About quarter of the price, less memory and much lower spec processor and display.

It's a nice phone, certainly one of the best available for this price. Unlock codes are about £5 on eBay.
I didn't rate the camera much when compared to the Moto G 3rd, but otherwise it was pretty responsive.

This does seem a good price, but I'm waiting for the Smart Ultra 6 to come back down to £100 as I assume that it's a better phone. Heat for the price.

720p amoled will make other £100 phone screens look pathetic
chancooluk to mynameisthehulk
13 Jan 161#13
You would think so, but I found it a bit soft looking and grainy, especially around text, due to the pentile arrangement of the pixels.
A full RGB IPS screen looks better at 5" and 720p in my opinion. 5" and 1080p would be preferable where a pentile matrix is used.
The J5 also lacks a colour profile app and is set to natural colours by default, so there isn't much of that saturated colour pop that is normally associated with Samsung AMOLED screens.

The Moto G 3rd Gen has been on sale for less than this for months - it's even on the same website as this deal.
bare in mind the j5 only has two point multitouch while most other phones have five point multitouch. Although not function breaking it is a minor annoyance.

I have this.
Bought it from ebuyer for £150 3 months ago.

Finally someone that looks at more than just PPI. Personally I prefer LCD as they look much sharper and accurate. I don't find an over saturated screen very useful. What I do like about AMOLEDS is that it doesn't have to illuminate every pixel which can save battery. Considering AMOLEDS degrade over time and suffer screen burn as well I'm not very keen, even though the S6 edge screen does look incredibly nice...
leelukehope
14 Jan 16#32
In layman's terms AMOLEDS are more vibrant but less accurate with colour reproduction. LCD's look sharper and 'cleaner' but do not look as vibrant as AMOLEDS. Very much a personal preference and best to use both in a shop to see which one you prefer.

The specific phone models, or just in terms of Android? If the S4 receives the same update then shouldn't it be able to keep up at least?
Ultimately I suppose that could mean that apps generally run better on the S4 but not general UI usage.

If the S4 received latest TouchWiz it would perform better. It has stronger CPU+RAM than J5 so it should be more snappy. According to Wiki S4 will not get the latest TouchWiz Nature UX 5.0.

Hi I am interested in the Moto G.
If I get that PAYG, can it be unlocked to work with an O2 sim?
Is it a simple ebay jobbie for unlocking?

Smart Ultra is still only IPS and doesn't look as bright or colourful as AMOLED screens.
Rhythmeister
15 Jan 16#45
The higher resolution makes things MUCH sharper, I observed this coming from a "HD" screen to a full HD. The brighness on said Skodafone is never a problem for me and I set it to it's lowest brightness letting it brighten the screen when conditions dictate it!
Picard123
15 Jan 16#46
^ Obviously, all things being equal 1080p is going to offer more detail at 720p but the latter is fine on a 5" phone. The Smart Ultra 6 screen actually looks pretty washed out when you put it side by side to an S5....

An S5 costs £70 more and I think ZTE offer more phone for the money with the SU6 personally; if anyone's considering the J5 have a look at the following comparison to see what I mean:
SU6 is budget / midrange phone. S5 is a premium smartphone. There's just no comparison.
SU6 is a good phone for the price, but for me personally, I think it's too big and bulky, I don't like capacitive keys and I'd rather have AMOLED. J5 is a good alternative for people who want a 5" phone and it's better than the Moto G (which is very overated IMO)

A half an inch can make all the difference, ooer! But seriously, you're just spending more to have a phone wearing the Sammy badge as the hardware is inferior on the Sammy phone bar the display technology  In terms of processing power the SU6 has the upper hand :man:

Does anyone know how something like the Galaxy J5 or Sony M4 Aqua compares to a Nexus 5? Just I've got the chance to get a barely used 32GB one for the same price and am quite tempted. Will be using as a backup/spotify phone for the car.

SU6 is a budget phone. It's like buying a Ford Mondeo 1.6 and saying it's like an Audi A4. There's no comparison.
my sister paid almost 200€ around Christmas time for this. She loves it. Now she probably regrets she couldnt wait a couple weeks for me to buy it and ship it to Spain...I told her it would go on sale! the original rrpp is way off!#

I was gonna get the M4 Aqua but after reading several reviews, the view is that the camera quality on the M4 is poor. Reviews of the J5 suggest a better camera. If camera is not important then the M4 may make more sense - better battery life etc.

was looking at this yesterday as my son had asked for this for his birthday next month (stated asking when it was £170 so this price looks great) and from what I could see there was a "use my existing SIM" option which didn't add £10 ... nb CPW should be cheaper at £89 PAYG upgrade but their website says we don't qualify for upgrade and from past experience their PAYG get refused even if you meet all the stated requirements so still be ordering from Vodafone later today.
