Great phone.

Bought this for effectively £147 last month from Amazon Warehouse when they had the 30% promo. Phone was in mint condition.

Also bought the official charger/spare battery for £20 from Amazon via Flubit.

Note 4 is the best phone (for me) out today.

1. Incredible OLED screen (not sure why LG won't do OLED on their phones)
2. removable battery
3. MicroSd card storage ext.
4. S-Pen (took some time to get used to it but now I use it regularly)
5. Great build quality
6. Performance is 2nd to none.

Hope Note 6 will redeem these as the Note 5 is a step backwards for me. I don't need a thinner phone if I can't replace battery/ increase memory. I don't need a 4K screen (not sure how many will really us VR), as it simply drains battery and uses up more CPU/GPU. Would be nice if the phone was able to bend (like the flex) in case it falls (to avoid shattered screens). Otherwise the Note 4 is damn near perfect (for me).

Excellent phone, the last best all rounder Samsung built! I'm hoping when Marshmallow arrives it doesn't slow or ruin the Note 4 experience as that will likely be it's last big update.

Oh and be careful anyone ordering one, I had mine stolen when I ordered one from here just before Xmas and replaced with a firestick (how nice). Amazon where brilliant and refunded no probs though.

There will be no Marshmallow for the Note 4 I'm afraid.

Edit: I stand corrected. It appears the handset will receive the Marshmallow update.

performance wise about the same as the G4, but the G4 seems to be doing better for updates and is quite a bit smaller and only gives away 0.2 of an inch in screen size, its a hard choice.

It comes down to you usage, power user heavy emails etc, get the Note 4, average joe use phone for maybe a hour total each day, get the G4, there is no wrong choice here.

Interesting, what was your reasoning? I sent my N4 back to Amazon to get the N6p. N4 was great for two months then did a classic Samsung and slowed down beyond belief. Strangely, whenever there was no SD card in there it ran a bit quicker. Checked with my colleague and his does the same.

But yeah, 6P seems to have superior camera, OS, hardware, build quality and battery life.

I returned a G4 and replaced it with a Note4. No regrets.
Battery is a lot better on Note. But in my opinion both performance and camera on G4 are ahead of Note.
I paid a lot less for my Note buying a refurb. I don't think it's worth £360. G4 offers a lot better value. Unless of course you really want the s-pen experience.

Well I came from an HTC one M8 so I chose the nexus because of the size, front speakers etc. Speakers were poor, battery life wasn't great and it didn't feel like a £580 phone. Tried the Note 4 and love everything about it apart from the lack of front speakers.

Great phone, best one I've had by a long shot!

The first Android update made it a bit clunky but the latest one has made it better than ever. All I really want is for the new marshmallow update to include the camera2 api so I can FINALLY save photos from the camera as raw files, the phone should have had the capability from the start and it's the only thing I've missed although to be fair it's probably irrelevant for a lot of users.

Install cool tool from the app store and you can monitor in real time the CPU use - if its consistently more than 20+% whilst doing nothing, then your battery is going to drain (and warm your phone). After insert/removal of the SD card with lots of media, the scanner will do its stuff - mine can take minutes to hours to complete, for reasons not totally understood. But works well. (Have found issues with some browsers going 100% cpu crazy depending how they were invoked, e.g. Opera when invoked from GMail, will do this - possibly Dolphin/Chrome, too).

I had both note 4 and nexus 6p in the very same time. Now I sold note 4 and kept the n6p, mainly due to the fact that the former sold first (I had listed both to see which goes first to keep the latter).

Comparing those phones, note 4 is considerably smaller and lighter (nb I kept the note without case and have the n6p with case), but still difference is noticeable, so noticeable I could put note under my dashboard in Honda civic, but n6p doesn't fit there, as its too long. On the other hand nexus feels much more premium due to metal body etc, while Samsung only has metal on the side.

