Thanks for the update

Should anyone wish to have this TV in 2D, print out the following image. Hey presto, a 2D TV!

P.S - I cannot guarantee this 2D model will switch on and display images other than that which it is printed with.

I can confirm that Toshiba Active Shutter Bluetooth 3D TV Glasses FPT-AG04G do work! (Thanks sandra51)
But in the 3D menu you must change the 3D settings to the right type (side by side or top bottom) and also change right/left to left/right... that last step is key! And why some people have been wearing 3D glasses upside down when there is no need to.

I have this and 3d works class! My 3d bluray collection is growing waiting on gravity and turtles tale just for the pop out 3d. Watched everest, predator, minions and transformers in 3d and worked great

I have this tv... 4k is great.. I use the netflix app on the tv.. Remote has a dedicated netflix button which is very handy.
3d is amazing i have the FPT-AG04G glasses you can get on ebay for about £13 for 2 active glasses. The glasses do work but make sure auto is on in the 3d settings, i only use 3d blurays. I have watched predator 3d, minions 3d, everest 3d and transformers 3d.. All work great although these aren't the best movies for pop out 3d, depth is amazing though especially on Everest. I use xbox one for my blurays and the tv knows when it changes to 3d and fixes the screen then you just press the button on top of the glasses and your all set.. If it looks blurry change the 3d settings from left/right to right/left.. If for any reason the 3d loses sync then it won't work and just reset the tv. There's a 2d to 3d conversion which works not bad along with the depth settings.. I've read all the reviews for this tv and its great, all hdmi ports are 1.4 which can be changed to 2.0 for 4k content just goto settings and change each port to enhanced.
Sound sucks but some moving around with the settings can make it worthy
Can't go wrong with this tv, 3d and 4k? And people are bitching about not getting the 3d glasses with it? Its a great price for everything you get including 3.0 usb.. Mkv playback.

I have just received 2 pairs of Toshiba Active Shutter Bluetooth 3D TV Glasses FPT-AG04G from a seller on eBay for £13.47 delivered.

They are very light and if you have young children I would keep them away from them as I do not think they would stand up to much rough handling but they seem perfectly OK to me and work well with this TV.

Some would argue it's corporate suicide for a (previously) respected manuacturer to allow its reputation to be tarnished by putting its badge on low-end product - this certainly applies to Panasonic which is using the same source as Tosh for its low-end TV Panachronic models.

my blu ray player has amazon video app though, it just has a very poor wifi signal, that tents to never connect or randomly drop off, so i thought great a smart tv with built in wifi...handy for the amazon video- the tv i replaced was a panasonic 47" freeview hd, so i feel like for £399 i gained 1" of screen and at uhd, doesn't seem like much of a bargain anymore as i still need to rely on the blu ray player for amazon video :disappointed:

They may do a firmware update at a later date that would add more apps but you could get an android box of one type or another, I bought an Amazon 4K Fire TV Box a few weeks back when they dropped to just under £65 and installed a few standalone apps on it alongside the ones that you can subscribe to if you want to and I also put KODI on it for lots of other stuff

My only gripe after receiving mine today and setting it up is that the standby/on led is too big and too bright and I wonder why it needs to be on at all when the TV is switched on as you can tell it is on because there will be a picture on the TV and being a very bright green it is a little distracting.

I have stuck some black insulation tape over 90% of it so that I can just see a small part of it when it is either in standby and showing red or is on and showing green.

same here it seems over the top and i was looking online to see if theres a way to turn it off, but after two days of use starting to not notice it, my gripe is the lack of apps in the smart function, no amazon video, or more 4, all the apps it has just seem completely useless and unheard of any help from anyone on at least how to get amazon video on there as i thought it would be useful with the built in wifi, if theres no chance of that i cant even think why i bothered to get a smart tv with wifi as i have sky!
If theres a cheaper decent 48" or bigger tv without the smart function or wifi for the same price might just take it back

Bought this telly a few weeks ago and think it is an absolute bargain. 4k and full HD pics are great quality and only flaw I have noticed is banding is visible on the screen when panning whilst watching footie. Have plugged my stereo into the TV and with soundbar sounds great. 3D works a treat and Toshiba Active Shutter glasses bought from Amazon seem to work the right way around for me. Smart TV aspect is workmanlike but use Amazon Fire TV anyway. To sum up, great with external sources but budget panel deficiencies do show up when watching motion on full screen Freeview TV. Still great value for money though

I took back a Philips 40PUT6400 previously bought via Hotdeals thread as was a bit buggy and locked up a few times. Also found blacks very smeary. Took all processing off and still an issue. 48 hours in with Toshiba/vestel and have to say it's a brilliant set. I've connected Chromecast 2015 to it and it's just brilliant. 4k and 1080p is brilliant. The native YouTube app supports 4k. As people have said in previously no smart tv is truly smart but Chromecast gives you upgradeability for £20-30. Pleased as punch.

