You may well have never heard of these, but please read on to find out just how good these are AND what a great price these are! You will never want to go back to regular dinnerware once you have owned and used these!

These dinner sets are quite simply amazing and probably the best in the world. They come in many different shapes, sizes and designs and are chip, break, crack, stain, fade and scratch resistant. We used these many times when staying in villas in Florida over the years and decided we simply had to buy some for back home. Made in the USA, Americans pass these dinner sets down to their children as they are so fondly looked upon in the US.

They are microwave, oven, dishwasher, fridge and freezer safe. Yes, you can happily re-heat food on them directly in the oven!

We bought 3 sets way back in 2008 that are still absolutely new looking even today. I've just had a good look at some of our plates and they really could easily be placed back into their original packaging and sold as brand new as they are totally in as new condition - no scratches, chips, cracks, stains and still have their lovely glossy look to them. They are quite simply superb!

They have 20% off everything throughout their site, but some items are already reduced so are really cheap, such as this Mandarin Flower 16 piece set. This set is £105 on Amazon at the moment. I've ordered 2 sets for £95.98 with free delivery.

These are really hard to break - I'll include some links to videos on Youtube to show you. Yes, sure they can break but still not easy. We have all of ours still intact after almost 9 years with absolutely ZERO sign of wear. My wife once slammed a full plate down onto the kitchen floor during an argument - it was rather funny to see that not only did the plate not break, but it actually bounced upwards and splattered most of the food onto her legs! The dramatic effect she was looking for didn't happen lol!

You can also buy other (quite often matching) items such as oven dishes, casserole dishes, kettles etc. Explore the site for the full range.

The official gumpf;

Corelle is the unique Tableware that was introduced in the USA in 1970, and quickly became one of America’s leading brands of everyday dinnerware sets. Corelle’s popularity has since grown worldwide because it offers a unique combination of good looks and durability, and due to it's resistance to breaking it is especially appealing in busy households with children.

Corelle’s durability is due to its unique sandwich construction which bonds together three layers of a unique glass material called Vitrelle. Only Corelle dinnerware is made of this amazing material that results in a lightweight dinnerware set that resists breaking, cracking, chipping, and permanent staining.

Corelle crockery sets are also designed for easy handling and compact storage. For kitchens with limited storage, it nests neatly and efficiently. All Corelle dinner sets can also be used to reheat food in the microwave and oven and are dishwasher safe.

Many Corelle dinnerware sets designs are developed especially for the Asian market. Whilst the base glass is manufactured in USA, the Asia designs are applied at World Kitchen’s Malaysia decorating plant. The special application method fuses the patterns into the base glass. The designs are therefore long lasting and will not fade, even after years of use.

Features and Benefits

Everybody has their own sense of style. Which is why we offer our Corelle dinnerware in so many different patterns and shapes. But one thing everybody agrees on is durability. Dinnerware needs to last. We use a unique material called Vitrelle , which gives our plates and bowls that legendary Corelle durability. It also gives them a number of other benefits that other brands can't offer. Our glass dinnerware is designed to make an impact and take one. Our patterns are inspired by the latest trends in fashion and home décor, delivering a variety of styles that will make a statement in any household. Every piece of Corelle glass dinnerware is break- and chip-resistant, making it perfect for everyday dining and entertaining… proving once again that beauty can be tough.

REVOLUTIONARY MATERIAL-Corelle’s durability is due to its unique sandwich construction which bonds together three layers of special glass materials. The result is lightweight dinnerware that resists breaking, cracking, chipping, scratching and permanent staining.

THIN AND LIGHTWEIGHT-Wafer thin and easy to store, Corelle is designed for easy handling and compact storage. It is ideal for kitchens with space constraints.

HYGENIC-Its non-porous glass surface doesn’t retain food odours and particles, doesn’t stain and is easy to wash.

DISHWASHER AND MICROWAVE SAFE-Corelle is adaptable to all modern appliances like the microwave oven and dishwasher, thus shortens your preparation, cooking and washing time.

ATTRACTIVE SHAPES AND DESIGNS-A wide selection of attractive patterns and shapes from traditional to contemporary to express your personal style as well as all dinning occasions.

Yes, I joined over 4 years ago and have stealthily been biding my time, posting loads of other deals to throw people off my scent, just for this moment to reveal my real agenda! I'm a kind of ninja lone wolf poster for World Kitchen....................................

No, I've no involvement with the seller at all, other than I've ordered myself before and again yesterday. I just feel passionate about these and want to get as many people aware of them too as they're simply superb yet hardly anybody in the UK know about them.

Initially impressed. One mug smashed yesterday, understandable as not same material as plates etc but a plate has a chip out of it today I noticed so not happy with that. Will contact them next week as no idea how that happened.

