The Arete has all the features you look for in a warm winter jacket for casual use, but features a Pertex Microlight 30d outer fabric, and 260g (Large) 650 fill Hydrophobic European duck down so it will perform for hill and mountain use as well.
Zipped hand-warmer pockets and a fleece lined collar further add to the comfort of the jacket.
Down, cashmere and merino feel warmer when close to the skin.

I have this jacket, niggles, it has no interior pocket and be prepared for some down/feather loss. On the plus side it is warm but suprisingly for me it feels warmer with less layers on.

Just FYI down jackets are not supposed to be worn during heavy rain, they are generally not at all waterproof (unless Hydrophobic, on which the jury is still out), especially authentic down (vs synthetic).

Yes. They are technical outdoor jackets filled with down! I used mine fora walk to the shops last week and I was sweating on the way home...
