That is nonsense and snobbery. The local Aldi has the most gorgeous, colourful fruit and veg display Ive seen in a supermarket. They do HUGE bags of spinach that are so fresh and delicious and their pointy peppers are about half the price of anywhere else. I go through a lot of lemons and theres are double the size and last three times as long as the mushy, horrible, discoloured ones from Tesco or Asda. I've never been a fan of Lidl fruit and veg though.

Tesco guarantee the product you receive will have at least that many days shelf life left. Or something like that.

Nothing really to do with out of season though, since we don't grow our own mangos kiwi or clementines if you want the, they are always the air miles you mention. Sadly the seasons of fruit and veg are long gone in this country, stick it in a plane and we eat the tasteless fruit compared to what is eaten in the countries that produce them.

What fruit is in season in Britain at this time of year? Apples and maybe pears?
If i ate only what was in season in Scotland it would be quite miserable.

Well without it being shipped, you'd be living on the likes of apples and potatoes..

Anybody got the figures on carbon emissions bringing a mango here on a big ship? I can't imagine it's very much!

Have to agree. I don't even visit tesco nor asda ( specially the asda) anymore at all, all of their food is just of terrible quality, granted they also have good quality stuff but that costs just stupid money and is at least 2x cheaper at lidl/aldi.
Lidl for pretty much everything to me
Aldi mostly only for vegetables and some very specific stuff as mostly everything tastes a little bit better at lidl than in aldi except the vegetables.
Tesco/asda - Go F yourself.

If you enjoy manky, out of date, limpy fruit and veg, then aldi and lidl are the places for you lol
I can buy anything other than fruit/veg in lidl.
Aldi well I don't go there, horrid place!

I use Waitrose every day. Superb quality and surprisingly good value. Best cheese counter anywhere too.

Tesco oranges are rubbish, usually 1 or 2 good ones in the pack and the rest shrivel up to dry tasteless tat within a few days. Certainly the case with the smaller ones like clementines

Lidl don't put any dates on their produce so you have no idea how long its been on display on life left in the product.

Very little to shout about considering Tesco is probably the most expensive supermarket for just about everything supermarkets sell in this country.

Agreed. For example, kiwis are always about 60p in Aldi, and the same with clementines - they're 66p, I know, because I bought some yesterday and they're really nice!

I'm on a budget and have to do all my shopping online. I can tell you categorically that Sainsbury's are much more expensive than Tesco. It costs me around £60 for a Sainsbury's shop that would be probably high 40s with Tesco. Waitrose is just out the picture it's so much more expensive even than Sainsbury's. I'll give you that Asda is cheaper than Tesco, but their use by dates are absolutely dreadful and I've had so many bad experiences with their deliveries that I stick with Tesco who aren't perfect but are much better than Asda.
