Thrustmaster t150 PS4/PS3/PC
Selling at Argos for £44.99.
Been looking at this for a while but did not want to splash over £100 to get it.
This could be an error from Argos but if not, fantastic deal !!

Well I am happy with this deal.

Managed the weekend to offload my (given to me) old Logitech Driving Force Pro GT wheel that was PS2/PS3 compatible to Cash Converters for £25.

So my upgrade has cost me £20, would have cost me that much to buy the parts to build a GIMX converter for PS4 compatibility....and now I don't have the hassle of adding into the mix a Raspberry Pi or my laptop and its a better wheel than the old Logitech to boot.

Argos went above and beyond to replace my unit. No thanks to the Thrustmaster customer team I now have a replacement unit. Really chuffed with that result. I'll give it a good test as soon as I get chance.

Guys, anyone who's had a 'buzzing' unit replaced, what have you found different with your replacement one? Anything other than it just being quieter?

I am sure that somebody in this thread earlier on mentioned thrustmaster agreed to send a replacement wheel because of the noise and smell. I guess it depends on the person who contacted you with poor advice.

It appears most Argos stores now have stock. Good luck

I'll be doing that now, thrustmaster seem to think constant loud buzzing with a burning smell is completely normal. Unbelievable. I will never buy a product from this lot again, worst customer service support I've ever dealt with.

Ive found my receipt. Thrustmaster are currently 'sending my video of the buzzing to their engineers to study'.... Seriously. What the hell? It's not exactly rocket science, it stinks of burning, the thing is buzzing more than an angry wasp stuck in a car on a summers day, get a grip.

I'm going back to Argos as soon as I get chance now I've found my reciept anyway, no matter what their illustrious engineers decide. Pity they weren't so thorough when they were shipping these defective units out of the door in the first place, eh?

That's pretty good but it's quite a bit more wood and work for no hight/forward/backward/tilt adjustment. Unless you have a chair set perfectly for it, it could get uncomfortable quick. Also pedals ain't fixed so that's more messing when getting out/putting away.

By the way, if you hate the plastic pedals and already have a logitech G25 / G27 / G29 pedal set which you can use, then check this out this adapter which works with the T150: http://www.ricmotech.com/product_p/rmt-t500w2g27p.htm

Received my replacement from Argos today. It's quieter although not whisper quiet. No more smell, just a slight whiff if I put my nose right next to the ventilation area. The smell was more of an issue with the previous wheel.

The text I received from Argos stated the following *New range out now*

Not sure if the above quote is relevant to the wheel or just a general comment.

Did you just replace it through argos? I'm trying to do it through thrustmaster as my local store doesn't seem to have any stock. They're taking an absolute age to get back to me, I replied to them with a video of the noise, etc, ages ago. Pretty poor stuff, eye opening to see others getting their stuff replaced really quickly while I'm sat twiddling my thumbs

Well after deciding wheel stands were far to dear for me seems I got this at an excellent price and wasn't even after a wheel to start with. I've made one.
Found some rough sawn 3x2 and some ply in the shed.

Check it out, my environmentally friendly wheel stand pro :sunglasses: solid as hell and folds away better than the real thing.

I've tried it with Driveclub, but didn't really like it and still prefer the pad. It's going to be interesting to see how it handles when the new hardcore mode is added next month.

I'm probably going to buy Sebastian Loeb Rally on Friday, so we'll see how it copes with an extended session.

Tried mine on P Cars the other day and I'm not that keen either. The game Just seemed a lot harder to play with it.

This is using it with the ironing board though so can't really judge it until it's set up on a stand and the pedals are secure. God knows when I'll get round to building one though.

Thanks sk1nnym0nkey, just waiting for my local Argos to get some stock and will get a replacement.

Last time my TX458 broke down over a year ago, it took around 2-3 weeks to get a replacement from Thrustmaster. They are probably even more busier now since the launch of more wheels and peripherals.

So thrustmaster have got back to me and deem the wheel to be faulty.... This is what ive had from them
Regarding your T150 Racing Wheel.

We thank you for the details provided.

Giving the fact that you recently purchased the unit, you have 2 options:

- go with the wheel to the retailer for a full replacement with the specification that you have spoken with the Technical Support and we have concluded the unit is faulty;

- send the unit to us for a RMA process (repair/replacement under warranty).

Let us know what you want to do.

