Noticed lots of LEGO on sale tonight at ASDA. General Grievous down from £24.99 to £10.99 (Obi Wan etc down to around £12). The majority of old series 2 Micro Fighters are down to £4.50 & £5 (purchased the Snowspeeder!). 76025 DC Universe Justice League vs Sinestro is down from from £19.97 to £12. A few Ninjago are also down from £20 to £12. 31033 creator set is down from £17.99 to £9.97. The one I went for because it reminds me of the old Technic 80's Go Kart is 31030, down from £9.97 to £5.83. Bargain!

Parents can say "no". Parents do not have to buy these goods. There is no coercion on the part of the supermarkets. If people are willing to pay the price sought at a given time, the goods are worth that much. There is nothing criminal about it.

Slightly annoying how these supermarkets basically steal all the parents money before xmas, then offer the items at a reduced price. Criminal

Are you so naive to think that shops should sell off their toy stock cheaply for the busiest time of the year for selling toys? What you should be doing is picking up bargains this time of year for Christmas presents next year

If you teach your child how the world should work 1st and how it does work 2nd, then you can expect a life of outrage. Like the vast majority of people here, we understand that things change in perceived value and become better or worse opportunities. You, as may your child benefit in the future from understanding this.

Why don't you keep your receipt from the one before Xmas then purchase it at the cheaper price then return it with the receipt from before Xmas full refund for items purchased at discount prices

No it's called business, January sales to drive the down period in sales and makes way for all the stuff you'll buy next year because you wouldn't be these next year and the storage costs would make them lose money

I'd be surprised if there are many substantial discounts on them just yet. The film hit the screens just two weeks ago so surely retailers would want to capitalise on revenue opportunities from merchandising.
I'd imagine these discounts are for clearance so they have room to stock the upcoming 2016 sets.

Not much left in stores near me. Scooby Doo lighthouse was reduced from £39.99 to £25.97 but sadly the ticket on the shelf was all that was left by the time I got there :disappointed:. Grievous was £21.97. The police prison truck was a good price for £13.48 (was £17.99) and Speed cars (Porsche and Ferrari) from £12.99 to £8.43. Excavator and Truck were £26.23 (from £34.99) and picked up a police chase from £19.99 to £14.99.

It's store specific as my local superstore in Rossendale has not got Lego on sale now.

I don't think the storage costs are the main problem. I'd say the bigger problem is when old and possibly less desirable inventory occupies space that could prevent a retailer from taking on new, more lucrative and more sought-after inventory, hence the term "clearance sale".

I'm not stupid. I know what you are saying. I know it is business, but it is cruel when some parents have spent £400 yesterday when they could have spent £200 today

Depending in the age of the kids. Spend £100 now for next year, then£200 later. Still save £100 but get £400 of stuff, while keeping in trend.

Exactly how does it constitute cruelty? This is nothing like a family buying a puppy for Christmas and abandoning it shortly after or leaving it in squalid conditions without food and water. Try to get some perspective about what is "cruel".
For goods to become significantly less expensive a short period later isn't something that happened overnight. This has been going on for decades. As I said before, parents don't need to buy these goods in the first place and the supermarkets aren't forcing them to buy them. Parents aren't in a captive market that's subject to price gouging either so I see nothing cruel, immoral or otherwise wrong about these huge price drops or the fact that the goods were more expensive in the first place.
