Excellent, welcome aboard. One piece of advice, you'll get something called a "spark of light" with this edition that basically makes the character of your choosing lvl 25. Don't use it on your first character (trust me, you'll create more) just level them up by playing the content. Use the spark of light on your 2nd or 3rd character, that way you skip some of the replaying content.

You might have a point there. The taken king was originally a DLC, but i suppose that would rarely just be on disc. I checked amazon and cant find a non-legendary edition on disc.

scouring bungie's site for support seems to show very little;

It's online only, so it will be as useful as a coaster till you get PSN.

For any newbies to Destiny, this is a pretty great deal - the game has improved a lot since version 1.0 which was pretty sparse and super grindy. It's still quite shallow with lots of repetition to pad out the content, but having a good group to play with can mask that reality. Unfortunately I'm still on the fence as someone who bought in on the first release and now the thought of having to pay again to access the content I already had access to prior to TTK (Iron banner/Strikes/Crucible playlists etc) is complete BS.

LOL I'm only a student who's just got off his 3 week Christmas holiday (most of which was spent playing Destiny :stuck_out_tongue:). My HUKD username is slightly different from my last post as I don't have a HUKD account - just love this game so much that I was inclined to leave a comment as a guest.

Anyway, I do recommend you give this game a shot. I myself thought it was garbage until I downloaded it off the PS store 3 weeks ago in the recent '12 deals of Christmas' (albeit slightly more expensive than this deal).

Supposedly this is everything that Destiny was supposed to be before they stripped it out and tried to sell it back as DLC. Been hearing very good things about it from people that liked the original but got bored of it, so this sound like a breath of fresh air. £20 too, what a bargain!

This is still 'first Destiny' just with all the DLC.
More of the same but I personally really enjoyed it. I've given up on the game since just before launch of Hard Raid as the grind became pointless for me and I don't have the time plus a huge pile of shame
seany1977

I bought it for this price from Simply Games before Christmas. I love the game. I rolled a Hunter and used the level 25 boost. After playing a while from level 25 I felt like I missed so much from the early game, even though I was playing early missions and you do get level relevant loot but there was no challenge. I've got to level 40 and have yet to do the Taken King content and the later content for the other DLCs.

I have now rolled a Titan and started from level 1 and I am enjoying it a lot more than when I boosted to 25. The Titan is a lot better for soloing and there is a greater challenge.

I got this from play just before Xmas and have had such fun on pvp and raids. The lv25 boost is very handy and you are entering dailys and strikes before you know it.

I got 3 codes in the box but only used one. All content unlocked and lv25 boost in character. Anyone else know what the other codes are for?
notoriouschucky to Stinkyfish
12 Jan 16 #140
I got 3 codes in the box as well, one is a 1 month trial of Playstation Plus, another is the 3 expansions (Exapnsion 1, 2 and Taken King) and the final code is for the early access weapons pack

If you are considering whether or not to buy Destiny, READ ON.

Clearly there are way too many people on here bashing Destiny for being too short or an easy ride. Firstly, yes it is relatively easy to reach the max level but believe me, that is when the real Destiny begins. By real I mean that the gear worth equipping becomes available, you can do strikes, nightfall's and raids (which are all incredibly fun and challenging especially with friends). The game was designed to max out your level quickly because it is not your level that matters but your light - a stat which is the average attack & defence of all your gear. When you head over to online multiplayer, 9 players out of 10 will be level 40 (the max level) but you'll barely meet anyone that complains over this cap. The armor and weapons are split up in to several different classes ranging from uncommon to exotic (the rarest class), but many have the impression the the aim is to 'catch them all'. I say that the aim is to find what works for you and gives you the most fun in PvP and PvE.

New bounties and strikes come out everyday, and every Tuesday brings a new nightfall and a stock refresh of all the vendors across the game. And of course, everyone's favorite - Xur - makes his appearance each Friday. Despite some of the recent comments, a raid CAN NOT be done in 30 minutes, especially with new players - that is ridiculous. Anyone who claims otherwise is either rushing through the raid, taking advantage of shortcuts/glitches etc. or at the very least, unrealistically expects new players to get (often difficult) things right the very first time, many times.