Zafir to Bird68
25 Jan 16 #502
So I finally got my stand, allowing me to finally give the wheel a bit of a better go. This has been my experience so far :
No buzzing at all. Maybe a very slight burning smell, but I'm not entirely surprised by that. I'd imagine that's normal since it's obviously going to get hot.

Only tried Driveclub(don't own any other racing games on my PS4), which I actually didn't really like much when it first came out. The wheel has made me like it more than I did before, lol.

Will give some PC games a shot in a bit. Own a lot more racing games on PC.

Thanks T2000Bill, I will adjust my settings.

unquestioned, I screwed an unused small mdf kitchen cupboard shelf (18" x 11") in a teak finish that I had lying around to the underside of the pedals. (any decent bit of heavy board will do) I drilled two holes through the board aligning the two machine slotted screw holes with the pedal base. Then using double sided tape, I taped four pieces of 4" strips of very coarse oxide sandpaper to the underside of the base board. The board adds weight and the oxide paper gives extra grip to the pedal base which now eliminates it sliding around on the carpet!
unquestioned
25 Jan 16 #499
My mate is the same, only wants a stand. I suggested he makes essentially a small desk with a base at the bottom to put the pedals on. Base would be a small box so you can fill it with sand to give some weight to the structure to absorb the ffb vibrations. Wouldn't require much really.

All I want is a wheel stand pro type stand so I can use it in the living room sitting on the sofa.
I've never bought a wheel before because of the price of them, this at £45 was worth it so now I don't want to up that price to over a £100. I'll keep my eye on the bay or I'll make something cheap.

I'm running my T150 wheel on a PC. Whilst playing Project Cars here's the Thrustmaster PC properties settings that seem to work for me.
Wheel/ Rotation/Angle 360 degrees.
I adjusted the force feedback down to a comfortable 35%.
Detailed Gain Settings:
Constant 85%
Periodic 85%
Spring 85%
Damper 80%

I am presently driving open top sports cars at the Spa circuit Belgium and the settings listed above seem to work a treat, plus using the in game settings for further adjustment as well. I seem to be tweaking all the settings for every different type of car and track I use, so for me I think it's a case of different setups for every new driving experience.

I only have a light rubber smell coming off the wheel which I put down to the newness of the wheel, which when you think about it is common with most plastic components which generate heat and friction. I have no buzzing sound from my wheel so hopefully it's not a common fault of the T150.
T2000Bill to Wowhats
25 Jan 16 #497
You should never use spring and damper in the profiler in Windows it's artificial, the game does that for you, they should be on 0%

24 Jan 16 #496
That honestly sounds normal. Remember it's an entry wheel. There is also a power assist option you can switch on that lightens the steering a fair bit.

24 Jan 16 #494
I am using it on PC, with the Thrustmaster driver and Firmware v5.

I have tried adjusting the driver settings (that's what the various lines are in the chart) but I think the root cause is mechanical friction.

I guess you could argue that as long as the friction is less than the lowest force you ever want to feel it's workable with settings changes (in game or driver) but I am really curious to know if I have a dud. I either need to find a shop with one on display I can spin or get someone else's opinion but it's a difficult thing to compare since it depends on your expectation (which is why I thought the chart was useful i.e. objective not subjective :o )
youngrobbo
24 Jan 16 #492
PC or playstation use?

For PC there's a setting in the driver to adjust force feedback overall. PS games have to be adjusted per game. For Project CARS I have mine set as low as 60 and that has made a big difference.

As for buzzing/burning debate. Get a slight burning smell sometimes which i would say is fighting against a running motor, but not really noticed buzzing. Trying to steer against a running motor though is bound to cause some level of heat. I have noticed that its also getting better with running in.
jxjsnz
24 Jan 16 #491
I'm sooo on the fence about whether to take mine back or not.

Yes it buzzes a bit (bit not too much I usually wear headphones and don't notice).

Yes it smells a bit - again not a lot, not enough to make me worry something is burning etc. and hopefully it will go away with time.

The thing I can't get on with the the residual friction. I know it's normal for a belt wheel to be harder to move than a gear one and since my previous was geared (Logitech Driving Force GT) maybe it's just me being sensitive but it just seems too much.
Running a wheel force feedback calibration tool program you can clearly see it, it's not all in my mind.
Not sure if I have a faulty wheel or they are all like that but to my simple mind this factor means is fails in it's most important task which should be the accurate conversion of requested torque (from game) to actual torque (to your arms).