Quick email to them yesterday and a new plate is being sent out. They haven't even asked the old one to be returned. Great customer service!

My order arrived today and WOW, I love them !!! Packed brilliant. Ordered a pattern and the plain white plates and a mixture of bowls. So light, elegant, but very strong, yes I dropped one to test. All good. I couldn't believe how heavy my Argos plates and bowls were. They all out now ready for the charity shop. Thank you so much Phila4 for the info on these, never heard of them before. They are brilliant, I will be ordering more to add to my bits.

Thanks, luckily my wife preferred scribble too. Really liked the wavy line one best but a lot more expensive and really pleased with the Scribble anyway. Cheers.

5 Jan 16 #75
When we bought our original sets about 8 years ago, it was a toss up between the Kobe design and the scribble ones you have bought. We (or maybe I should say the wife) decided on the Kobe - I still prefer the scribble!

As you'll see, both designs are still available and I believe the scribble is very popular so there's a good chance they'll keep making them for some time to come.

You'll probably get regular emails from them which will tell of any sales. If you don't, just go on to the site and sign up for newsletters. Welcome to the Corelle club!

Thanks for confirmation, and again for the deal too. Yes, thought it may have to do with the fireing, makes sense. Got an email saying two days left of sale, tempted to get some more, but hopefully will have another sale and pattern is still available in the future.

Thanks. Mine turned up today and look exactly the same. I thought, hmm, don't remember our original ones we bought 8 years or so ago looking like that, so just took a look at them - yep, exactly the same with our 8 year old ones.

So quite normal. I guess there will be slight variances as whilst not hand made, they probably change a little in the heating/cooling processes when made. Compared to our old dinner ware they stack much better and of course take up a lot less room. Just make sure you wash them as they have a protective coating on them.

Basically the plates and bowls don't quite line up, look almost handmade. Bowls probably worse, but not a big problem, just wondered if others were similar in design.
sidesey
5 Jan 16 #67
Just got mine, plates and bowls are all slightly different shapes, is that normal? Not too fussed, as long as they last as well, as everyone says they will. Thanks. Shame mugs are porcelain, but I guess with the manufacturing process it is not possible to make them the same was as the rest of the set.

Look really good, better than pictures. I'm off to a Greek wedding now, just to see if they will actually smash. :stuck_out_tongue:

I heard this stuff is liable to explode in the oven, not the same quality as the corningware of old. Any comments from people who own the plates?
RogerN to e_munky
2 Jan 16 1 #47
Untrue for convection oven. But if you microwave an empty plate it may explode, possibly after you remove it from the oven! So, if you want to warm plates that way put couple tbsps water on them and between them in a stack. Oh, and these plates seem more transparent to microwaves, so food in them heats up quicker = less time/power rqd
RogerN
2 Jan 16 #46
Certainly good stuff, we have two sets. Check size of what you are ordering carefully before you buy, illustrated bowls are small you may want to hunt down their Noodle Bowls, significantly bigger. Dinner plates are a decent size, lunch plates are like a large side plate....

Not the 'square round' ones - the simple round ones are cheaper than the square round ones everywhere. I don't know why, they just are.
plaquey
2 Jan 16 #33
Fantastic quality, fit like a dream in the dishwasher and very lightweight. Do the square plates fit as well as the round in the dishwasher?

My only gripe is that when they do break, they shatter into a gazillion pieces - literally shards of glass everywhere. It's something to do with stress over time? Has happened once when I took a bowl out and the bottom fell out. Also after heating dinner up in the microwave my plate broke into two.

Having said this I've been waiting for ages now for sets to be reduced but no joy. And yes, they're much cheaper in the US!
Phila4 to plaquey
2 Jan 16 1 #38
We prefer the square plates to round. Yes they fit perfectly in the dishwasher, either straight in or at an angle with the corner pointing down.

As for breaking, I did read somewhere that sometimes they can break if they have been dropped or bashed around before in the past. With time, having been put under these stresses, they can break if they are dropped again, but not always. All I know is that after 8 years of owning 3 sets of these, and having dropped plates/bowls at least a couple of dozen times (Lord knows how many times the kids may have dropped them without us knowing!), including at least twice on concrete in the garden, none have cracked, chipped or broken at all.