Anyway I have had this game for 3 weeks now and without realizing, it has easily replaced GTA V as my favorite online multiplayer. There is a lot to get used to but once you do, you will have tons of fun.

My nonsense?!

"You can do it all in half a day"

Laughable.

In the base game there are 23 known story missions, 8 unknown and 1 mission are the credits. For the strike there are 5 nightfall missions, 6 normal missions, 4 vanguard missions in the base game.

There are another 4 story missions, 2 strikes and a raid in The Dark Below.

Plus another 6 story missions, 2 strikes and Prison of Eldars end game in The House of Wolves.

There are another 8 story missions, 4 strikes and a raid in The Taken King.

So, 49 missions, 14 strikes, 3 Raids and Prison of Eldars in all, without including the Crucible and you can do them all in 12 hours? Absolute nonsense.
megaman666

Predxtreme
11 Jan 16 #131
Weeks or months? Forget this. Anyone can go to youtube and watch how long it takes to go through the missions, strikes and raids, nobody with intelligence is believing your nonsense. You can do it all in half a day, other than that is just repeating the same things for grinding.

11 Jan 16 #130
Yeah I'm getting there, I feel I'd probably enjoy it more multiplayer maybe! One of the mission people said to 'team up for the next mission' too which kinda made me feel like I probably have to.

megaman666
11 Jan 16 #129
Personally, I got through all 4 games solo, provided you take care to level up appropriately and hold on to decent gear this isn't hard. The end game is where youll benefit from having a fireteam, there are some things you simply cannot solo later on, regardless of level/gear
Youngsyr
11 Jan 16 1 #127
So you're defining teamwork as one member of the "team" sitting back and watching another member complete a task for them?

And in this case it's the game developer's fault that the person watching doesn't have more to do in the game?

Really, you can throw mud at me all you like, but your argument is completely illogical.

The fact is that it would take a new player to the game weeks, possibly months, to complete all the content, if they don't let other people do it all for them. The fact that it's possible to find out the answers to all the puzzles and best methods to complete all the tasks very quickly from those who have already spent weeks and months perfecting the techniques does not mean there is a lack of content.

11 Jan 16 #124
Do you know what a strawman argument is? Google it. The quick answer is you're wrong. Your argumentative skills are really poor. Your (hyperbolic) argument is basically because teamwork is used in a teamwork based game, it doesn't count as lacking content. Do go on.
Youngsyr
11 Jan 16 1 #123
So, you're saying that there's a lack of content because people who buy the game now can easily find someone who has already completed it all multiple times over the past year and a half and then let that person tell them exactly what to do, where to go, what equipment to use and when to do it and even step in and complete the puzzles, mazes, problems and most difficult tasks for them when the going gets tough (i.e. 90% of the time)?

That's an interesting argument.

I've started helping my son's account rank up, and I can assure you, if you try an lfg group for normal Kings Fall, there are a ton of people who don't know what to do.

I have 3 x 318+ characters, I've run hard raids more than I'd like to admit, and I can tell you now, running an ill equipped LFG group through normal is one of the toughest things in the game right now.
Predxtreme
10 Jan 16 #119
lol, people know how to do the raids now, using the first raid when nobody knew what to do is a poor example. Ain't no raid anymore where people don't know what to do. I've carried plenty of noobs through raids, all it takes is the ability to listen.

Poor defence of the lack of content, and telling people to grow up because they telling the truth is irony at its finest.

I picked up the base game in Novmber 2014. Yes there is some grinding - thee is no game I've ever played where this isn't true - but there's always something to do and if you actually engage in the community and play 6 player content there's nothing like it. Fair point.
I don't pvp, I don't enjoy it in any game. I tried it back when destiny came out and it was unbalanced. Heard now it's just shotgun teams most of the time.

Raids was something I wanted to try. Getting the gear up for that level has been a slight chore of repetitive gameplay. It's a shame there's no crafting in destiny. I don't mind farming areas for materials to make a piece of armor, something I can do when I'm bored.