I know some games can be adjusted to account for 'deadzone'/minimum force etc but whatever you do there is no way to reliably get the wheel to generate a small force.

Here is the T150 (note ~20% force request before any movement)

and here is the 'old' Logitech DFGT (nice and linear)

In case anyone wants to try the wheel check program I found a link here (not my db account).

The charts I showed were from the 'log2' test, showing deltax vs force (output file is a .csv which goes in my documents I think, excel can read it).

I saw that playseat when it was £125 but even at that price there's no way I'll be paying. These stands and seats are just stupid money for what they are.
Looks like I'm going to have to try making something.
unquestioned to sprite127594
24 Jan 16 #488
I made my own. Cost about the same at the end of it. A suitable seat, decent sturdy wood, paint and other fixings, it takes more than you think for a decent build. Needs to be sturdy and well built, you need a way to mount a monitor and not to mention the size and weight of a self built one. Playseats have the advantage that they can be hidden away, mine cant.

So at £125, bargain, my wheel and pedals cost 3 times that.

PlaySeat was bought from Alza.co.uk at the time of posting this it was £125 but has shot up to £136 Now I believe... If you recommend 6 People you get £10 Off Voucher off your next Oder that comes through Email Straight away. Delivery was Free as I Ordered the same set of Pedals from the Website too £150+ for Free Delivery) again at time of posting was £65 but now has gone up to £70+

Wheel was bought from Argos where I had £25 of Vouchers for Argos so all just shy of £210 was a great.

In regards to Pedals the T3PA Pedals are such good quality. Heavy base so pedals don't move around and the Pedals are Metal as opposed to plastic. Also Brake has a Conical Brake Mod this is fantastic for rally games or F1 Games as its a progressive brake and helps when your turn off ABS on some games.

Everything fits perfectly in the cuboard as it just folds up neatly and is so worth the money for an Inter Setup

Picked mine up yesterday! Argos are honouring if the item was reserved at £44:99!

20 Jan 16 1 #459
Picked up mine today from yesterday's reservation. Thanks to the OP.

The lower price was displayed on screen, which I printed off and took it to the store. They eventually honoured the lower price. Even now when I look I can see the reduced price online, if it goes into the basket at a higher price then that's their problem, they need to fix their webpage with the correct price.

Anyway the wheel is not worth £170, perhaps £99 at the most. I have a Thrustmaster TX458 for the Xbox One and a Fanatec 911 Turbo S for the PS4. Force Feedback wise it does a decent job with project cars and F1 2015. A good starter wheel I think, not in the same league as the TX458, it also works with my Clubsport Pedals/Basher Adapter. It reminds me of the Logitech Driving Force Pro.

Regarding the firmware, it came with Version 5, which is the latest. There is a noise from the left side, most likely the motor, and the Fan can be heard from the right. The smell I guess is coming from the plastic.

The wheel can't be hard mounted, but the clamp does a great job.

Decent review from ISRTV:-

Yes it will do something for consoles, it alters the automatic fan spin up, when the wheel gets to a certain temperature the fan kicks in to cool it, this has the downside that it may reduce FFB to cool it down if you are in a warm room and have a strong FFB setting, this is why some fail due to overheating, the V5 firmware forces the fan on as soon as the wheel is powered up, a little bit noisier but no biggie and no overheating, the firmware is stored in the wheel itself so it works on consoles as well.

This PDF explains it, it's for the TX but the same principal, Firmware.

From the forums I have read it is best to do this before using it.

I've experienced the same thing tonight after playing some Daytona and GT6. Pretty concerning, smelt pretty hot, constant buzzing and the general force feedback/movement noises were really noticable. Not good at all.

Maybe we're starting to find out just why this batch was under 50 quid...?

Silly question, but has anyone any PS3 recommendations for this wheel. I currently have Grid 2 & a couple of NFS games to try.

Tried GT5 last night. Jeez, that game is the most boring combination of menus and loading screens ever. Was almost 20 minutes before I actually got a race going and even then was pointless as hadn't upgraded the car enough and was left for dust.