I have been watching 4K content off YouTube earlier this evening and it is absolutely amazing. The 4K underwater clips had so much depth and detail to them that they looked like the "Under the reef Imax 3D" documentary does on my projector, even though the 4K clips are only in 2D.

I am surprised at how the SD looks acceptable on it too as I was worried that it would be as poor as the people who have probably never seen one working had said it was going to be, just because it was probably a Vestel TV and not a Samsung, or other overpriced by comparison TV.

It says ultra Hd on spec but it does not say 4K tv ?
bobo53 to dunky1966
21 Jan 16 #72
and that is correct. Technically, 4k should be related to tv's which can show a true screen res. of 4096x2160. From my point of view would be a nicer bonus if they start to build them as standard as the cinematic films would have more space to cover on the screen (21:9), better for pc use to. But all [email protected]:9 would show small side bars unless stretched which visually would not be noticed I think
soldierboy001 to dunky1966
21 Jan 16 #76
The reason it does not say 4K is because that is an old description, to standardise all descriptions of TV's the relevant body decided that all TV's giving 4K resolution will be described as UHD. Go look it up.
P.S. as asked before no TV can upscale to true 4K from SD or HD.

We are on the sniff for a new TV. Big netflix fans, so I guess we need a smart TV for that , or am I wrong ?

I read things like "you want a TV where black is black" not sure what this means?
And "you need 3 HDMI minimum, more the merrier"
And "a tv that is 5ms or better" another one I read a lot.

So is there a TV out there, that does the above ? I guess there is, but I am scared that the answer is "Yes, and its £5000"... GULP !!

Also, LED or LCD, what the hecks the difference ? HELP

LED is the light source that illuminates the newer LCD TV's that were formerly illuminated by CCFL tubes. This allows for the sets to be a lot slimmer. So all sets that say LED are in fact LCD. OLED on the other hand are different again, Google it and learn.

Read #16 above this set whilst supposed to be a 3D set with glasses supplied has no glasses from Argos and for this reason have changed the description to leave out 3D. People who have complained have been sent glasses but it appears that you have to wear them upside down and only certain types of active glasses are compatible. These sets are not made by Toshiba who stooped making TV's a couple of years ago and don't wish to be bothered with any complaints about their so called TV's, they licence out the use of their name the same as some other well known brands do, another notable name to do this is Blaupunkt.

Every one who is interested in this tv.
Go and buy it, take it home, remove it gently do not open any bags with batteries, manuals etc.
Turn tv on, connect it to the source that you will be using it the most and see what quality of image are you getting.
Now that you had a play with it, put it back gently to the carboard box and take it back to Argos (which btw don't accept returns on TV's - been told like that when took my one back the next day, managed to convince manager that the tv is rubbish, not a Toshiba, smart is not smart etc).
And keep on looking for better quality LG or Samsung tv.

BTW any of You want to buy that tv just because it has 4k?
Any of you ever watched 4k?
Which broadcaster is offering 4k tv at the moment?
How many movies are in 4k on Netflix?
For that size is it not better to spent the same amount of money for a good quality LG , Samsung, Sony?

Very good deal.
Vestel panels are very good indeed, not rubbish as stated by others who do not own one,

I own a Digihome TV with Vestel Panel. In my opinion, the pictures are better than some of the high end TVs (note: you need to adjust the picture settings) and get excellent picture.

No, the ones who say Vestel panels are rubbish are the ones who experienced this first hand, otherwise how would they know?

Well I guess you own a Digihome TV and that says all about you being able to distinguish between a rubbish and good TV quality, a 4K and non-4K picture, and so on.

This TV or other Vestel panel TV's won't give you a true 4K experience. Enjoy the few quid you saved.

"will probably"?!?!?

So you didn't look up or find a spec sheet? So that's just a total wild guess! For all you know, it could be massively higher than that. Pixel response and input lag are NOT directly related. And given that a 4k screen has more picture to process and render, input lag tends to be higher if anything.

Given that the best Sony 1080p LCD sets (widely recognised as about the best for gaming) tend to be in the low 20's in game mode, I would ASTONISHED if this cheapo 4k set was anywhere close to 30-40ms!

(eg. The LG 55EG960V which costs over £2k has an input lag in game mode of 49ms!)

Guessing things like this really isn't helpful ....

