I bought the 9920 on black friday for £49.99 from tesco direct - used it yesterday for the first time with 1/2 tb spoon of oil and even with the kitchen extractor fan on - It stank the kitchen out - quite disappointed really !

try using fry light. Also if you are using bought oven chips, these are coated with oil anyway and don't need the extra oil.
Not tried oil myself though, nicer chips than actifry, but not as lazy

Must be doing something wrong. I've cooked fresh and frozen chips, wedges Kievs, nuggets, frozen party foods, goujons and loads of veg and can't knock it, a lot of experimenting with times.
Frozen French fries the best so far though!!

You're meant to coat the food in oil before you put it in, not pour the oil in the fryer like some of the other air fryers.

We have one and it can do enough chips for the four of us.
I find it very useful for heating up pre cooked sausage rolls/pies etc. - Much better than the microwave and it uses less energy than having the main oven on.

We have both and prefer the air fryer by miles for our needs. Doesn't mash up the chips and better with hash browns.

I keep seeing these coming up on here but I'm trying hard to resist. I can't see the benefit of it over my gas oven. Plus I've got a combination fan assisted microwave/oven. Is there any point in me getting one of these? I'm a kitchen gadget freak that has most things. :laughing::laughing::laughing:

Thanks for your reply. My only other question is that does this cook food distinct from an oven? I have a Halogen oven which is great for baking chips and meats but doesnt give the 'fried' taste or retain the moisture of a fryer. I just dont want to buy a device that is the same as the one I already have.

I don't have a Halogen type cooker but I believe the Airfryer gives a better , more 'fried' result from what I have heard but may not be enough to warrant another kitchen device though. Oven chips certainly turn out better than they used to in my fan oven.
I was looking at these for about 18 months before I finally caved in but i am glad I did.

The kids bought us one for xmas.. Said bought on offer at £49..
Have to say it's great for frozen items like fries, chips, nuggets, hash browns etc.. No need to add anything and food no longer soaked in oil !!
Wife tried fresh cut chips with a tiny amount of oil. Did them ok but she said it seemed to take a lot longer..

I bought one in the Black Friday event too and must say I use it pretty much everyday. I've even used it to make toasties! You really do only need a touch of oil (I brush mine on v lightly).

Awesome bit of kit. One of the only ways of keeping food moist and juicy without using oil. Have never added oil. Why would you especially with oven chips etc.
Whoever I have recommended this to have bought it and loved it since. My mate bought this full price at 149.99 and absolutely loves it.
Won't tell him about this deal.

got the manual timer one in the black Friday deal.
I use ours most days. bought a sainsbury curry tonight meal went in the microwave and the indian snacks went in the oven.Gives better results than the normal oven. food is crispier.
Hash browns need twice the recommended time in the normal oven to give good results but this does it in half with better results. have also used it for cheese on toast as the bread/toast comes out nice and crispy.(although the cheese can fly off).
so far 2 of the family are looking for it after they've tasted the results. i think they were converted when on boxing day the party garlic bread came out soft and not crispy. after 5 minutes in the Philips they were lovely and crispy and ready to go. I also pop my croissants and scones for 5 minutes so they taste more freshly baked.
highly recommended and a actually useful item if you like cooking.
just want to add I think i like the manual control one over this as you can change the setting as you cook. this digital touch over complicates it i would have thought.

You can use oil but this is added to the raw cut potatoes. oven ready chips dont need it.
It could also be the machine has to burn of some stuff on first use. Mine has never made a smell

We use ours daily - love it - just separate the the section you put the food into and stick it in the dishwasher - couldn't be easier to keep clean! My other half is veggie and it does his tofu perfectly he says (and in a fraction of the time it takes to do it in the oven).

These are fantasia. had one for 4 years. used nearly every day for one thing or another (like a mini oven) mine is the manual version and has been very reliable. I had a tefal befre and it was pants as the turning paddle broke. Great deal :-)

Purchased this last week & used it at weekend.
Tested it on some frozen sausages,,, nicely done & not dark brown colour like you get when frying,, also tested on some frozen oven chips & have to say that it's so crispy compared to previously when I used to stick them in oven.
Very worthwhile purchase as it gets rid of the fatty and greasy bits in food.
