Blurb taken from Laptops direct website. This is a cracking price for for the DVR alone plus with TWO 720p cameras. There are a number of places selling these Open Box versions but they come with 12 month warranty and are manufacture refurbished with new hard drives.
Post is £5 for standard delivery or £10 for rapid delivery and I think there is an extra price for 24 hour processing and delivery.
*** You can buy an extra two 720p cameras that are currently on offer for £34.97 (plus postage) making it a four 720p CCTV system for about £130.
The new wifi cameras suffer problems with dropped connections and I am not sure what impact they would have in upload speeds interfering with your basic internet use etc
Don't be fooled by the cheaper Floureon et al tack on Amazon. The camera quality has a high TVL but the quality is shocking, colours distort a bit like looking though a see-through Quality Street wrapper. Every one of the cheap ones I have had I have sent back, the quality was that bad it was easier to watch in black and white than colour. The grass in the garden used to flicker purple and green.

These are 720p cameras and the quality is really good have no issues with day or night mode. Don't get me wrong would be great for 1080p 60 fps but not aware of any reasonable priced cctv kits that do that!

I have seen these in operation, you are wrong in my opinion. Great brand, quality build and the ONLINE TECH people at swann will remote access your system and set the up. Really clever stuff.

Does it matter? It has been prepacked by Swann and includes 12 month warranty. Buy a new one for 299 from screwfix or three of these. The extra cameras for 35 + postage is a bargain. 75 quid at maplin

how do the cameras run power. is the whole system plugged in by wires etc? or is the hdd to the plug socket and the cameras wireless? if so how does charging work? excuse my ignorance but I am not a fan of more wires around my house. I have the ring video door bell and I love that as it's fully wireless. but I'd like footage 24 7 via mobile and not when a motion/ ring activation occurs. thanks in advance. heat from me anyway.

I bought the NVR version of these last year and ended up taking them back after about 3 weeks. One of the cameras wouldn't switch back from night mode and the backup from swan was pretty poor. I also found it near impossible to stop it recording non events even though I'd pretty much removed most of the image from the motion detect. Maybe an isolated case but didn't fill me with confidence hence why I went through the hassle of taking them all back down and returning.
matengawhat to chedixon
14 Jan 16#25
I actually have this setup and had no issues, I find the motion detection very good, I get normally about 10 mins of footage at night using motion detection. I get more if raining as have sensitivity turned up quite high at night. Using 2 cameras I get about a months worth of footage on the 500GB hard disk

14 Jan 161#26
No, just an honest description and price in the title would be sufficient.

14 Jan 16#27
I did wonder if the anologue kits were maybe better at the motion detect, the digital NVR I found quite pixelated at times and this seemed to send the motion detect nuts. I'd have like 40 1 minute recordings each day even though I'd turned of 60% of the image. Seems the cheaper DVR's are still the way to go then unless you're paying mega professional standard money

Hi. Can I ask which model of NVR you are referring to as I am in the marketing looking at the Swann CCTV Network NVR8-7285 8 Channel 1080p.
Cheers.
Thanks for your reply. It seems like the one you returned was the 720p version. I was looking at the 1080p version. But if you say it wasn't great I think i'll give it a miss. Thanks again because I needed help in making up my mind. Any advice on a 8 camera version for home use?

Defensive much! Common practice to mention if an item is refurbished etc in the title as surely more accuracy and clarity is a good thing?

14 Jan 16#33
No probs, glad to be of help .
I haven't bothered with another kit since the Swann package, I had it in my mind they were more of a premium brand for home use but the support service kinda tarnished that view. I guess the only thing I gained from the experience was that if I was to do it again I'd just buy a cheaper brand kit. I've read on forums that Hikvision camera were good and there was an import website where they were cheap but I cant for the life of me remember the site unfortunately.

Anyone know answers to these?
What format is the video recorded in?
Is there an option to also backup remotely via FTP? It's no good if the hard drive gets stolen
Is there a web interface to access the DVR or just a phone app? I need to access it from Linux

no option to backup IIRC
there's a phone app, no web interface on the dvr again from top of my head, family friend have the same model. it does the job better than the chinese models you get on amazon which do have web interface but very difficult to use.

Except France isn't a part of the UK or serviced by royal mail which charges the same to deliver here as it does the rest of the UK.
Agharta
14 Jan 16#41
Then seemingly they aren't using Royal Mail but other couriers that charge extra to deliver to other islands or remote parts of the mainland which I thought was common knowledge!

14 Jan 16#42
You can download Swann View Link to any computer and log in remotely to view camera, watch historical recordings, save images and videos
dar72
14 Jan 16#43
Seems like that only works on Windows or Mac
markeh
14 Jan 16#44
It is common knowledge, thanks for the condescension. Just like royal mail charging the same throughout the UK is well known. I ordered this so we'll see who they use.
Typically we don't get charged 3x the price of mainland delivery for relatively small items, which is why I mentioned it. You know.. being helpful.
