This is selling for £849 in curry's at the moment with £300 knocked off but that still does not beat this price at the coop when you have added the TV to you basket add promotional code

FTV50

To knock it from £749 to £699

a little more expensive but after a lot of research online I went for this one:

55" LG

once set-up (properly) it a very nice piece of kit. SD looks decent on it, HD looks very good. Watched a 3D film last night and despite not expecting too much my wife and I loved it.

The robot (salesman) in Curry's tried very hard to push me away from getting this in favour of any Sony - and even made a snide comment to his colleague that was helping me once we had made up our minds (clearly he was not impressed with our choice, and in a similar fashion I was not impressed with his snide comment so just mentioned it to the Manager on the way out)

yes but RS warranty is a whole load easier..no arguing or getting engineers reports etc..in-home repair, loan unit while being repaired and new for old latest model if it fails in 6yrs...
Think I'd rather pay the extra £50.

Brilliant TV though...had mine a few months now an love it. some have had backlight bleed issues but mine is OK. Well reviewed on AVF.

Why? You do realise that a product has to be fit for purpose, including products being built durable enough.
The sale of goods act in UK law requires that products must demonstrate the quality and performance that can reasonably be expected.

That means consumers have the right to ask for faulty goods to be repaired or replaced free of charge within a reasonable time and minimum inconvenience. They may instead ask for an appropriate price reduction if repair or replacement is not done on time or without significant inconvenience to the consumer.

What this means in practice is that regardless of any guarantee period stated the retailer is required to repair or replace the item. The standard minimum period for durable goods such as a television is 3 years.

Are people saying that RS warranty is better than JL? I've always been led to believe that the JL 5 year guarantee is the major pulling point of purchasing a tv from them.
The_Hoff to tom6195
27 Dec 15 2 #26
They used to be good on many fronts, but slowly their willingness to support value for the consumer is waning. It seems every year more conditions are layered on to their price promise and their warranty is now also subject to a depreciation/wear and tear clause.

In the scheme of things, they're still good, but I'd also sooner shop at RS given the choice for AV kit... they understand the market.

I also bought this LG model yesterday and had exactly the same experience with 3 salesmen trying to push the Sony... Turns out there was a Sony rep in store that day but they even had me doubting myself they were pushing so much! Glad I stood my ground and went for the LG.
Have to say though I wasn't impressed with the picture settings on AV forums, and I ended up resetting to the factory settings. Will play around with it a bit more tomorrow but very happy so far.

What's the difference with the UE55JU6410 vs UE55JU6400? All I can see is the PQI is 1000 instead of 900 but from what I've read it's not likely that much of a jump in quality.

Ill bulletin point some random stuff to quote!

-Sony reps will always hug sales staff to sell there own gear so they get to keep their jobs ! So ignore the sales pitch.
-I would recommend anyone go in person and check the tv yourself in Currys, JL, check colours, contrast, angles etc
-No difference between 6410 or 6400, its usually just the bezel colour of the TV being silver etc
-Regardless of brand/model try this guide out: https://www.avforums.com/PicturePerfect/ -will improve your quality pic
-Try and price match it with JL, it did not work for me with co-op but it was ages ago so worth a try.

Otherwise cant disagree with Richer sounds or JL, I opted with JL through a successful price promise with Crampton and Moore Store, they prefer to do it with actual physical stores which are close by to JL stores and should have stock, the usual online electronic places and they don't price promise ie amazon etc . Also I went with JL since they offer free collection from your home, repair and then deliver service. You of course get excellent customer service with JL, they also have a 100% no quibble if you don't like it return for refund policy within 14 days. Unsure if richer sounds offer same.

Otherwise the 6400 series is still an excellent TV set, great deep detailed blacks, solid colours and decent enough viewing angles. The newer Sonys and LGs use IPS panels so better colours, and angles but poorer blacks, at least with Samsung its got a decent all round performance in all areas.

the DLNA support isn't bad on the 6400 but If your streaming lots of home stored media install Plex media server on your media source (if you can) and then the Plex client on the Samsung from the App store.
Plex works really well on the Samsung's and for the odd file it does struggle with it gives you all the transcoding options you need to get playback working.
also gives you a far nicer interface on the TV with decent cover art and bookmarking of part watched media as well as watched/unwatched tags

Bloody John Lewis price match is a joke these days - JL refused to price match because the 'other store did not give a free of charge re-delivery IF you cancelled the first delivery'!

I tried to escalate this saying I was not going to cancel the first delivery but they didn't want to know. I gave my business to the other store instead.

loving it mate - really pleased with my choice. Very hard to say if I made the right choice but so far I can't fault it - the audio through its own speaks is very good for 'TV' speakers. Only issue is the PC connection - but then I only have an on-board graphics setup at the moment

upscaling has been bloody good - was watching UK Gold on the Virgin box last night and had no issues whatsoever

Yeh that's what I've found out from reading online. I'm still seeing conflicting reports on whether this is a 50/60hz or a 100/120hz panel. But looking at the manual the PC resolution suggests 60hz max
parkersblock
28 Dec 15 #65
I'm pretty certain this set is a 60hz panel. I'm waiting for the JU7000 to drop a little bit more. It has a true 120hz panel but not sure of its gaming value as PC can't output [email protected] and i'm not sure if there is anyway to drive it @ 1080P/120hz (without upscaling)

You do realise your entire post is your perception of the regulations, not actual fact right?

As for the idea there is a standard minimum period for durable goods and that its 3 years is complete and utter rubbish.
Eggyclaw
29 Dec 15 #78
I bottled it in the end and cancelled this one for a Sony X850C. It was a bit more expensive but it seems to have more 'future proof' features (though it's hard to say that since the 4k standard hasn't really been finalised yet!). Plus it's a 120hz panel and will do 4k on PC too. It also supports Playstation Now, which might be worth a go since I have a very fast internet connection and no PS4.

Yep that's the one I've gone for from Currys

Currys offer a 5 year guarentee
Care Plan Info

It's not specific about software faults but it just states they'll try and fix whatever and give you a loaner if needed.

I've know the OS has been hit and miss but I believe they've ironed most of it out and they seem to be pretty good at rolling out updates, which isn't always the case with manufacturers.
parkersblock
29 Dec 15 #84
I'd personally opt for Amazon or JL when purchasing any expensive electricals. Currys can be a nightmare to deal with at times, the stress I went through when I bought a faulty Nutribullet from them was unreal.

Anyway, I'm sure part of the fault of the 805C was its dual core which just isn't up to the task imo. If yours has a quad core then I'm sure it wont be plagued with the slow down mine had and even it does it should hopefully be software related, which as you mentioned Sony are good at rolling out.

Well I bought the Sony today. Took a while for it to update but so far no issues with android. Picture looks amazing. Sound could be better but I've not had chance to hook it up to my surround sound yet. Another nice feature is that the tv can control sky/virgin boxes using the tv remote and built in EPG.

Football also looks good and 4K YouTube vids look amazing (especially the Star Wars trailers).

Happy I went with this in the end!
tom6195
29 Dec 15 #88
I'm so confused as to which one to buy. Your comments on the sony are much appreciated since I've read a lot on hukd about android being terrible on these X series sets.

I watch a lot of football and cricket, so it's important that my new tv handles motion/panning well especially if I'm going to drop £900 on it!
