I assume u got it from argos , which was glitch. 500 Gb new hard drive will cost more than 25 pounds

How does the WiFi connection work? If you connect to this device, will you not lose your connection to your router? ie you can't use the internet and this simultaneously?

Got one of these when they were on offer before. Utterly useless for streaming movies with, every size and format tried. Ended up having to hard wire which then sucked power from the laptop defeating the portability selling point as I needed to keep the laptop connected to a power supply. It didn't even cope well with music. They are OK if you are using it for transporting docs or presentations but not much else.

I never had any issues even steaming high definition videos. Sometimes network card on your laptop does matter too, that may reduce the wireless network speed

Sounds like you're unnecessarily getting a tad defensive there.
If you had a wifi enabled camera could you use this out the house to backup the photos onto ?

I wouldn't have thought so. Unless the IP camera has the ability to store directly onto a shared drive. Also remember that both will have to be connected to an external WiFI access point to do this.

Which is what I said it was mis price. It was available for few days and when they realised it was a mistake they changed it to 99 pounds later.

That was a pricing error though. However, Argos decided to honour it.

I believe you can connect through so essentially making the device the gateway and maintaining your single connection. I've not really experimented too much with it. I've basically loaded it up with kids films so my little girl could use it with her tablet on long journeys and on campsites when we got there. For that use its great.

How do you actually connect to the device wireless though? Let's say you're running it on batteries wirelessly. Do you 'go in' through Windows networking or do you use some sort of Seagate software that you install your laptop?

ideal to stream movies to daughters tablet whilst in the car. Any idea what voltage the charger is?

You download a Seagate app (android, I have no experience of apple nor windows with this).
The app then identifies the Seagate HDD over the Wi-Fi (creating like a hotspot) and will allow anyone to see it who has the app and anyone to connect and see the contents who has a password.
I believe the one I got last year allows 5 connections at one time. I think this one says 3..
Its charged via micro USB and we had no issues charging it in the car.

Tried 3 of these from PC world, couldn't get it to connect to any device in the house. Tried it on Apple, Samsung phones and a laptop running Windows 10. Nothing.

Does anyone know if you can take the 500gb HD out and stick a bigger one in?

Yes it is possible, I have upgraded it to 1TB. You will have to carefully take it out and clone the drive to get it working

Would it be possible to hard wire this to my WDTV box in the bedroom and download files to it wirelessly from PC in livingroom? Or is it for something completely different.
