers a 'proper' warranty and support.

If you can, wait before upgrading as NVIDIA's new Pascal architecture a few months away. Even if you're not interested in getting a Pascal card, other cards from both NVIDIA and AMD will drop in price.
Ferrari100
17 Jan 16 2 #16
Pascal GPU's are being held back while Nvidia promote their self-driving car initiative and may not arrive until the end of the year.
AMD's next gen Polaris is scheduled for release in time for back to school though (September). Around the same time the fiirst major AA DX12 title is released. Deus Mankind.
This will be significant for AMD to get the jump to 14nm fopr severasl reasons. Just one of which is the massive experience they already have using HBM compared to the competition (And they invented it anyway along with SKHynix)
But yes, of course GPU prices will drop for current GPUs as always happens. If you want now though this is quite simply the best on offerfor the performance available.
sam0
17 Jan 16 #18
Do you have a source for that? All the current estimates I can see are still Q2. I know Pascal will be featuring in Drive PX 2 but I can't see any reports of their desktop GPUs being delayed because of that.
Ferrari100
17 Jan 16 1 #19
I think the fact they lied to journalists telling them that PX-2 featured Pascal GPU's when in fact the had MAXWELL GPU's is telling.
Also I never said I was stating fact. It is a fair assumption. Especially as Nvidia would be shouting it from the roof-tops if they new Pascal was going to arrive before the Polaris architecture does.
At minimun it will arrive shortly after Polaris GPU's so Q3.
Another thing to consider is that although HBM memory is a JEDEC standard there is a clause that is rumoured to be AMD has dibs on the first production run (They co-invented it after all so it's fair enough). As Pascal high end are said to contain HBM 2.0 it will therefor naturally release after Polaris.

Amd has a great history of being first to the next nm tech but also being the best at the new nm but then nvidia does catch them quick with the follow up 2nd card. These cards are great for small builds but I wouldn't recommend to some one with a bigger case as u could pick up a 290x tri X for less than half the price but with similar fps or get the 3 series or spend the same money and get the fury and unlock it . Nice to see these come down In price as amd did price them at a ridicules price to start with.
Great card though and great design engineering from amd as they have always been extremely inventive over the decades and if they go broke it will be very very bad for the Indusrty

The post he made was in reference to the useless customer support from XFX which still stands as XFX will tell you where to get off when you want to make a warranty claim. That's the point and it's immaterial who actually makes the card. As far as I'm aware the warranty is with XFX as it's their sticker on the card.

17 Jan 16 1 #26
What OcUK mentioned on their forums about dealing with XFX warranties wasn't the full story, it's only for the first 28 days they will deal with it and offer a replacement or full refund, just like any other retailer would. After 28 days the retailer will just send it off to XFX for repair/replacement and then you could be waiting over 30 days for them to sort it. You should contact the retailer once it reaches this stage.

According to SOGA 1979, all repairs/replacements should be done within a reasonable amount of time, so in theory, all manufacturers/retailers should take a max of 28 days as per what trading standards have told me previously.

XFX warranty is still absolutely garbage. Stick with Gigabyte for AMD Graphics cards in terms of warranty as they are UK based. MSI are the next best, but the retailer ships them off to Holland, so take upto 14 days turnaround usually.

That's Overclockers for you, sent me out damaged case recently, tried their best to wash their hands of me, difficult and uncooperative to the end, luckily the case manufacturer are providing a replacement. No idea how they have such good reviews on review sites, they have abysmal customer service, this isn't the first time I've had problems them either. Only use them if I can't get a product at other retailers. Also, XFX have a terrible reputation with GPUs, wouldn't touch 'em.

Bought a motherboard from them once (Can't remember brand, but it was a LGA775 680i chipset board) it arrived loose in a plain brown box with the chipset heatsink snapped off and knocked off a load of the capacitors, and the socket cover was just not there which resulted in a ton of bent pins (it was obviously a used/returned/known broken board and not new), it took a week of back and forth emails (which was 2 emails FROM them and a dozen or so to them) for them to agree to refund me the money... if i sent it back at cost to me. After I did they even had the brass to ask me why it wasn't in it's proper box.

It's a shame the new AMD graphics cards don't have HDMI 2.0 so they can't do 4K @ 60Hz on a 4K TV that doesn't have DisplayPort for example.

I am aware of the existence of the Club3D DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 Active Adapter but it's just an added cost for something which should have been built in from day 1.

No, it's not better as native HDMI 2.0 being built into the graphics card PCB is objectively better and would not introduce any input lag that an active adapter could add.

I've had 2 xfx cards. both developed faults. 5830 had to be 'bent' upwards on one end to work. Xfx didn't want to know. I eventually opened the card up and there were screws missing inside !!
stupidly bought another xfx as it was a good deal. 7870 Tahiti. constantly crashes the display driver (tried on different PCs) or screen flashes and locks up PC (just after 1 yr from purchase). only works properly once warmed up, which is very strange.
no more xfx for me!!!

I cannot understand how you are so comfortable lying to everyone.

This is a bold claim. Prove it with a credible source, or stop misinforming everyone.
Nate1492
18 Jan 16 #47
Really? You are making the claim that games load quicker because of HBM? I'm going to ask for a source/proof. I know you are unlikely to provide it, so I will just reply.

Game load times are almost entirely based on Hard Disk read speeds. The RAM, by far and away, is the fastest part of this process.

Look, HBM has plenty of upsides. It offers great bandwidth. This is really good for 4k gaming.

But you talk about game load times. No, HBM doesn't have a big impact on it.
Ferrari100
18 Jan 16 #48
Hey fan boy, I have it would I know full well.
HBM has many benefits you fan boys don't know about. But it's really, ask any one who has it already and stop being ignorant.
If you already have an SSD you Will notice the difference with HBM. You won't witness it until Pascal arrives and I doubt very much you will accept I am right but it is true so deal with it.
Ferrari100
18 Jan 16 #49
So you are advised vacating people paying extra for something they might not want anyway. Good one
Nate1492
18 Jan 16 #50
So, you have zero evidence. As expected, the only reply you have is to attempt to insult.

HBM does not noticeably change game load times. End of story.
Ferrari100
18 Jan 16 #51
The fact you have no idea HBM has nearly 10 x the amount of lanes to shift data does not surprise.
Therefor it does not surprise if you cannot comprehend that if this data is moved in parralel say even by four times it will reduce the amount of time taken to populate the required data by 4 x. Even two times halves the amount of time take.
Anybody experienced in running GTA5 with and without it will know what I am talking about.
Geez dude, How much are Nvidia paying you to defend them all the time??
If you don't know what you are talking about keep quiet fan boy.
Also, unless you can afford high end Pascal you can kiss goodbye to experiencing it year anyway. Meanwhile AMD Fury/Nano owners havebeen enjoying its benefits for a while now.
Nate1492 to Ferrari100
18 Jan 16 #52
I absolutely know HBM has 10x the memory bandwidth. It's a great technology advancement for many reasons.

But what it doesn't do is make video games load noticeably faster. Surely, if it did, you could find one piece of evidence to back your claim.
rev6 to Ferrari100
18 Jan 16 #53

GDDR5 isn't a bottleneck here. It's mostly drive speed that impacts game load time.

There are no differences in load times. You really are getting quite desperate now. AMD has never claimed that loading times were improved with HBM. Because they aren't. And yes, I have experienced HBM. Both with single card and for a short while in CrossFire too.
