Meant to be a great little device. I would've got one but I didn't want to go through the hassle of changing the links in the strap, although you can change staps. Cheapest it has been according to the camel.

EDIT - Deal Back ON

Don't be put off by the lack of Android Wear. I've had this watch for 6 months and it's great. There are lots of apps available via Google Play, and a thriving developer scene too.

Battery life is 3-4 days and the always on screen makes so much sense. Charges from micro-USB and only takes an hour or so to charge.

Watchify brings almost all your Android notifications to the watch. Tasker plugin, with a bit of tinkering, allows you to control almost all your phone functions in return.

Hot from me.

Fulfilled by Amazon

Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) is a service Amazon offers sellers that lets them store their products in Amazon's warehouses, and Amazon directly does the picking, packing, shipping and customer service on these items. Something Amazon hopes you'll especially enjoy: FBA items are eligible for and for Amazon Prime just as if they were Amazon items.

Low screen resolution on this amongst other things, def not as nice as the SW3, I would skip this one

I would have thought this is better than the SW3 and Sony just like to throw away money designing and building inferior tech.

not sure why a low screen resolution would affect you, i got the sw 2 and a galaxy gear, both are fine.

but the sw2 you cant talk into in it like the galaxy gear or take photos like the galaxy gear, a bit pointless really.

It's not Android Wear, so it has far less functionality than the SW3. Also, I wouldn't expect Sony to keep supporting it for long... You occasionally see the SW3 or Moto 360 for £90. That's a far better deal.

Very different to my experience!

I found the developer scene almost dead six months ago, surely not 'thriving' any more!

Watchify used to be great, and completely saved the watch, but it constantly crashed with me and the developer hasn't worked on it for well over a year now.

Great that you are enjoying yours though!

I moved on to a Pebble which I found massively superior, then on to Android Wear (SW3), which I found a similar step up with.

I had the original Pebble - the lack of colour screen was the biggest turn off, but more importantly the Android app was buggy - I lost track of the amount of times the watch would just not talk to the phone, and Pebble's suggestion - reinstall the watch firmware, reinstall the app, reinstall the watch apps. Yes, that would fix it - but four times a day!? In the end the Pebble went back, got this Smartwatch 2 instead - never lost connection once, found all the apps I wanted and not been happier.

Do note that Amazon picking and despatching the stock doesn't necessarily mean that Amazon have performed quality control over what is in the box; personal experience, I ordered a phone case on pretty much all of the above 'FBA' understanding, clearly picked and despatches by amazon, but the item itself? The packaging was torn/tattered and the phone case had scuff marks and dents all over the back, a customer return that the seller had repackaged and sent back to amazon ready for 'FBA'. I may have received the 1 in 100 orders that the amazon fulfilment centre didn't vet properly but clearly the seller knew what they were doing. As such I tend to avoid all 'sellers' be they on prime or not, 'sold by Amazon' being my preferred choice.

And that was just a long winded post to say that 'FBA' isn't always squeaky clean.
topss
29 Dec 15 3 #22
Yes I know and adding to the above, there is no 100% guarantee that products sold and dispatched by Amazon themselves would be perfect. The point being that the return/customer service process would be exactly the same.

Anyway if the product you purchased was originally fulfilled by Amazon, then the return would have been handled by Amazon, not the 'seller'.

I have been researching Smart watches over the last few days and decided to go with a Pebble for simplicity and battery life. I believe the only Sony watches that work with iOS for the iPhone are those at have Android wear ie the Sony SW3 and more recent. And even those have to be updated using an android phone to the most recent version of Android Wear first. There is an official iOs Android Wear app that works with the iphone, but from what I have read at the moment it can be problematic for some users, with only limited functions supported and connection issues etc. Others will know more and correct me I am sure.

What makes these watches actually smart do they just do the same stuff as my phone does only on a tiny wee screen is it just a gimmick so I can sit and go look its took me 20mins to walk to work and look how many cals it can predict I have burnt up?
BungalowBill to JohnnyL

Apart from using it as a watch (!) principally I use mine to read texts, tweets and WhatsApp messages without reaching for my phone. I can also vet and reject incoming calls, again without picking up the phone. I use it for the vibrate alarms so I can wake up for work without disturbing my wife. I use it, via an app called Takser, to control apps on my phone - remote shutter control for the camera and so on.

HankHandsome to ColinB1984
29 Dec 15 #52
I've had a pebble time for about 6 months and i wouldn't do without it. For me, it's the convenience aspect of it. Getting all the necessary notifications on my wrist and deciding whether or not i want to do anything about them or just dismiss them is as simple as you like. It means I don't have to fish my phone out of my pocket every time it happens.

Obviously it goes without saying that plenty of people will be quite happy to fish out their phone for every text alert, email alert e.t.c... and that's fine.

Being able to remotely control my music player from my wrist as well has been brilliantly helpful.

If my pebble time died, i'd replace it immediately - I don't think i'd ever go back to a "regular" watch.
Lloydinio to ColinB1984
29 Dec 15 #53
They are handy for people that do activities where it is hard to take there phones out, such as sport. They are also handy for monitoring sport performance. They tell the time. Also you get notification alerts, that I'm not really fussed about. But Why do people spend hundreds on a fancy watch? The answer is because it is fancy.
Blizzard to ColinB1984
30 Dec 15 #97
Not really. The idiots who are never off their phones at work have got them banned during working hours. This lets me view important texts discreetly, and the extra features make it worth having for fifty quid. Admittedly it's a bit of a toy but you only live once...or twice if you want to feel like James Bond.

I have this model in black. The silver strap was more than this at one point. I find it useful at work for unobtrusively canceling calls and sending brief replies but the glass face is made of cheese. I chipped the face two days after getting it. six months on a second chip and a scratch on the face mean I am embarrassed to show anyone the watch. You can't get a replacement face (afaik) and the other half isn't impressed with the idea of me forking out for another new smartwatch. :disappointed: good price but I'd try a different brand

Buying from 'Amazon' and buying from a 'FBA seller' on Amazon. Two very different things. Even if the customer service / return is handled by Amazon. It was a massive pain in the proverbial as I needed a phone case to use, not one that I had to arrange a return for and then order another case altogether. Returning requires taking the 'seller's' plainly dinged up scratched up item to a collect+ location / post office / Amazon locker or arranging for Amazon to collect from work or home (not an option, house empty during the day and I work in the kind of place where personal mail isn't an option at all). Especially annoying given how (free) time poor I've been of late, weekends to boot. So. Another long winded post but FBA isn't 'just' a simple open and shut 'same customer service as Amazon' proposition. That one time I found fly in my ointment? I went without ointment.
topss
30 Dec 15 #104
It's the same. I have returned many a FBA item to Amazon and the returns procedure was NO different to items I have returned that were sold and fulfilled be Amazon.

I'm gona guess you were just upset at receiving a damaged item and I'll also guess you would have had the same 'problem' returning it if you had purchased it from Amazon themselves. I think your one example is too anecdotal.

At the risk of coming across like I'm trolling you (I'm not), even on an anecdotal basis I stand by the point I'm making. I'd much rather buy from Amazon and not run the risk 'FBA' style of that 1% chance of receiving something that I will have a headache over returning to Amazon for a refund; it just isn't worth it for me. I suspect I'm not the only one who skips 'FBA' purchases on Amazon preferring to go for sold and despatched by Amazon transactions.