Picked mine up earlier. Tried to charge £169.99 but didn't argue once I showed him the reservation price of £44.99

Have to say not really amazed with the wheel as imo it is only worth £44.99 anyway and to charge £169 is a absolute rip off. The G29 from currys for £150 absolutely blows this out the water. Hand stitched leather compared to a cheap plastic wheel says it all really..

always knew it was a misprice, too cheap for a new product, hence I collected mine ASAP

My theory is perhaps clearance of specific batch? But even then it doesn't really explain the low price point or lack of a sale tag or that it was on the main site rather than just argos-ebay.
Perhaps £45 was the wholesale purchase price?

No the reservations are processing as the £170 price, had to have a bit of a moan for them to pass it through. It helped that someone on their online chat system confirmed first thing this morning that it would be the £44.99 price when I went to pick it up - took a transcript of that with me.

What makes everyone certain it was a misprice other than it's only a quarter of the RRP and less than half the next cheapest?

If it was a mis price, would it not have been changed sooner?
Zafir to pianist30

It's really new and at least £60 cheaper than everyone else.

You generally don't see those kind of deals in a sale so soon after launch.
cicobuff to pianist30
19 Jan 16 #403
It would have had to have been one heck of a promotion and exclusive to Argos if it was not a misprice. 25% of its RRP.

Considering the wheel only went to market last September as well, and one retailer selling if at 75% off, I would say Argos were just very slow on the uptake of the error.

Presumably, if you don't get a cancellation email/txt for a reservation (I have one for collection at £44.99), then they should honour that price on collection, according to Argos's new policy...

They shouldn't be able to simply say in store that it was a mis-price, as if it is, according to their T&C's, if it was a price error, they should contact you asking if you want to re-order at the new price, and failing that, they cancel the order...

I'll see what happens when I try and collect it.

Been playing with mine this eve. Absolutely amazing. Had no idea how realistic these things could be. Didn't even realise the wheel had powered motors. The way it fights you as you're losing control is breathtaking.

This has to be one of my favourite deals I've ever got from this site. Even my girlfriend had fun driving with it (even though she was against the idea of me getting more "tech junk").

I feel like I should be trying to buy a second one as a backup if this ever breaks I can't imagine being without this now.

I was looking into folding chairs and such (and the Playseat Challenge recommended here earlier) but I can't justify hundreds of pounds for a chair. Turns out my basic folding plastic chair and folding wooden table from amazon work really well with this.

@paulito, you're awesome for bringing me my childhood dream.

The box is huge, no idea how I'm gonna find space for it at home, girlfriend's already annoyed that I am bringing it back tonight and I don't even think she understand just how big it actually is.

Tip no 1: On your way home pick up a bunch of flowers for your girlfriend, this may soften the blow for you and score you some points as well, after all you have saved a lot of money over the full price of this gaming wheel so a £4.99 bunch of flowers is well worth the cash layout. While she's arranging the flowers you can be racing!

Used it on F1 2013, Project Cars and Dirt 3. (all PC) Takes time to set up the wheel settings for each type of race but I am finding my way slowly, it's a slow learning curve.

Thanks again OP for a great deal.

I'm not talking about the game I love driveclub it's one of my favourite games but playing it with a wheel is very strange can't put my finger on it but the feeling you get on the wheel is just wrong. On the other hand project cars or gran turismo on ps3 give great feel on the wheel.

using fast track you only get two emails. First one, when you made the order which is your invoice and contains order number and collection code. And you get another on the day of the collection saying that your order is ready

I've read nothing but bad things about project cars. At least Driveclub fixed its launch issues, from what I hear PC is a mess that isn't getting fixed.

Couldn't disagree more - reminds me of pgr2 on original xbox. Class game with the wheel just don't expect a Sim (and have a play with the settings).

My tip for op would be to be light with accelerator as with the more powerful cars you'll spin.
Denziloshamen
17 Jan 16 #279
Anyone got any tips for using this with driveclub. I've gone from being relatively sucky but able to win or place in most races, to now not being able to get around a track without spinning out and crossing the line ages after everyone else!!

I've managed to improve a little bit on the dry tracks, but as soon as it starts raining (which it seemed to do on almost every race on the season pass tours) I'm screwed.
youngrobbo to Denziloshamen

Haven't played it with drive club yet, on Project CARS. The only thing I would say based on pcars is to practice. My first laps were abysmal, now starting to get back to where I was with the pad, a few days and I should be able to kill my fastest times.

