So just buy a card online and register it when it arrives? I needed to do this anyway as I have no idea of my card number, which is a PITA, but might as well do it now. Oh is it easier/quicker to pick one up in store? Still trying to understand how it works. :/
ETA, there's postage to pay if ordering a card online, so will try to pop into store.

The extra shots are really the only thing worth it since the coffee is so milky without them. But otherwise instant gold membership is great.

I see this as a negative reward as their giving you extra fat and sugar for free, wouldn't a free apple or banana be a better reward ? Adding whipead cream and or syrups doubles the calorific value ,sugars and fat of your coffee !

Ordinarily I'd agree with you absolutely. But Starbucks coffee is so bland, so tasteless, so insipid that more or less anything added to it (even shoe polish) tends to improve it.

Does it need to be an actual card or can this be via the app please?

Got a new card, set it up, showing as green also. Will check back tomorrow. Haven't lost anything either way as I first registered on the app and didn't know my card number, which was making things difficult, so had been meaning to pick up a new card anyway for that reason.

I if it dost go on to your account e-mail them I didn't get my £5 bonus for adding £20 to my app so i emailed them and they appologised and added it to my acc no problem :wink:

I had a gift card that I got via my Nationwide account with cashback for half the amount, so I just registered my £15 card that cost me £7.50 and the offer was on the Starbucks website. Thank you for the heads up, have some heat.

Funny thing is that these were next to all a part of the original card before they nerfed it into the ground. Starbucks must have been not making enough money or may be paying too much tax???

I was walking past starbucks today and I really fancied a hot, tasty cup of coffee. So I kept walking.

Starbucks coffee is truly awful. Of the chains Caffe Nero is by far the best, the taste actually resembles that of coffee.

I only drink coffee blessed by the pope direct from Vatican City, made with beans pooped by sacred apes, so I wouldn't know

That's true, they don't have to due to the extremely complex world of international tax laws, however moral business practice suggests they should pay the correct tax that any UK only business would. Just because they have their money funnelled through an offshore account, doesn't make it acceptable.

If all large businesses paid the correct tax in the UK, the financial situation of the country would be extremely different. Oh, but free syrup!

I sent them an email yesterday stating I was unhappy being a long term customer this offer was only for new customers, they replied today and upgraded me to Gold instantly !!!

Shame it only lasts for a year:

One tip to maintain gold level is to buy items separately... Every item (drink / bakery / sweet / biscuit etc.) will be converted into a star. Don't buy an entire round of drinks and sandwiches in a single transaction, as you will only receive one star.

I always intend to do this but some of the staff give you such an evil look that I more often than not chicken out! Cluck!

I noticed in their customer service FAQ section it says it can take up to 7 days to move up to the Gold level. So we'll just have to wait it seems.

I used to work near a Waitrose and went in there occasionally, I believe they changed the offer since I last got a free coffee. I thought it changed to be only free with a purchase? (Last went in one probably a year ago)

Nah, always been free regardless. They changed it so you had to get the cups from the cash out, but no purchase necessary. Maybe you're thinking of the café? If you want to sit and drink you need to buy something.

As you say, it's still free from the machines - but it's still lousy coffee. Even worse than Starbucks!

I did, got an email on Friday advising could take 24 hours but happened almost immediately.

I said they obviously didn't read it well enough as my name isn't *random name*!

Forgot to get in touch with them, but automatically been upgraded to gold now, yesterday think it was. Just a shame there is not a Starbucks near the office I'm having to work from for 3-6 months, so don't think I'll be able to maintain it.

Took a few emails, and they finally upgraded me, and threw in some vouchers too, as they 'forgot' to send the email saying they upgraded me a few days ago!

Now that's something we'll have to disagree on - every coffee I've had from CAFÉ NERD (yeah the logo looks like it says NERD) has been brewed too hot and is bitter. On the occasion starbucks do that, usually the noob staff, I get them to make another, but NERD seem to know no other way!
