I think this works alright for John Lewis since they have lots of high priced items but for Tesco Direct I don't believe it will help them as they have a lot more items priced under £30 and expect them not to sell well. Also I feel that most Tesco customers are driven on price more than anything else and this goes against their motto "Every little helps". This clearly helps Tesco more than the customers.

Don't think anyone disputes that. But they will lose out on a lot of orders from me personally like JL has as 90% of the time I'm not spending £30+. I'm sure I'm not the only 1.
Good point about opening up your order and returning it there and then and keeping what you want to bypass the £2 but half the old folk at my local seem challenged to process a C&C order never mind returning/refunding so it's just a hassle. Shop elsewhere is the alternative.

I think as click and collect has phased in in most place over last few years the companies are realising the cost of offering the service. items dont just appear instore and your orders dont get processed by magic, there is cost involved at warehouse level and pushing these to individual stores. You will pay one way or another.

In terms of tesco charging for store delivery it is no different from amazon's 20 pound charge. If the goods are still cheaper or I can make the order up to the value of 30 pounds I will still order. I think the biggest difference when Amazon started was I stopped buying one off cheaper items like DVD's, Blue Ray it became cheaper by the time you include delivery to buy them on the high street.