Destiny on paper seems to be a washed down version of an mmorpg. It's a solid game, don't get me wrong. But there's a good amount of things missing. And the excitement or addiction to continue playing just didn't grasp me like other mmorpgs have.

It's not a bandwagon, is a straight up fact. You can get through all the content in half a day, aside from the content it's just grinding and weekly lockouts.

Weekly lockouts are only featured in games lacking content, is done to stretch what little content there is out, or else people would just get their guns and armour within a week or two.

Once reached max level whic doesn't take very long at all every Tuesday you log in in, do the lockout stuff, then nothing to do until next Tuesday aside from login to see what Xur is selling on Friday.

Do you not think it's a bit out of line to criticise the lack of content in a game when you haven't even played 3 of the biggest parts of it?!

Even if you're good, there's at least 12 hours of some of the best multiplayer content ever released that you haven't experienced. If you're average, several times that amount of play time.

Have you played Trials of Osiris? Iron Banner?

If you make the decision that you only want to play a multiplayer game with your friends and family and then your friends and family don't want to play it, that's hardly the game's fault.

Sounds to me like you're just jumping on the "lack of content" bandwagon.

homerj1977 to joerob1972

Single player, there's plenty to do, but this game really shines when you join others for raids especially.

I hadn't played an online game since Halo 2 really, and only gave this a chance because of Bungie's history. Not sure if it was fear, or just not interested, but didn't expect to play anything other than single player with this.

But once you use an LFG (looking for group) and chat to a few there, then realise just how good it can be, then you find a good clan and it explodes. My friends list is huge now, with most on Destiny at some point or another. From soldiers in Puerto Rico, Canadians, and mainly fellow dads from the UK and Ireland. I can't explain just how great the community is.

If you decide to buy this, check reddit subs like DestinyTheGame, DestinySherpas, Fireteams, and others. Use destinyLFG.net and the100.io. You honestly won't be disappointed.

Not touching anything Destiny related ever again. Bungie's forced DLC to make the game playable has put me off them for good. Spent a fortune on the original Destiny collector's edition AND season pass... and now that's worthless? Without The Taken King DLC, Destiny is now unplayable, they could have at least included this WITH the so called "Season Pass" or given it at a discount to Year 1 players, but nope... I had vanilla destiny and got bored, sold it and came back a couple of months ago to the Taken King.

You could conceivably play this game for hours daily and still feel like you want to play more. I find it very addictive.

Gearing up isn't hard, nor is levelling (once you finish the main quest chain you should easily be max level which takes 20 hours tops).

I now have max level of each class and currently can't decide which to make my main as all are hovering about 280 light and relatively equal gear!

But once you do hit max level you focus on gaining better gear and the lure of this better gear much like other MMOs is what keeps you playing.

I personally don't know anyone else who plays Destiny on my friends list and I haven't done any raids due to time constraints. I used to raid on Warcraft for hours several times a week and it seems much the same in terms of hours spent raiding if that's your thing.

What makes the game so good for me is the gunplay is spot-on. If feels great to control and the way it plays feels perfect.

Even as a solo and matchmaking player like I am, you'll get potentially hundreds of hours out of this game for very little cash these days.

Definitely recommend this version considering they have a ten year plan for the franchise and there's bound to be future sequels.

By far my most played game on the PS4. I'm sure it will be just as good on the One.

8 Jan 16 #54
this game any good or is it as bad and over rated as fallout4?
Poch to red23
8 Jan 16 #56
I enjoy both games for very different reasons. I wouldn't say either of the games are bad. Destiny is much better than it's initial release while Fallout 4 is one epic adventure, although perhaps overwhelming at first for a n00b.

I only joined destiny with 2 other players. Getting to the raid level isn't really a slow process. It's a tad luck with gear upgrade. One of us is sitting back at 245 ligh while me and my brother are in the 280+ area (that profile has a tester weapon and not my primary).