Functioning wise, both are great but nexus is a tad quicker, has a much better fingerprint scanner (touch rather than slide). With a phone that big it makes a difference as I had massive difficulties unlocking note using it one hand, every time it took 2-3 trials and I ended up using my second hand. It's much more convenient with nexus, where I don't even think about it when taking phone out of pocket, my finger unlocks it. It's great! (Yet sometimes annoying when phone lies on the desk). Both screens are great, perhaps Samsung is slightly more vibrant and oversaturated due to samoled, but I like the nexus screen. N6p has a significant edge when it comes to speakers, stereo front facing make a difference:) battery is much better on nexus also (dose is great). On the other hand Samsung has the spen which can often come in handy (yet I can't see myself using it for a purpose that I couldn't simply use my fingers, as I don't draw, etc). Putting in phone numbers or making shopping lists is in fact less convenient with the spen, at least for me.

Note has sd card slot and removable battery, which are definitely useful, but having many phone with removable battery, I never actually done it. And I can live with 32gb:) won't comment on camera, as I don't use it often enough, but seeems comparable (I doubt either has a major edge over the other).

All in all, both are great phones. For same price, I would pick a nexus. But given I could sell nexus about 100 dearer, I couldn't make up my mind, so I let a completely random person to make a choice for me (buying one of them, to keep the latter).

Now I'm a happy user of nexus 6p, yet it still annoys me, that it doesn't fit in the box under dashboard of my civic:(

Well against my better judgement I have tried again - and placed an order for one.

Although I had to get Amazon give me a work around to allow me to use my Gift Card balance AND have a local pickup. I hope this work around will still allow me to collect the order without issue. Amazon needs to remove the silly restriction that prevents local pickup when using a Gift Card balance.

Also Amazon urgently needs to stop plifering at it's Amazon Lgistics operation AND it needs to redesign it's packaging - it is far too easy to remove & replace contents by simply pulling out the top or bottom box tabs without any obvious signs of damage to the packaging. Internet forums have many posts where high value items have been stolen from Amazon dispatched orders!

In Novmeber I ordered a Samsung Note 4 phone from Amazon Italy - I received a Braun Ear Thermometer instead!
In December I ordered a Samsung Note 4 phone from Amazon UK - after waiting all day I was told it was lost by Amazon Logistics!

Now I try again - this time forcing Amazon to deliver to my local Post Office hopefully using Royal Mail!

Third time lucky ? Maybe ????

Had a note 4 for over a year, upgraded to a nexus 6p. Do miss the note a bit sometimes. Screen was better, removable memory card and battery was great.

Nexus has better software, speakers, cameras, build quality and performance.

I could have easily kept my note 4 for another 6-12 months and been happy.

Also surprised at how well it's kept it's price. £360 for a 15 month old Samsung and still getting great heat. Impressive.

7 Jan 16 3 #54
And it will keep it's price if Samsung continue to ditch removable battery and memory card capability on it's flagship phones !

If the price drops below £300 for a pukka UK spec sim free Note 4 there will be a stampede - I assure you !!

Anyways - all the black ones are sold now - only white for £363.99 - you have to keep an eye out for them to reappear.

I just hope mine DOES appear on Saturday !

I agree it is a bit of a step back with no SD card and very similar specs elsewhere. The suggestion is that the new S7 will be out this March with an SD card. I hope Samsung have gone back to this approach.

I wouldn't say that 'proves' anything - the massive upsurge in production and sales of Chinese handsets, as well as the introduction of the iPhone to the Chinese market, will likely have had more of an impact on Samsung's flagship device sales than a removable battery and SD. Let's face it, the lack of these features haven't exactly hampered Apple at all.

Personally I don't like expandable storage as I don't like having to tell apps where to store things, nor the discrepancy with respect to which apps can store to SD and which have to use internal storage - I'd rather have the option of cheaper integrated storage as it is faster and more reliable than a memory card, generally speaking. Unfortunately I believe greedy manufacturers and network providers who don't want customers storing their media locally (they want them to stream so they buy more data) have contributed to the slow rollout of higher storage capacity phones. There's simply no need for SD cards to exist on phones, but for the stupidity of these two groups.