Jeez. I registered as I wanted to say I had managed to purchase multiple items including collecting today, and the fact that they are appearing back in stock at one of my local stores. Surely this outweighs any notion of bad ethics.....which is nonsense in itself, maybe.

You should have registered to post a deal, not wade into a discussion about ethics
Instead, you scalp off other members contributions and try to make a profit
Its one thing taking from this site without ever giving back, its annoying but there is a huge number of guest users. Its another to scalp and make a profit whilst others probably missed out due to your greed

I have bought three and I will be selling 2. Nothing wrong or unethical about that... I fast tracked one yesterday and reserved another 2, all at different stores. Picked up the reservation this afternoon and the two young sales assistants were chucking with one another whilst looking at the price and looking at me. On the subject of extension cables..... I have mine on both a power and usb extension and they work perfectly fine so whoever made that comment has no idea what they are talking about and clearly haven't got one.

I do not see how a decent quality extension cable would affect the data from this. USB hubs maybe not. I won't reply individually to the members saying I've alerted the Argos Police about the price alert. What a Stupid accusation saying now because of me you won't get the Wheel at the price you paid for. Stop being so petty and ignorant. I wanted to double check I was getting It for the price I paid for it and that my order was secure. If I didn't call up to verify this I wouldn't have known and was too busy today to chance It. Like most Deals that OOS & It wouldn't have been solely down to me. Prove It is all I can say. And if you can't Just go and pick up the wheel and fight your case. If you're willing to let them not honour the price that YOU Paid for It via FastTrack then that's your loss, But they have no grounds to Cancel the orders considering so many people in this thread alone have received theirs at the price they Ordered It at.

What is the difference between this and the RS? I have just looked at the RS and it looks identical?
yolo_
17 Jan 16 #207
It's a pricing error however

1. The RS model is online only
2. Other steering wheels are around £50 mark
3. It's a new Product/no WAS price

Therefore the majority of Argos employees will just look at price and not think anything of it as few will know the market price

Hence to the other guy , the reason you never highlight it is that they'll just process it as per norm UNLESS you give them reason to think otherwise

I'm gutted because I had held out so long in buying a new wheel after the cockjockeys that are Logitech shafted their old customers, so I went and bought this wheel 2 weeks ago for £105. I thought that was a good deal, ha!

Anyway, I spent a few days configuring mine so will help you lot.

For pCARS on PS4 you want it in 900 degree mode, hold mode and press left on d-pad till light blinks 4 times.

Then you want to run pedal and wheel calibration, the second time it asks you to turn the wheel do it so it's directly on 900.

Then use these FFB settings:

Anyone got one of these for pick up in the morning? My nearest was too far away to get to before they closed today. I was very tempted until I thought about the time I had to wait for the parts to arrive from the US, plus the fact that I have to keep a computer on at the same time or buy a Raspberry Pi for ease but still cost more money. If you only have the GT wheel, sell it then go to Currys and get the G29 for £159.99. It's a significant and justifiable improvement for the money. The Logitech's have my build quality trust, not the Thrust'

Actually when I realised after that it wasn't the store I thought it was yes I was asking but I was also going to offer the code to someone else, so shut ya gob lol.

Also I think it's worse people buying all the stock and selling them on EBay, look at all the ones for sale already, plus I was offering whoever could pick it up money for their time and petrol plus P&P so it would have cost me a lot more than £45.

Code available for this store if anyone wants one.

Within a few weeks time failures are exactly what the guarantee is for. Did you get a replacement? Did that fail as quickly? What about the replacement of that? etc...

A single anecdotal incident of failure isn't going to be enough for people to write off a brand because when dealing in huge numbers, failures are inevitable.

All true, but consider that you gained nothing by calling except peace of mind, but probably tipped them off about the misprice. In effect, you've made it much more likely they'll cancel all non collected/delivery orders, including yours and mine!. But before the call the odds were much lower and your order would probably have slipped through for monday collection.

General rule is to not contact the company for as long as possible on a misprice

Due to how both consoles do accessories this time around, they basically need a chip in them to work with them, there isn't any wheels which work with both. You'd have to buy a different wheel which supports the XONE and PC.

Very annoying for someone like me who owns a PC, XONE and a PS4. It's why I haven't bought one before really, but for £45 I can't say no.

P.S Took advice above and ordered to collect today, did fast track too. So no price changes here.

That's a very good idea because I have been stung before where they put the price up while your on the way to the store but Fast Track thy cannot do that.
