Although I'm sure this is relatively cheap, why not just go for this instead?
Cheaper, and you get two. No more trailing cables, just swap the battery pack over when depleted. I've been very happy with mine for the last 12 months.

I agree, Our 2450 Duracell rechargeable batteries last 5-7 days at a time with a 14 year old who is constantly glued currently to black ops 3  Well worth getting rechargeable's

Mine are a different design to these, much flatter.
I play about 10 hours per week, and they normally last for about a week. As soon as they die I swap them over. Loads quicker then reloading with new batteries, and takes me about 15 seconds.
The supplied cable is about 8 feet long, and will charge two battery sets at a time if you wish. I've got mine plugged into a rear sub port on my Xbone, and it seems to charge the batteries whether it's switched or not.
Perfect set up, and no need to replace my aging rechargeable AA batteries.

I have normal rechargeable batteries (2900mah) and I charge them with a battery charger. They last me a few weeks before needing to recharge/swap.

All these pre charged ones are good like that. I have some uniross precharged ones that are over 5 years old and still working well
Apparently eneloop batteries are best rechargeable, they leak a lot less power over time apparently.

As an additional bit of info, you would also use the USB cable to connect to the laptop if streaming Xbone games in Windows 10. A great feature, especially when the wife is watching Kardashian in the living room!

Batteries seem to last well on these, unfortunately the cables do not I'm now on my 3rd set within 12 months as the cable keeps failing.

Does it make a difference when plugged into the side USB ports of the XB1 ?
Only reason I ask is the battery never lasted more than a few hours.
Now sold my XB1 so never got round to trying the back ports of the console.

What's the battery life like? I generally prefer to go official as tend to be more reliable (plus they look a little bit nasty!)

It sure does. It's just a very long USB to Micro USB cable.
Has the added bonus of a charging light that goes white when the controller is charged.