Response time - 8milliseconds...would this be good for sport and gaming just as I'm led to believe that the greater the response time greater the lag ??!!
bobo53 to markdodgson1975
20 Jan 16 #21
I really doubt and the way they quote the 8ms it only means grey to grey, still not sure how does affect in game especially for pc use. Called Toshiba, they say that because they do not build this tv we should ask argos. I really doubt argos knows what we are talking about. Worth a try at this price provided that it would work with the pc at [email protected] 4-4-4 chroma If it does not then I consider it is another useless 4ktv like many others as I really doubt that it would do a so so upscaling, not even the top one are as good as normal 1080p TV's for displaying sd and hd contents. Can someone confirm if this tv is restricted to 4k 60hz 4-2-0 chroma?? or can it do a proper [email protected] 4-4-4 chroma? obviously it needs a proper suitable GPU for that like nvidia gtx 970 etc...
sancheez to markdodgson1975
21 Jan 16 1 #55
It's LCD based. Although I've never tried this set, I'm almost certain I'd notice motion blur on a football match. I notice it on far more expensive and higher priced LCD based sets than this. It's an inherent problem with the way LCD renders it's picture.

Some are more sensitive to, and bothered by, it than others. I think I'm at the super-sensitive end of the spectrum.

It's a lot of TV & spec for the money. But I wouldn't buy one personally.

(Friend had a Toshiba flat panel TV from Argos. It lasted less than 3 months before it failed. They're not the quality brand they once were ....)
adam0812 to markdodgson1975
21 Jan 16 1 #59
8ms will be the pixel response time so input lag will probably be in the region of 30-40ms. Which is pretty good for a tv, with respect i doubt this is going to be bothersome for gaming unless you are used to playing on a 120/144hz monitor.

I have always considered Toshiba to be a quality tv brand, having had a couple of their original 32" wide-screen sets back in the day. Like a lot of others, we went with Samsung when buying our first hd tv, but went back to Tosh when replacing our original (9 years old) 40" Sammy in our "good room" a while back. It is a 40" smart set we bought from Tesco.Com for £280 and the picture is mostly good with hd material. But any quibbles we have could possibly be down to our Virgin Media hd box only outputting 1080i as opposed to full HD. Overall, the quality and wealth of features seemed good for the price at the time. But now they are selling a 48", 4K, active 3D model for £399? It's gotta be a no-brainer. Have some heat OP.
AndyRoyd to mickrick
21 Jan 16 1 #57
Cool story bro. Shame the OP item isn't designed or made by Toshiba, which sorta negates the rose-tinted reminicence. It's a no-brainer if you want a supermarket-quality TV with a Tosh badge stuck on the front, in which case it's high in value, not high in quality.

Bought on Saturday evening, took it back sunday morning.
In my opinion its a rubbish tv.
On paper great spec.
It is that price as it is cheap tv, it is not worth even 350.
Smart tv? Yes maybe 10 years ago that one would be considered as smart tv.

Everything in that tv feels cheap and not up to any standard.

Picture quality is awesome - Full HD and 4K video(HEVC videos from hdd or usb working perfect). SD is SD, so You can watch, but looks poor. Just few good smart app, and a lot of useless. In Argos description I saw Miracast, but i don't know how to turn it on TV? Anybody know?

No, not like this one. As it appears the 3D doesn't rate well or doesn't work,

Does anyone know of a decent 3D tv for around this price, wanted to post my own ?, but hukd posting page isn't working for me right now.

I have got a 3d tv but no clue how to use it, and the picture is terrible - not relative to the thread but voted hot.

Pioneer Kuro - the best Plasma money could buy at its time, that and the Panasonic Viera PZ800 (46" version) like I own. Still a superb picture that has black blacks and a picture to behold!!!

I have an Active 3D TV and I can't be bothered watching it. Everything goes dark and the colours are dulled to the point you feel like you are missing out.

I was gonna go for this but there seems to be a big issue concerning the 3D glasses and which are compatible.

I bought this tv for my parents just before Christmas cant fault it for the money. It is 3D BUT it does not come with 3d glasses and its an active 3D TV so the glasses are more expensive but can be had on ebay for about £15.

Do you have a link by any chance for the glasses at £15 please ?

Thank you for using Argos Q&A

Thanks for the update

Should anyone wish to have this TV in 2D, print out the following image. Hey presto, a 2D TV!

http://argos.scene7.com/is/image/Argos/4484811_R_Z011?$TMB$&wid=312&hei=312

P.S - I cannot guarantee this 2D model will switch on and display images other than that which it is printed with.

Previous members confirmed 3D and some argos reviews say it has 3D, although no specs state it - So tad confused

Product-Reviews also state : "This model comes with 4K Ultra HD display, a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, a 1000Hz Motion Rate, Active 3D with its 2 3D glasses supplied, Micro dimming, built-in freeview, and 2 x 8 watt RMS power output."

They're not actually made by Toshiba, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vestel
But still a good price/spec combination.
Nearest I can find to any reviews