With match making not being available for raids, it's a slight disappointment. Since there's only 3 of us. My brother has burnt himself out playing the game every moment of each day. So he is against playing atm.

I'm a tad bored waiting on the luck of my friend to gear up and running the same areas for no uogrades has had its toll.

I'm not bashing the game. But even after a week or two playing the end game each night. it's starting to feel a chore and not seeing any new stuff is starting to show.

I'll still jump on the game every so often. But taking my chances of elder scrolls from the psn sale.

I'm not questioning your opinion, mine is no more valid than yours. I'm just intrigued to why you never raided? Or reached the level to raid. There are 3 raids in the game, and whilst the loot in Vault of Glass and Crota's End are no longer relevant, those raids are still extremely fun (particularly VoG, CE can be solo'd!) whilst King's Fall is also excellent.

Did the lack of matchmaking put you off? Cos it did for me for a long while, until I discovered the DoD clan, and honestly being part of a 6 man team in the raid is amazing.

I never played WoW, though I know there are a fair few ex players in Destiny.

Opinion of content still feels small, doesn't matter*
kos1c
8 Jan 16 #46
That is me.
What content is there in the game that isn't listed.
1-2 raids
4-6 strikes
4 or so heroic strikes
Daily heroic mission
patrols
crucible (ranks, 3v3, 6v6)
racing event that just finished
Bounties

I've been playing for a few weeks and repeated the same strikes, the same bounties, part of the gun Smith quests, heroic dailies with the bugs and all.

The game felt small compared to say world of warcraft. Because I'm not 320 light level, doesn't mean my opinion of content still feels small.

Put 1800hrs into the game, haven't played in over three months. It isn't what it should have been.
homerj1977 to ricardofischer

You put 1800hrs into it. It certainly has flaws, but even if you bought each individual DLC seperately, you got some serious value from it.

8 Jan 16 #40
Bought this during the digital sale on psn during December. The game is solid, but content runs out fast. I was planning on a long time spent leveling up. Was shocked it only took a few days to go from level 1 to end game.

The whole buying a boost to level 25 is unneeded it seems.

End game content, with gearing up feels small. Run strikes, do the heroic missions, pvp and work towards the heroic strikes then raids.

After a month, the games going onto the back burner.
homerj1977 to kos1c

nope. no announcements yet that I'm aware of. their plan for year 2 was that we'd get lots of 'free events' such as the festival of the lost at Halloween, sparrow racing and iron banner plus some random quests for new exotics weapons like sleeper simulant, no time to explain' and black spindle. they'd make money from the mugs who buy in game 'silver' to buy cosmetic stuff from Tess in the tower

8 Jan 16 4 #29
Excellent, welcome aboard. One piece of advice, you'll get something called a "spark of light" with this edition that basically makes the character of your choosing lvl 25. Don't use it on your first character (trust me, you'll create more) just level them up by playing the content. Use the spark of light on your 2nd or 3rd character, that way you skip some of the replaying content.

Is this game worth getting? I wasn't particularly a fan of the halo games and I'm pretty terrible at online fps games. I do like good online Co op when people actually want to play as a team though.
homerj1977 to mrcheeze
8 Jan 16 2 #27
Is it worth getting? That's subjective, but the amount of content in the Legendary Edition would make it a massive yes from me.

The online co-op is this games biggest strengths, the raids in particular are some of the best gaming content I've ever played. I've been playing it now since Beta testing, and it's still the only game I really play.

The downside is finding a raid team. There's nothing built in game to find players for the end game content sadly, though there is matchmaking for a lot of other stuff. There's a whole lot of places to find people to play with like the Bungie website/app, destinylfg.net, reddit fireteams, the100.io etc, but if you can find a clan you'll generally be set. I'm part of Dads of Destiny for X1, and the support system in there is excellent.

Logged in again last night for my freebie strange coins etc, after not playing for a couple of months.

Thought I'd have a go at one of the House of Wolves missions that I'd got to before just to have another look.

I'd forgotton what a blast Destiny is! Great combat and great fun, ended up spending two hours in it before bedtime.

This is a cracking deal for £20.
