As far I know it is digital and digital should not loose quality whichever way it is send (I assume Bluetooth does not use some kind of compression.
Edit: actually just done some research and Bluetooth does apply compression which does affect quality.. I learned something today ;-)

Need! its all relevant to your own . Are you confusing need with what it does? If so then it connects to your existing stereo/surround sound

The latest versions do not, The Sonos and Bose are comparable BUT different, I have had both and for MY needs the Bose is far superior. A big benefit to me is the time from "thinking" about putting on music to it starting is extremely quick (once touch, remote or one touch on App).

What I dislike about these is they do not have Bluetooth connectivity otherwise I would have bought a few. Seems damn silly only to allow connection over wifi in this day and age.
Could anyone recommend a good set of Bluetooth speakers?

Do you not loose a lot of fidelity with a Bluetooth connection though? I have a Sony docking station with Bluetooth, I get better sound quality (by quite a noticeable amount) docked compared to the same iPhone via Bluetooth.

My stereo died so I replaced it with a pair of sonos play 1s. The lack of aux in is my only frustration. Would love to plug my tv and minidisc player into it. Hahaha so retro.
Connect amp is next on my list. Richersounds have it for £369, but I've found simply electronics has it for £359. Would they price match?

Check out phonos in the app store. Works a treat on my windows phone.
Still love my Logitech Squeezebox Boom. Great sound, controlled from the unit, or remote, or app and does everything I need it to. Fantastic piece of kit but need to expand around the house so I'm keeping my eye on a couple of Sonos 1's.

Unless you burn your cds which I try to avoid as I like the sound quality from the disc you can't play them through this system unless you go in high at the Play 5 or the amp which have the connectivity.

I have one, very good however with one speaker the sound is mono. I also find the Sonos app a little rubbish and it annoys me you can't just Bluetooth or use aux to play music

That's my main frustration with Sonos too. I've invested a lot in their speakers but if there was a more flexible alternative I'd probably go for it. I'm currently trying out a Libratone Zipp ( https://www.libratone.com/uk ) which has airplay and Bluetooth, plus some more connectivity options I haven't got my head a round yet. Sounds nice too.

Actually you can "use Aux" with the Play 5 and the Play Bar.
No Bluetooth but you can stream the music from you phone/tablet onto these.

I would say the sound is comparable to a full Bose system, I have these play 1's paired with a sound bar and sub and it sounds amazing.
No need for a PC, but you will need a smartphone in order to control them/play music as they don't include a remote

No it's fine, sound quality and loudness is good, really good compared to some of the crap which is out at the min. You use your mobile / tablet to control the Sonos via the app. The app links to Spotify buy you can only use Spotify through the Sonos app (if that's how you stream), alternatively saved music on your device can be played and selected through the app or access to dab radio through the app.
I haven't used a pc so wouldn't be able to comment. You also have to have it connected to wifi to use.
Imo I would recommend something like this for a single room setup:

I'm pretty set on getting a sonos but I do like the idea of a remote control for the bose...but I think the sonos looks a lot better too!

That's a good price, so I guess Sonic Direct deal is cheapest now but Curry's tomorrow is 99p cheaper. Guess we will all get JL to price match it anyway, don't know why they can't sell it for £148 and get some extra sales!
