Only 25p a bottle more at Aldi and no need to buy 12 . Much prefer the crafty hen 4 for £6 at tesco , spend another 50p a bottle a get a far stronger far better ale . All subjective of course

Commendable behaviour but i'm much too weak. My downfall is that I'll never refuse a free beer. However when i do have to dig into my pockets, I do like proper ales and i'd rank Old Speckled Hen as mid-table. Perfectly ok but nothing particularly distinctive. But at a £1 a bottle you can't go wrong.

Don't suppose they've got old golden hen on offer have they?
It's a good deal on a popular and largely well regarded product.
Not everyone likes ale in general, of specific ales in isolation, but then some can't stand fizzy lager either - I'd genuinely drink water in preference to Budweiser or Heineken or whatever at a free bar (and did a few weeks back!)
But that wouldn't cause me to criticise a good deal on that as I know others do buy and enjoy it. It'd still be a good deal, I'd vote it hot and be quiet about their lack of taste