I'm very impressed that the Note has held its price so wel by the way. It is a nice device, and it's a shame its fans have had to wait till now to be offered the Note 5 through official channels. Samsung haven't made any fans with that move.

7 Jan 16 #74
So I understand this idea about telling apps where to install, and has been an issue for Android in the past. The thing is with 32GB (or hopefully more) built in, I'm only storing music/video on the SD card and all the internal memory is used for apps. This is great as I can easily move SD cards around (like when I went from 32GB to 64GB and now to 128GB). Also in Android M, when you plug in an SD Card you can format it so it becomes part of the internal memory. Sure you can't remove it as easily to upgrade but you are still in control how much memory you want to put in and when you want to upgrade. Not sure if you checked the rediculous pricing for the 64GB and 128GB S6 models, and the Note 5 max is 64GB right now (except some special limited edition in Korea that came out with 128GB but you know how much that costs). SD Cards are the way forward...
grumpyone
7 Jan 16 #75
Are you kidding me ? Since when has integrated storage been cheaper ?

Your arguments for integrated storage are completely flawed.

As for Apple - that is an eco-system that only thrives on religious fandom and that is beginning to falter by all accounts.
misterleoni
7 Jan 16 #76
Did you actually read what I said or just read what you wanted to hear? Higher storage models of units like the S6 are overpriced. My point was that I'd rather have a cheaper cost for a 128GB S6 than a 32GB model with a card slot. Transferring files to and from the internal storage on an S6 is lightning fast, since the NAND chips they use are top notch, and two sets of storage has never been ideal. You can use external cards on Marshmallow as if they were internal, but not only will this memory be slower but you won't be able to 'hot swap' the cards as some people apparently do.
grumpyone
7 Jan 16 #77
So pray tell me - what exactly you can get a 128GB S6 for ? Whatever, after 2 years your integrated battery will be shot ! But then I suppose, unlike me you replace your phones before that happens.

Like I said - a deeply flawed argument.
misterleoni
7 Jan 16 #78
I'm not telling you I can get a 128GB S6 cheap, my POINT is that *if* manufacturers and network providers sold phones with built in storage in high capacities for a reasonable amount instead of the stupid rates they currently charge (when you can even get them) then micro SD would be a non-issue. The reason people use SD cards in the main is because either there isn't enough internal storage or the cost of getting a 128GB model is unjustifiable high.

Didn't mention anything about internal batteries...

6P definitely better than the Note 4. The only real competitor from Sammy to it would be the Note 5.

I've had all three: Note 4, Note 5 and 6P. Been a long time Note user (Note 2, 3, 4, 5), however, IMO the 6P is a much better phone compared with the Note 4. Against the Note 5, it's not that easy a decision, but the 6P would edge it still.

lol at thosw chaps who are hell bent on proving why this deal, or Note 4 rather, is cold. Sold mine on gumtree today for £250. Amazing how people think £360 is a good deal for one. I was asking £280 and the best price someone offered before £250 was £200. A lot of idiots on gumtree. I think in future I will keep phones for longer. So much hassle selling a phone for decent money these days unless your amazon.

11 Jan 16 1 #100
Gumtree/Ebay/Card in shop et al = possible dodgy purchase ending up with stolen / fake / faulty item with zero warranty and no come back.

Even at £360 it was possible to buy at £310 with the recent Nationwide cashback offers - as I did !

In fact I got a brand new sealed UK spec Note 4 for £300 because Amazon gave me a £10 credit for losing my Note 4 purchase of a few weeks ago. It has been third time lucky for me, because in November I tried to buy a Note 4 from Amazon Italy for £317 but they or someone substituted a Braun Ear Thermometer instead of the phone, which after the phone was refunded I was told I could keep.

I kept my trusty Nokia 6310i for 8 years before belatedly moving to smartphones a few years ago, and I'll probably keep this for as long as it holds out - since most manufacturers sooner or later will probably move to fixed batteries and memory which I refuse to accept.