Phila4 to bytemaster
2 Jan 16 #31
They don't feel anything like glass. They also do not screech like normal plates when you eat - another great thing about them as I absolutely HATE people dragging and scraping their knives and forks across plates - it sends shivers down my spine, goes right through me and I have been known to get up and leave restaurants mid-meal if I keep hearing it.

why are the mugs stoneware?
Phila4 to spd x 2
1 Jan 16 #29
I think because of the way they're made. If you look at the video showing how they're made I'm guessing because of the design they can't be moulded in the same way. But TBH I don't know but have always wondered too.
Phila4
1 Jan 16 #28
Brilliant for kids as lightweight and if they do drop them it's very unlikely to break or chip. Once you get some, you'll understand why they're so good.

Phila4 to dudebar
1 Jan 16 1 #25
As I stated earlier, cheapest in the US is likely to be Walmart - and at the moment the set posted works out around £40. Shipping would likely be £40 to £60 on top due to weight. These prices are super cheap here - much less than Amazon, Tesco and Argos where I was surprised to find they sell them.

I'm a bloke and have no interest in cookware/plates but the wife got these and I have to say I can see what the fuss is about, the fact they're probably 1/3rd the weight of plates means my cupboards aren't heavily loaded and are much easier to store, clean, stack in dishwasher and all that.
Phila4 to spannerzone
1 Jan 16 #20
Yep - that's just some of the benefits, especially about storing them and the dishwasher. And me too - I don't care about anything in the kitchen, in fact I don't really know much about what happens in the kitchen (it's a mystical place to me!) but these dinner sets and baking items are simply superb. It's not often things live up to their name, but these certainly do. We've bought two sets of these on offer to make a change to the Kobe - but we'll use both.
spannerzone
1 Jan 16 #14
We got some of the plain white, annoyingly I did chip the edge of a plate the first time I put it in the cupboard, I managed to knock a regular (non Corelle) slightly against the edge and it chipped off a splinter of Corelle glass/ceramic making the plate dangerous on the sharp edge.

Otherwise they are very good, very light and durable and stack up very nicely and don't take up anywhere near as much space are regular plates/dishes etc.
Phila4 to spannerzone
1 Jan 16 1 #18
Yes it is possible to break or chip them, but very difficult. I remember when we threw out all of our old dinner sets about 75% were either chipped or cracked. And the problem with regular dinner sets is that you probably can't replace any items as they don't make endless amounts of them for years to come - whereas Corelle still sell the Kobe ones we bought 7 or 8 years ago either in a set or per piece - luckily we don't need to replace any though!
Phila4
1 Jan 16 1 #17
Cheers for that - maybe I should be though lol!

Phila4 to rjcoolio
1 Jan 16 #16
No of course not - see my hundred plus previous deals, all from different places!

I know it sounds like it, but I just feel these are so fantastic and better than anything else available anywhere that I really want people to realise these aren't 'just' plates. If I'd never stayed in Florida villas I'd never have known about them.

In the US these are a staple wedding gift - you simply do not buy anything other than Corelle and CorningWare products!

And so easy to clean too! My wife loves them - which was surprising in a way as I bought her the sets for Xmas 7 years or so ago. The look on her face when she opened them was priceless - it was as though I'd bought her a chain to shackle her to the kitchen sink! We threw out all of our old plates and dishes once we bought Corelle as there was no point in keeping them as many had cracks and chips.
Phila4
1 Jan 16 #8
I'd also add that we must have dropped or knocked off plates and bowls onto the floor at least a couple of dozen times since we bought ours. Not one crack, chip or break. We've even dropped at least two outside onto the concrete patio - no break or damage whatsoever!

1 Jan 16 #7
Oh I never knew Costco sell them here. The joke is that we've been to the US so many times and have always forgotten to look out for them! At the moment the posted dinner set works out to about £40 if bought in Walmart, so to get them for £47 here is brilliant.

I agree - I can vouch for these too and cannot recommend them highly enough - and I'm a guy! Here's a good video about the CorningWare;

From the freezer, to the oven, to the table.
Phila4
1 Jan 16 #3
The 'CorningWare' casserole and oven dishes are amazing too - you can put them straight from the freezer into a microwave or regular oven as is!

Often you can buy matching items with these and the dinner sets.

"CORNINGWARE cookware provides un-equaled convenience and versatility as it can be used in the oven, microwave, stovetop, griller, BBQ, refrigerator and freezer as well as on the table.

CORNINGWARE is also the ideal casserole dish because it retains heat much longer. This means that you can use a much lower heat setting on the stovetop. Cooking will continue even after the gas has been turned off, resulting in lower gas costs. For fast, healthy meals, CORNINGWARE is equally at home in the microwave.

CORNINGWARE is easy to clean and will not retain food odours unlike some metals and plastic. It is available in a range of convenient sizes and shapes. All CORNINGWARE cookware sets bases have a ten year warranty against breakage from hot and cold temperatures. So start cooking with CORNINGWARE and discover why it has established its reputation for versatility and convenience."
