I bought my Smart Ultra 6 back in September when Vodafone first dropped its price to £99. I remember at the time thinking maybe I ought to hold off until Black Friday or Christmas just in case something better/cheaper comes along.
Well here we are in January and TBH I don't think anything ever did come along to challenge the SU6 in terms of value for money. Is this phone perfect? No. Are there better phones out there? Yes. However if like me, you just want a half decent phone with 4G, a reasonably fast chip set, a good display and a proper UK warranty for not a lot of money, then you can't go far wrong with the SU6.

Unbelievable. Just tried to open the sim cover and bit of the phone has actually snapped off !!
Just be careful, the cheaper ones are from China and a month until delivery, the local ones more expensive. I'll let you choose which you prefer.

Got my brother one of these and the only comment i'd make on it is that the screen was disappointing to my eyes. Resolution is excellent, better than my Galaxy S5 due to not being pentile, but the black level and contrast was pretty bad i felt at every brightness level above 5%. It makes the screen look washed out and dull. My old first gen Moto G looks nicer with much deeper blacks and punchy colours. Everything else about it is as promised tho.
You might like to try these 2 budget additions if you're into covering up a phone. Cheapest i could find anyway. Clear Gel Case Tempered glass screen

whats the battery life like? I need something that doesn't need charging half way through the day when its not even been used much for the hours its been on (I'm looking at YOU s3!)

Regarding the double tap issue, I was frustrated when it was only half working, but then I read that if you actually pick the phone up, it should work all the time, but if you're double tapping if the phone is on a table or solid object that's when it fails to register sometimes.

All but 2 of the Vodafone apps that come preinstalled can be removed, the 2 that can't can be disabled. It's virtually pure then, compared to other carriers handsets.
Those that dislike the camera (it's fine for me) seem to install this app as an alternative.

Same question I have.. pay the extra for the moto x? I've one on order for the wife. Now on the hunt for something to replace my moto g 1st gen.
Edit: Actually thinking about it. I'm still more inclined to pay the extra and go with the X or the 3rd Gen (16Gb/RGb RAM) model. Main reason, Moto offer a pure Android experience without any bloatware. (Less chance of things crashing and such, apps more likely to be available on the motos IMO) The moto's are unlocked already. Both at the £169 mark ... So around £54 diff .. consideration needs to be taken for any unlock codes if needed for the vodo. Still it is £50odd more  .. Dilemmas aargh!

Bought one for wife for Xmas.2 .50 for unlock code in 30 mins via eBay.Once friends took a look both bought 1 each coming from I phone 5 .Ive owned a galaxy s6 edge plus since Nov widely regarded as one of the best smartphone. All I can say is I've sold the edge plus bought another ultra 6 and banked 350 after purchase. Obviously you can't compare a 600 quid phone to a 115 one but to all possible buyers .....do I miss the edge plus....in a word .NO.

In terms of the performance of the phone i've never felt it was laggy at all i do have ccleaner on the phone that clears the temporary garbage everyday so on that side i've never had a problem with it, unfortunately mine has 2 issues now and when my new phone arrives (Xperia C5 Ultra) this one is getting returned for a refund because the phone has lost all cell phone reception it just doesn't work, i've tried loads of different networks in it and the micro usb is a massive weak spot i've had mine 5 months and its already broken. I have to balance the charger in it lol. I would still recommend the phone to people because signal can break on any phone.

I came from an Iphone 5 it was getting too slow and would not get updates soonish so thought I would give this a go as I wanted a 5.5 inch screen the only other option at the time was a note 4 loads more money i didnt want a mtek or whatever cpu wanted snap dragon. living with the 5.0 android software was atrocious really annoyed me too much slow down was going to drop £600 on a samsung edge plus but then 5.1 finally came out and it has made the phone properly usable. Camera is rubbish always grab my missus iphone 6 plus for pics as they always blur on the su6. but for now this will do until a second hand note 4 pops up

Had this phone since September 2015 - it's still lightning quick as the day I bought it, and the battery life is astounding. My thoughts on the camera are pretty much the same as what others have mentioned; generally ok, not so great in poor lighting indoors. That's the only let down for me. The double tap to wake function works every time IF you double tap the home button. Spell checker didn't work for me previously but the bug was fixed in the last update, much to my relief (I'm pretty sure I'm dyslexic...).
Would fully recommend this phone - great screen, great battery life, and it never slows down.

The camera can def give excellent pictures but as i said, in lower light/indoors it does seem to struggle sometimes with auto focus, some of the pics using flash have been terrible. It would be easier if it had a fixed focus option. As you say it depends on previous experience, but the flash pics i've tried have not been good.

I think what you think of the SU6 camera depends on where you have come from. I previously had a 1st generation Moto G with a 5MP camera. Compared to that, the 13MP SU6 camera is brilliant! Some of the little 1080p movie clips I've taken on holiday look very detailed and sharp (especially when played back on a TV). If on the otherhand you're dropping down from an iPhone, you would probably be more critical of the camera. Zoom is useless but as I understand things, this is true for all camera phones.
Other issues? The sound is slightly on the tinny side but if like me, you play music through Bluetooth, then it's not really a problem. It's also a bit on the big side but for me, that's a plus because I tend to use my phone more as an alternative to my Nexus 7 tablet when I'm out and about.
Overall I'm really pleased with the SU6. I sang its praises to both my sister-in-law and brother-in-law and both of them bought one. Both are similarly pleased.
Another update since the review is the fact you cant close all apps at once in the task manager like you can in other phones. And there is no battery % indicator - need a 3rd party app for that. Minor points I know

Camera is fine outdoors but struggles to focus in lower light. The double tap to wake function doesn't work with any consistency. The power button could do with being above the volume keys. Had it 6 months, as others have said, still nothing to touch it for price.
