Nothing spectacular but not bad as a first phone or a back up phone for the money. 99p for an unlock code from eBay.

An affordable introduction to the world of Smartphones, the Vodafone Smart first 6 is easy to use and has all the features you'd expect from a Smartphone - at a price you wouldn't.
Smart but simple
Designed specifically to be easy to use, the Smart first 6 has a simple home screen with all the features you need. You're only ever one tap away from making a call, sending a text or email, taking a photo or browsing the web.
Stay connected
The Smart first 6 comes with Facebook and Twitter already installed - so you can update your status, catch up with the latest gossip and stay in touch with all your friends and family, straight out of the box.
Access to thousands of apps
The Smart first 6 runs Android - the world's most popular operating system - which gives you access to thousands of apps through the Google Play Store. So whether you're a fan of games, social media, music or movies, there's an app for everyone.
Why Vodafone?
Our outstanding network gives you excellent UK coverage for calls, texts and mobile broadband - indoors and out. We build our network so that signals from our masts overlap each other. It means you get fewer dropped calls and better mobile broadband. We focus on giving you a strong signal indoors and outside - unlike some operators who concentrate on spreading their signal over the widest area. We're the network of choice for many of the UK's emergency services. Ambulance, police and fire services know they can rely on us. We make sure you get the fastest service possible - even at the busiest times of the day - thanks to the extra capacity we build into our network.
Odd that. I'm using this for outdoor pursuits because it doesn't matter if I trash it and it doesn't realise that it is not a smart phone. It runs all the map apps, has a good GPS sensor, runs the BBC iPlayer and radio player, backed by a very good FM radio, doubles up as a sat Nav in the car, does the email and message apps, tells me the weather and warns if it is going to rain, gives me full access to the internet and google, communicates by bluetooth to the diagnostic port of my car and it even allows me to make and receive phone calls with excellent clear reception. Not bad for a dumb phone.
Aaaargh, what size sim is it supposed to take? Sainsbury say nano, Tesco's say micro, even Vodaphone say standard and then micro. The recess seems to imply a standard sim. Also tiny bit of film over the camera lens, otherwise pics even more blurry if not removed.

We fabricate and erect steel frame buildings, play with concrete, diggers etc. so anything gets a tough life, for us, they are a tool not a plaything to use on the train to work.

Yeah, not sure about the new Microsoft handsets, but the Nokia lumias are known to be excellent build quality, and are pretty robust. Both the Nokia's I have had have both been dropped a few times without any damage to the screen.

Thanks for that, personally I can't be ars*d with 1000's of apps for apps sake.
Boss has older Nokia 635(?) Windows phone and it's lasted well over a year in rough use, until he damaged the screen, it still works.
What is 'Vodaphone'?
Cheap is good for a basic Android phone and others have already mentioned what the phone is capable of doing, most features I didn't know were possible, especially the one where you can bluetooth pair the device with your car OBD diagnostics. 1Ghz/512mb RAM is enough for 4.4 basic needs. Don't be expecting better features for £20. £10-£20 more won't get you a much better phone anyway.

My old £40 Nokia has lasted 5yrs being used payg on construction sites.
The plastic screen is now cracked, it's full of dust so camera is no longer usable.
I only use a mobile for work, go for this or wait for a Doogee? Money is not that critical.
Any phone experts like to comment on what is best vfm, don't need anything flash, phone/text and potentially bit of data for light use with work related email/browsing.
p.s. young'uns at work have given up on iphones and S 5's, they break just as easily, and opted for the Elephone P8, because it's cheaper to buy a new phone rather than repair a broken screen on an expensive one.

For your needs, you are probably better off with Windows phone. You can pick up a Microsoft Lumia 435 for not much more. Smaller app store, but more intuitive UI, and it will run much smoother than a cheap Android handset.

Call that smart? unless it makes the tea, vacuums the house and predicts the lottery numbers it clearly is not smart. Any idiot can plainly see that!
Bought the pixi yesterday from CPW and called EE to transfer my £20 credit to my data sim. Now I have 10£ credit on the phone and 200GB data for my iPad and 2 new unlocked phones. Just be nice when you call ee technical dept and they will do instantly.

Half a gig of ram, I'm not sure its worth saving money to buy this, unless for a child or someone that just calls and texts, then its probably fine. Although if calling and texting you'd be better getting a non smart phone and the battery life will be amazing.

Are you sure it can be bought without top up via "Fast-Track"?

Also Tesco Direct, white or black £20 no top up required. It's a surprisingly good phone for the money, just 99p to unlock and the Vodafone apps can be deleted leaving it effectively unbranded android.
